Do people notice the little details that goes on in the background? Obvious one from the last show was the blonde behind Craig looking bored and biting her nails.

Another one was Nancy clapping like a hyperactive seal after Carlos and Angela's scores were read out, and still clapping and trying to catch their eye in the Clauditorium.

Unfortunately, I think sending him to private school with a thick Essex accent and being the child of Jade Goody was a mistake, poor lad.

I didn’t know he was her son but I’d never heard of him, (or half the other contestants) before this series of Strictly.

My daughter had me rewind to see Nancys clapping 😂

What's a private school accent, do you mean posh? Amy childs from TOWIE went to a private school she still sounds Essex.

You're right. A lot of the TOWIE people went to private school. They're very aspirational. My boys went to private school and don't have an Etonian type accent.

BaconAndAvocado · 10/10/2023 07:26

Me and DD definitely take note of things in the background.

There was always the same woman sitting behind Tess each week who was the spitting image of a family friend.
"There's Sarah again," we'd chortle.

We chortle no more as DD15 is no longer a Strictly fan 💔

Bluffinwithmymuffin · 10/10/2023 07:31

@BaconAndAvocado
I feel your pain. In the early days of Strictly my three were still at home/too young to go out, and we watched it together. They loved it. Not anymore. It's just me, and not even the dog (rip Pearl) just me, talking to the screen and following the thread 🥹

TalkedTooMuchStayedTooLong · 10/10/2023 07:45

Yup... usually a lonesome watcher here... one of my DDs still enjoys it occasionally but her social life takes priority obvs!

I do have a friend who moved away who loves the show so we watch "together" hundreds of miles apart and text back and forth, and I follow the thread so it doesn't feel lonely ( also I'm an unsociable cow at the best of times so do enjoy my own company...)

BaconAndAvocado · 10/10/2023 07:45

Bluffinwithmymuffin
It's lonely being a Strictly fan here...

But I do have a couple of WhatsApp groups that go nuts during the shows.

When DH watches, all he has to offer are phrases like :

"Well of course he/she is good, they obviously went to stage school."

"Not yet another sob story to get votes."

"How long is this on for?"

Mrsjayy · 10/10/2023 08:07

My Dh hates strictly he can't stand the noise apparently all that "whooping and screaming " is unnecessary! Mr jayy the fun sponge 😂 I still message 1 of my dds back and forward about it and she might come here for the final but I mainly watch it alone.

EvilRingahBitch · 10/10/2023 08:11

I do see his point MrsJayy. I sometimes subject my closest relatives to it if we're visiting each other on Final day and seeing it through their eyes and ears I do get how deliberately intense the noise is. I tend to mute it with subtitles and we just turn the sound on for the dances.

SoIinvictus · 10/10/2023 08:11

You are my Strictly family. ❤️😂

I still have the annuals, the boxed sets and videos of DD standing on the table copying the "ladies in the pretty dresses" (and we went to see Erin and Anton's show at the Royal Albert hall one Christmas) but these days, she's in one country, I'm in another and while I'm watching in my pyjamas she's getting ready to go clubbing.

Dp is incredulous I watch it. (tbf, the Italian version, which is the "with the stars" franchise is shockingly bad. It's more Big Brother in tone than Brucie and he thinks SCD is the same)

LaMarschallin · 10/10/2023 08:13

I used to go round and watch it with my next door neighbour before she died a couple of years ago; really enhanced the experience for both of us and, of course, we had to do a Claudia and Tess "Keeeep dancing!" move before I came home.
Mr LaMar sweetly tries to take an interest but it's obvious that he finds it as fascinating as I find rugby.
I follow along here and also discuss it with my DD, but she often watches it later so it's not a contemporaneous chat.

Mrsjayy · 10/10/2023 08:21

Saying that he was saying that Angela S seemed to be giving someone dirty looks so he is watching 😂

The Italian with the stars sounds scandalous !

EvilRingahBitch · 10/10/2023 08:22

DH doesn't give a toss about the dancing but I fill him in on the narrative about Leyton Von Ringer, Pissy Gorka, and the GBP's insatiable fondness for Nice Young Men and Dead Normal Girls Next Door, very much in the same way that he gives me thirty second character summaries of the various protagonists in the Premier League so I can appreciate the plot significance of the scores.

gingercat02 · 10/10/2023 08:23

DS is 15 and long done with Strictly, when he was little he used to dance along in his jammies.🤣
I often watch on Sunday morning. Otherwise, everyone moans and disappears upstairs 🥲

HeadAgainstWall0923 · 10/10/2023 08:26

I have two boys who are 6 and 9 and they both love it.

We all watch it together on Saturday nights and we have pizza and our favourite snacks to make a night of it ❤️ They love guessing what scores the dances will get.

A couple of years ago my 9 year old (who had just turned 8 at the time) came with me to watch SCD Live in Nottingham and we had a great day! I took him out of the school for the day under the guise of “He won’t be in school today as he’s got a headache” and we went off and had a fab time!

My husband thinks we are mad!

SoIinvictus · 10/10/2023 08:29

I tried Dp with "Giovanni Pernice is in it! Graziano Di Prima is in it"

Nope.

I leave him with his Netflix drug baron series.

Mrsjayy · 10/10/2023 08:36

Would Vito not tempt him @SoIinvictus

Aquarius1234 · 09/10/2023 19:09

Bit of gossip about Bobby, he was asked to leave his school in year 11 before being expelled.
And his Dad was often out so he had to go round other kids parents houses growing up. Wasn't encouraged to try hard at school.

It’s quite common for private schools near me (and Bobby) to ask students to leave before they take their exams so as not to impact school results.

User0000009 · 10/10/2023 09:09

My DH will say “you haven’t paused that for me have you?”(ie got zero interest) Philistine

Lentilweaver · 10/10/2023 09:29

I watch alone. DH will sometimes watch one or two dances if there are lifts, but then he annoys me by asking, year after year:
What's a ringer?
Who is the professional ( even when painfully obvious)?
How long does this go on for?

DC are deeply uninterested.

Mrsjayy · 10/10/2023 09:34

Dh says who's the celebrity I don't know who that is ! I usually say I think Daniel day lewis was busy so they got this Telly presenter instead🙄

ellebelli · 10/10/2023 09:39

We record and watch with crisps and wine(much needed last week) once the kids are in bed.
OH likes it even if it is just for the female dancers!
He calls tess, tessbot(hes well versed in all the mumsnet nicknames)
I really did not enjoy movie week and felt like Amanda's daughter throughout, first time I have been bored watching.
Horrible distracting costumes and rubbish music.

Daniel Day Lewis on Strictly would be quite something, wouldn't it Grin

BTW I see a couple of comments about this week's dances up the thread – is the list of dances out?

The master of this was the much-missed Strictly blogger Mighty Mighty Monkseal. He used to post screenshots of tiny but telling moments where people were looking bored/doing a side-eye etc. I remember one of Claudia while a couple were dancing, sitting on a sofa at the back of the Clauditorium on her phone Grin Presumably she was about to get up and interview them and do the usual 'We were all screaming for you!' schtick.
