I didn’t know it was on so didn’t watch it but I remember watching it in the cinema when it was released. (We had all read all the books and loved them) when the film finish, some bloke stood up and said it was rubbish. I was disproportionately annoyed and I’ve never forgotten it. He obviously thought it was a horror film, he just didn’t get it! I always wished they had made the rest of the books.

MadamVastra · 13/10/2023 00:04

Love love loved it!!

I read the books yonks ago and also loved them. I feel a binge coming

duc748 · 13/10/2023 00:16

Ha! Interview With The Vampire remains only one of two films that I've walked out of at the cinema! 😁

Itsrainingshessnoring · 13/10/2023 07:28

This is the new TV series.

I'm really liking the modern twist on it

I'll be watching later,

I hope they actually explore the homoeroticness of it in the series!

35965a · 13/10/2023 07:35

I’ve recorded it, looking forward to watching it soon

NooNakedJacuzziness · 13/10/2023 07:38

I didn't like it. Thought the two leads were very uncharismatic. Lestat was just creepy. I loved the film though so maybe I'm unfairly comparing.

Nitgel · 13/10/2023 07:39

I gave up, seemed quite daft

NooNakedJacuzziness · 13/10/2023 07:39

@wiseoldtree - they definitely did Grin

LunaLoveFood · 13/10/2023 07:46

I've not watches the film or read the books and loved the TV series. Now thinking ill add the books to my read next list!

Loubelle70 · 13/10/2023 07:50

Its on my list to watch. Loved the film.. hope this series is good...the bbc dracula series was shocking...but i also love coppolas dracula film. Same as what we do in the shadows, film amazing..series really bad

AnaBeaverhausen · 13/10/2023 07:55

This is the new TV series.

I am sleepwalking through life! 😂 I had no clue they were doing one. I will see if I can squeeze it in to watch.

Itsrainingshessnoring · 13/10/2023 08:42

I think you have to just forget the film and watch the TV series with fresh eyes.

Do agree @NooNakedJacuzziness Lestat is creepy.

Just watched on catch up. For the BBC- wow !

Ginmonkeyagain · 13/10/2023 13:20

It was interesting.

The guy who plays Lestat isn't great. His "French" accent is a bit shaky and it was hard understand his at times.

idrinkandiknowthings · 13/10/2023 13:22

I watched the first ep last night. It was difficult at first to separate from the film, but I enjoyed it. I think!

I don't know why, but Lestat reminded me of Robert Webb lol. It's good that he had a French accent though. Beautiful filming too, I'll stick with it.

Ginmonkeyagain · 13/10/2023 13:26

The new Louis back stroy didn't quite work. It was good to make him a black man, the lack of non whote characters was a failing of the original stories given New Orleans is so racially mixed. However I couldn't quite get the background. The impression given was of family wealth and status and there were references to his father's sugar cane fortune being lost. I assumed the dead father was white and when he died his black/bi racial family lost status?

Moving the meeting of Louis and Lestat to the early twentieth century was a bit odd, surely the idea of Lestat just turning up in New Orelans and lording it around made more sense for an eighteen century setting? Less so in 1910.

idrinkandiknowthings · 13/10/2023 13:55

@Ginmonkeyagain

Agree on the making of Louis black, although the actor did have nuances of Brad Pitt's "whining" Louis in his voice at times.

Aren't the family wealthy because of Louis' brothel-keeping? I guess the producers brought the timeline forward so it's completely different to the film, otherwise there'd be all sorts of comparisons. Looking forward to seeing Claudia - I believe she's a teenager rather than a kid.

Totally disagree! WWDITS tv show is amazing

I enjoyed the first episode, but I’m not sure about bringing Louis becoming a vampire (was going to say making, but that’s Buffy/True Blood isn’t it) into the 20th century. Isn’t half of his angst about the futility of centuries of never changing? He hasn’t had time!

That’s what makes the films “Oh Louis, Louis. Still WHINING, Louis. Have you heard enough? I've had to listen to that for centuries” so funny.

IWTV is one of my favourite Tom Cruise movies. Lestat is such a dick and Louis is such a whinger.

I enjoyed the first episode but the actors have big shoes to fill with these characters. Maybe that’s why they’ve changed the back story and timeline?

RaininSummer · 13/10/2023 18:54

Started watching but the main characters seem lacking in charisma so far.

IsadoraQuagmire · 13/10/2023 22:19

I watched most of the first episode earlier and won't bother with any more. I hated all the casting, and all the deviations from the books, absolutely awful. I don't like the film either, I just love all the books (and everything else Anne Rice wrote)

QueenOfThorns · 13/10/2023 22:42

I’m still not sure after the first episode, but I’m trying not to mind too much about the changes they’ve made and just go with it. I think the Lestat is better than Tom Cruise, but as a PP said - is that supposed to be a French accent? It is all very lovely to look at, though!
