I’ve just watched the first two episodes and it is of course going to take a couple of episodes, because everything’s changed.

But I enjoyed it and will keep watching.

And I think it does work without Nile’s and Daphne because Niles’ son is in it (who is very similar to him) and the plot line is entirely different.

I think this can work. It’s a reboot, not a continuation.

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 13/10/2023 08:32

I will give it a go. A quick Google confirms it's Paramount+ not Apple.

OutragiousDemandsAtWork · 13/10/2023 08:56

It’s an odd one, basically you can access it through apple but can add a paramount plus subscription to your Apple TV.

paranoidnamechanger · 13/10/2023 09:03

A Paramount + show only available with a Paramount + subscription? What are the chances?!

paranoidnamechanger · 13/10/2023 09:11

I’m in no rush to watch it - cost-effective to wait until December when they’re all on there, so I can watch all the on a one week free trial. Otherwise it’s £14.

We love Frasier and we aren’t going to watch it because it’s ridiculous and I really dislike Nicholas Lyndhurst as an actor . Also how realistic is it that Freddie , with parents like he has , and how he was as a child / teen in the original show would end up as a regular fire fighter . It’s just utter tosh .

I have to disagree with this - it parallels my life! Me: mental health professional (shrink - doctorate level). My son: at top private school and intends to join the fire brigade when his education is over. I was 😳😳😳when I found about this storyline. I'll have to sign up with Paramount to see how it plays out !

It’s on Apple TV.

It’s on paramount+. I just watched the first 2 episodes. I don’t have Apple TV.

if you can get past the awful first 5 minutes, it gets a bit better.

Floralnomad · 13/10/2023 17:15

@Juicecharger , I’m not saying sons of Drs or academics don’t join the fire service , I based the remark on the Freddy that was in all the Frasier episodes who was a bit wimpy , allergic to all and sundry and didn’t like the outdoors .

winniethedoo · 13/10/2023 18:32

@Juicecharger good for him! I'd be very proud if my son became a firefighter, it's such a difficult but valuable job.

winniethedoo · 13/10/2023 18:35

I've signed up for paramount today just for this! Going to start after kids are in bed.

Portakalkedi · 13/10/2023 18:57

don't think I could watch, would hate to be disappointed and can't bear that bloke from Only FOols and Horses, also could not bear to watch anything with David Jason ... shame they could not get Niles back instead.

I agree with you. The child/teen Freddie would have not have even considered joining the fire serivce, no more than Frasier or Niles would have.

AnneLovesGilbert · 13/10/2023 21:31

Really enjoying it so far. Still feel slightly nervous as I love the show to pieces but it’s not cringe and it is very funny.

I also loved Only Fools, I rewatched that and Frasier while pregnant with my daughter and bawled through the endings of both, Lyndhurst can be great.

We shall see how this progresses but good right now.

beguilingeyes · 13/10/2023 21:39

Being an old person, Lyndhurst will forever be the youngest son of Ria in Butterflies. I loved that.

Floralnomad · 13/10/2023 21:47

Equally I don’t think Niles / Daphnes son would have turned out all neurotic like Nile’s ( best character in the original show) because of Daphne being his mother .

EachandEveryone · 13/10/2023 23:41

Its a shame those two wont be in it. Ive enjoyed the first two episodes and it can only get better really so I will give it a go

MadisonAvenue · 14/10/2023 12:53

I watched both last night, I wasn’t expecting much as the original series of Frasier and the whole cast was so good but I actually enjoyed watching.

Nice touch with the memorials at the end of the first episode too.

KillingMeDeftly · 15/10/2023 11:10

I was pleasantly surprised by the first two episodes. Kelsey Grammer is a total pro - he slips back into the role like he never left. I never grew up with Fools and Horses so find Nicholas Lyndhurst perfectly competent in his role. And I can see both Niles and Daphne in the character of David. Hopefully we'll see Roz in the not too distant future as Peri Gilpin has said she'll be reprising the role. I think Bebe Neuwirth said she'll be making a guest appearance as Lilith too so that's something to look forward to!

BeginningToLookALotLike · 16/10/2023 11:09

I didn't realise Nicholas Lyndhurst was so Marmite! I'm a fan.

LunaNorth · 23/10/2023 18:36

I must be a feminist killjoy. I turned it off when Nicholas Lyndhurst’s character more or less asked his head of faculty if she was tightly wound because she needed a good shag.

EachandEveryone · 23/10/2023 18:38

There’s something about it that just hasn’t clicked yet I feel.

Ironic really, since he's so bland.

mikado1 · 23/10/2023 19:17

But why are Niles and Daphne not in it?? God that wedding day escape episode I could watch on repeat. They were so so good together.

Nor did I , I thought it was just this household that disliked his acting . @mikado1 the actors that played them didn’t want to do it .

I think DHP just declined it and JL may have had a clash with another show she was on. But not 100% sure.

I’m still not massively on board with the new season. It’s not as funny, the two female leads are boring and a bit ‘forced’ and I don’t feel the writers know what to do with David. I’m still watching for any references to the original season, and the cameos from Lilith and Roz.
