Samcro
Thank for that! Fabulous ❤️

CaveMum · 02/10/2023 16:35

Arlene Phillips was the choreographer for one of the tv dance troupes, can’t remember which!

Piggywaspushed · 02/10/2023 16:48

Legs and Co.

Who were extraordinarily poor dancers...

Bluffinwithmymuffin · 02/10/2023 16:07

But to be fair to Pans People and the rest, the TOTP brief was to jig around in a vaguely entertaining way to a pop song at an afternoon's notice. They were all trained dancers.

.......... and try to avoid being groped by Jimmy Savile.

FluffyCatBonzo · 02/10/2023 16:51

I have to say Shirley is looking fab this series - love her hair that way.

I posted it here as it was relevant to this thread

EineReiseDurchDieZeit · 02/10/2023 17:08

No worries it's just a general reminder because people complained about excess videos causing the thread to not load properly last year. This thread is nearly finished now though

really bad dancing

I remember Marc Bolan’s TV show (I wasn’t a fan), and I remember his death when I was 14, but I never appreciated before what a good-looking man he was.

But to be fair to Pans People and the rest, the TOTP brief was to jig around in a vaguely entertaining way to a pop song at an afternoon's notice. They were all trained dancers.

But Legs and Co had actual routines, choreographed and performed to songs when no band was on stage in the 70s, early 80s. They were truly awful. Not just the routines, the actual alleged dancing.

They once experimented with men in Legs and Co and got rid of them... which rather suggests wat they thought the females were there for.

Maireas · 02/10/2023 17:31

Oh it was quite obvious, @Piggywaspushed ! Pan's People and Legs and Co were hired and choreographed for one purpose, really. Usually costumed accordingly.

Bluffinwithmymuffin · 02/10/2023 17:33

@TheShellBeach
Yes and I think there were one or two others who were too handy for anyone's liking... the hairy cornflake springs to mind.

Playingintheshadow · 02/10/2023 17:37

So glad that Les went. It was unbearable to watch him. Never been a fan anyway, just find him irritating!!

I don't know what Shirley was watching but he was not entertaining!! That's how some other duffers have kept their places longer, because they were funny. Les tottered down those steps like he was about to fall, and his dancing looked like some kind of a medical episode!!

How anyone voted for him, I have no idea!

MavisMcMinty · 02/10/2023 17:47

It’s quite possible that nobody voted for him. I struggled to whittle my free votes down to 3 contestants, there were none spare for shit dancers.

GoneHere · 02/10/2023 17:57

I was surprised Les was in the DO as I assumed he’d get a fair fee public votes given he’s a household name. I think it’s probably too long ago now to have any sort of actual following plus (and this might sound bad I’m aware) he was very difficult to watch and made me feel uncomfortable. Bad dancers as usually inspiring (“least they giving it a go even if they are rubbish good on them”) or funny (“they know they can’t dance but they're up for a laugh and that makes me feel good”) or something. He just made me feel uncomfortable. He doesn’t look well. I understand that might just be his age and way he his but he honestly looks unwell even in the VTs like there is something about the way he holds himself and his face and even the way he presents himself. I thought he’d be funnier and livelier. I genuinely hope he is okay and that’s just the way he is. It doesn’t make for very happy viewing though so I think that’s why he didn’t get many votes.

Lentilweaver · 02/10/2023 17:59

Right decision, ofc.

I may have to vote for Layton, because I rewatched his QS most of all. I also rewatched Amanda and Krishnan ( the last for his smile, not his skills).

EdnaMole · 02/10/2023 18:00

I agree, I thought he looked most unwell, especially in the training VTs.
Could hardly bear to watch him. I bet he’s actually relieved to go.

With Les Dennis - I wonder if he's very aware that he has a young family to support so getting all the gigs he can.

To be honest, I've always had a bit of a soft spot for him. I hope that he's okay.

He is on stage. Current theatre tour of 42nd Street.

Maireas · 02/10/2023 18:32

Fleur rapping? I don't think this adds anything.

Maireas · 02/10/2023 18:34

If Les is currently doing 42nd Street, how on earth was he going to fit Strictly in?

Thought it was awful and pointless

JayAlfredPrufrock · 02/10/2023 18:40

Just no.

AllTheYoungGoodyTwoShoes · 02/10/2023 18:47

I saw 42nd Street recently in Glasgow, Les Dennis wasn't in it. The role I assume he plays was played by Michael Praed. He didn't do much dancing in the show from what I remember. It was a fantastic show with amazing dancing from the cast.
