So sad about Amanda. I thought her last dance was beautiful. Very old-style Strictly.

I will miss her. I hope she is OK and has good support.

OutOfSyncWithReality · 23/10/2023 22:58

Shame about Amanda. She threatened to quit before the show started iirc so this isn't a huge surprise. I just hope it isn't for spurious reasons.

MouseMinge · 23/10/2023 23:02

I have a feeling that it may well have been for spurious reasons. When TRAs go after women they really go after them. I'm a bit gutted because I loved watching her dance, thought her and Gio were a great partnership and very much saw them in the final.

Aquarius1234 · 23/10/2023 23:08

I thought it was people that didn't like her that were threatening to boycott strictly.
Interesting.

Ellmau · 24/10/2023 00:24

What a shame, she was one of the better dancers this year and had a great chance of making the final.

And it presumably means only three in the final.

Who are you? The thought police? Are you the arbiter of what is “outspoken” “venomous” and “anti vaxx“? It’s up to her what she says online, and you have the same freedom. Or post your examples…

Judge her on her dancing, not her thoughts.

It's quite difficult to post what she deleted but she certainly was posting misinformation about vaccines and some stuff policing Madonna's views, ironically. It does cut both ways.

She deleted her Twitter some time ago.

I was judging her on her dancing which was good. I didn't find it especially entertaining.

You seem to be thought policing me! I am also allowed to have views and have been on Strictly threads for years, perfectly peacefully.

We don't know why she has left. I expect she has long running struggles. Maybe we'll find out but this is all speculation.

Angrycat2768 · 24/10/2023 07:19

Piggywaspushed · 23/10/2023 20:47

I'm not bothered either way but some of what Amanda had put on Twitter was more outspoken, and venomous, than has been suggested.

She is also something of an anti vaxxer.

Generally, I found her a bit luvvie. She wasn't for me.

I didn't think much of her because of the tax affairs bankruptcy business. But she was entertaining on Strictly. She was doing her job though, and if she's been bullied out of it, we'll that's par for the course.

MyCircumference · 24/10/2023 07:44

yes, i wasnt a fan of her based on her twitter, but she changed my mind on strictly, she was great

EvilRingahBitch · 24/10/2023 07:49

Interestingly Annabel also had to give her Twitter feed a major spring clean before doing Strictly (slight Laurence Fox sympathies). If she makes it a long way into the competition then I suspect a tabloid may decide to do an exposé, that's usually the way.

Piggywaspushed · 24/10/2023 08:07

Yes, she has some very odd views, as does Henman. Maybe it's being a superfit type? Or perhaps it's tennis!

tennissquare · 23/10/2023 21:20

They need to sort out the quality of ITT presenters, Fleur was dire this evening and I dont think Janette would have been much better. I can see a new team being installed next year if they want to keep any viewers.

Agree. It’s unwatchable.

Hambleshamble · 24/10/2023 08:32

I like Fleur and Janette, just think ITT needs more regular features and audience engagement. Bring back the studio audience ?

Tennis does attract the more privileged, and so possibly the more right-wing? (Although I don’t know what any of Annabel or Tim He’s views are).

EvilRingahBitch · 24/10/2023 08:40

Don't forget Djokovic who has a wide range of interesting views.

pickledandpuzzled · 24/10/2023 08:56

DH is interested in statistics and media, and watches the voting but not the dancing 🙄
He reckons Strictly is very vulnerable to public opinion and backlash, that contestants are horrifically exposed and vulnerable. A scandal waiting to happen, apparently.

He’s a shocking pessimist though. It’s not how I view any of it at all!

Lentilweaver · 24/10/2023 09:00

I am really angry about this today. I don't care what her views are really, or whether she was a nice person. I just enjoyed her dancing. The "nice" people bore me senseless.

I am on Twitter and her tweets were taken out of context, IMHO. But it doesnt matter. She is entitled to her views. Her AT would have been great. And I will also miss Gio, my favourite pro, who has now gone early two years in a row. Would not be surprised if this is his last year.

Very few (if any) ppl on this thread post about the dancing and nothing else.

Mean, non-dancing things have been said about a lot of the contestants over the years.

Will Young got terrible backlash after he stepped down for MH reasons apparently.

Layton's getting some nasty trolling as you might imagine: he seems to have been well prepared for it and went in with his eyes open in the belief that the benefits outweighed the downside but that doesn't make it OK at all.

Alexandra got abuse because she dared to be emotional about the recent death of her mother.

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 24/10/2023 09:48

I do think "free votes for all" and making such a big thing of it maybe doesn't help.

When people had to phone up to vote and actually spend money I doubt many people not watching voted. And without the same social media people who didn't watch weren't as invested.

Mind you, I also think there's a veneer of acting and sickly sweetness from some of the celebs that wasn't there years ago. In the past I felt you learned quite a lot about all the celebs as a people, now it feels like a lot of them have a decided image they stick with.

Lentilweaver · 24/10/2023 09:52

I think the slebs are forced to act sickly sweet and keep weeping because otherwise many of them are relentlessly trolled for being "arrogant", " overconfident" "smug" and so on. Especially the confident women, because the worst thing a woman can do is be confident.

The public only seems to accept sugary personalities with some occasional exceptions, but then of course it's a personality contest.

Samcro · 24/10/2023 10:01

such a shame about Amanda leaving

Bill Bailey I felt was his authentic self.

pickledandpuzzled · 24/10/2023 10:20

See I wasn’t keen on him- but to be fair I don’t watch the blurb bits, so only get a sense of people from their dance and their bit with judges and Claudia.

I’ve been impressed by Layton. I had a different impression of him

OrangesLemonsLimes · 24/10/2023 10:33

I thought that Layton would be arrogant but he hasn’t been.

I thought that Bobby would be silly, and unwilling to take it seriously. Again - wrong!

Thankfully we have the wonderful Andy Murray who is a vocal feminist ally. There definitely are some players whose views are best not inspected too closely if you want to continue enjoying their play.
