Anyone watch it on BBC tonight??

Looking forward! Glad in a way Claudia will be a teen rather than little girl due to the content. It would be hard for a child to be protected acting as a lover to an adult. I remember Kirsten Dunst saying how uncomfortable she was as a little girl kissing Brad Pitt 🙁

GiveMeCakeOrGiveMeDeath · 14/10/2023 04:55

I've been waiting for this! Thanks for the heads up

Pemba · 14/10/2023 05:05

Just saw this thread and thanks for the heads up, as I had vaguely seen it on the BBC listings, but just assumed it was a re-showing of the film (which I loved, as I did the book).

The new take will be interesting, but I wonder why they had to mess with the story? I assume the script was approved by Anne Rice as she died only fairly recently?

Totally disagree! WWDITS tv show is amazing

I agree, loved the film and the TV show is equally funny, with brilliant characters that didn't appear in the film. My favourite (just) is Nandor, with the hilariously mannered way he speaks. Now on its fifth series I believe.

JamSandle · 14/10/2023 06:51

For me there's no chemistry between the cast and too many deviations. It just doesn't work which is unfortunate as I loved the book series.

DeadButDelicious · 14/10/2023 06:57

I had a lazy day yesterday and binged the whole thing on iPlayer, I really enjoyed it. Looking forward to season 2.

Itsrainingshessnoring · 14/10/2023 07:45

I'm on episode 3 now and really enjoying it.

Thank you for starting this thread.

I thought it was going to be about the film and didn't realise that a TV series has been made.

Not many people I recognise in the cast, but Louis is played by Jacob Anderson who aged Grey Worm in Game of Thrones.

I'll have to check it out myself, but seems very mixed here.

marketing101 · 14/10/2023 09:09

I'm really enjoying first episode! I was never keen on Tom Cruise to be honest!

RichardArmitagesWife · 14/10/2023 09:12

The film was ruddy awful, the casting deranged compared to the characters in the books.

I’ll give the series a go.

If you thought the film casting was deranged, I don't expect you'll think any better of this! Lestat too old, nowhere near handsome enough, not remotely blond enough, no charisma. The less said about the others the better.
Why cant they just make a show about some new vampires instead of desecrating the ones that are so loved by millions of readers!

8misskitty8 · 14/10/2023 21:05

I love the movie. Despite the huge changes. Antonio Banderas was the best change !

Anne rice was a producer before she died so will have had much more input to the series than she did in the film version. So any changes from the book she will have been consulted on and approved.

I know Claudia has been aged up even more than she was in the film compared to the book. Which I think is a good thing.
I do like how they have shown the attraction between lestat and Louis more openly than in the film.
The 2 actors playing the leads are very good.
Setting it in 1910 is too recent , it should be much earlier as louis is supposed to be brooding and depressed for a long time before he first meets Daniel.

It will be interesting to see how they do armand. Will they stick to the book and have him young and a Russian redhead or will they change him to be like the film version ?

decionsdecisions62 · 14/10/2023 21:15

Thought Brad Pitt was a poor choice for the film. Prefer this one. The books were so badly written. It's a shame Anne Rice couldnt have just given her ideas to someone who could actually write. Anyway enjoyed the first episode.

Jennalong · 15/10/2023 14:14

I've watched them all and really enjoyed it. Looking forward to series two.

capabilityfrowns · 21/10/2023 20:56

I'm just set him gone series on iplayer and really enjoying it ..... the electricity between them is very sexy !

CampervanKween · 21/10/2023 21:47

Found it sadly pretty dull. So bored of the queering of everything and changing of stories. So predictable 🙄

I am another who loves the TV series of WWDITS and a huge fan of all the cast. Nandor is fabulous and glad they've introduced a female vampire too. Nadia I love.

Big fan of vampire literature in general. Am re reading all the True Blood books atm. Wish there was somewhere I could watch them again as huge fan of many of the male leads in that series.

Pemba · 21/10/2023 22:56

@CampervanKween True Blood is still available on Sky and on Now (streaming service) if you have it. You can subscribe to Now month by month, you're not tied in like with Sky.

foxlover47 · 22/10/2023 22:59

I just finished it
I read that the actress who played Claudia couldn't commit to series 2 so that role has been recast

Deadringer · 23/10/2023 23:42

I have just watched the first couple of episodes and not loving it so far. The two male leads are not very convincing, there is zero chemistry between them, and it's a bit dull. I am a big fan of Anne Rice but this doesn't seem true to the books at all. Shame.

Pieceofpurplesky · 23/10/2023 23:51

I loved it. Great fun but then I never enjoyed Tom Cruise or Brad Pitt in the roles

cassiatwenty · 23/10/2023 23:54

LOL this, oh no

SooticaTheWitchesCat · 25/10/2023 18:47

I hated it.
I loved the books and thought the film was good. But this was just too much change.

I won’t be watching more.
it’s a shame because I was really looking forward to it.

Pieceofpurplesky · 28/10/2023 03:27

I think what I mean @cassiatwenty is that the film characters didn't sit with my imaginings of the books characters - you know how we build that image! And the TV show is removed from the books and I am enjoying its opulence, the relationship between Lestat and Louis (which was missing from the films) and cruelty of the racism that builds - the underhand dealings etc.

I liked the film but find this a bit slow

I've only watched a couple of episodes so May go back to it...

Stressybetty · 29/10/2023 08:20

Found this yesterday and watched the first episode with DH. We really enjoyed it but I've not read the book and also managed to avoid seeing the film. Think that helped! We had to watch with subtitles on, the sound on iPlayer was rubbish.
