Wow really? I think he's an exquisite actor. There's absolutely no similarity between Rodney Trotter and Gary Sparrow! Which is usually a sign of a fantastic actor

I have often said that ‘Goodnight Sweetheart’ only worked as the public had such great affection for ‘Rodney’. Well, that and the time-travel aspect. He (Gary Sparrow) was basically a liar and bigamist, he also became unbearably smug in the later series and treated his so-called best mate, Ron, terribly.

The very similar ‘Bliss’ starring Stephen Mangan was panned and sank without trace after one series.

I do wish the BBC had made another full series of GS after the return episode a few years ago. If only to see Gary get his comeuppance!

Middle class people can't 'get' Only Fools and Horses - you are talking utter tosh!!

I'm certainly not as high up as middle class and never found Only Fools funny in the slightest .

Riverlee · 07/10/2023 07:56

I really loved Goodnight Sweetheart. Also he was good in Butterflies and New Tricks.

autumniscomingsoon · 07/10/2023 08:11

Only fools and horses is absolutely hilarious and I think it remains one of the best comedies ever made, like a previous poster said the mix of comedy and drama was great. Think it will be interesting how KG and NL interact in this new Frasier, mentally would never have placed two together

Same

I lost interest in the reboot when I realised Nils and Daphne were not returning, I can't imagine how Nicholas Lyndhurst will fit in to the show. I will probably watch the first episode at least to see how it goes.

CoolShoeshine · 07/10/2023 17:22

There’s a programme on Paramount which is also on YouTube, about 30 mins long, I can’t remember what it was called but it is basically an introduction to the new Frasier, showing all the new actors and characters and recapping with clips from old Frasier and Cheers. It looks very good (except Nicholas Lyndhurst imo)

OutragiousDemandsAtWork · 07/10/2023 18:55

Nope. In the UK it is going to be on Apple TV.

Frasier reboot

Apple TV only show Apple TV original TV shows.

Paramount + is the company who’ve made the Frasier reboot and that’s why it’s exclusive to that platform.

Still don’t believe me that you can only watch it on Paramount +? They uploaded the official trailer a few weeks ago:

Frasier (2023) | Official Trailer | Paramount+

Dr. Frasier Crane begins the next chapter of his life in Boston and has new challenges to face, new relationships to forge, and an old dream or two to finall...

OutragiousDemandsAtWork · 07/10/2023 19:29

You’re wrong.

That link I posted states explicitly that Frasier will be on Apple TV in the UK.

I’m fully aware that it has been commissioned by paramount plus, but in the UK it is going to be on Apple TV.

It's never a good idea to bring back programmes after so long is it

Have to agree with this. I'm a huge Open All Hours fan and tried twice to watch Still Open All Hours but hated it. It just didn't work without Arkwright. And with Frasier, which I adore, I don't think it will work without Niles, Daphne and the real Marty.

We love Frasier and we aren’t going to watch it because it’s ridiculous and I really dislike Nicholas Lyndhurst as an actor . Also how realistic is it that Freddie , with parents like he has , and how he was as a child / teen in the original show would end up as a regular fire fighter . It’s just utter tosh .

I agree with you - apart from the Nicholas Lyndhurst bit. I've loved him ever since he was in Butterflies.

MorrisZapp · 11/10/2023 06:44

He was my first crush in Butterflies! I was too young to realise his brother was incredibly attractive.

The worst reboot of all time was To the Manor Born, that had a comeback at Christmas a while ago. Utterly toe curling.

I adored both brothers in Butterflies!

Fortunately I didn't see the reboot of To the Manor Born, I just can't imagine it. Sometimes it's best to just leave a good thing in the past.

I was very dubious about this, but having seen the preview and read reports so far I am hopeful.
Everyone seems to be down on Kelsey Grammer because he's Republican, but I met him a few years ago and he was lovely. He was incredibly kind to a friend of mine.

I disagree that it's 'never a good idea'.
We have enjoyed both Still Open All Hours and the new Porridge.

I'm so glad to hear that. I'm such a fan of his work. So pleased to hear how kind he is.

People are not down on him because he’s a Republican , it’s more likely to be that he was pictured in a pro life T shirt and said he admired Putin ( although that was before the Ukraine war ) .

AllProperTeaIsTheft · 11/10/2023 19:58

I just can’t bring myself to watch it without Niles. He stole every scene he was in!

topnoddy · 11/10/2023 20:34

I love the original Frasier and think this reboot is such a bad idea .

Can't stand Nicholas Lyndhusrt i'm afraid .

Things should be left as were after such a long time

I'm also a big fan of Detectorists and found that last years Christmas special show was one show too many .

BooseysMom · 11/10/2023 21:37

Same here! Who does he play in the new Frasier? I can't see him fitting in at all.

Cattenberg · 12/10/2023 23:50

I think Nicholas Lyndhurst is a great comic actor. If I remember rightly, he was only 19 when he was cast as Rodney in OFAH, but he could already hold his own alongside David Jason and Leonard Pierce.

According to one review of the new Frasier, the new version takes about three episodes to find its feet, then it all comes together and just works. I hope it is good. I loved Frasier and much preferred it to Friends.
