I think so! You're only allowed to dislike Cristy it seems!

😂She seems to use a lot of manipulation. Saku is my favourite

Discwriter · 01/11/2023 22:46

Have to say Im really enjoying Alison. She is a natural with the bakers and brings a good energy to the tent. Also think she and Noel works great together!

Robotalkingrubbish · 02/11/2023 09:00

Yes Alison is brilliant, such a warm natural person and that laugh!

I agree Saku is so likeable but I don’t think she will win. I don’t especially warm to Tasha or Cristy. Matty out next?

Rummikub · 02/11/2023 09:06

Alison is great. I remember that thread pre Bake off where lots of posters were saying they didn’t want her and she’d be awful. I hope they’ve changed their minds!

MustGetOutofBed · 02/11/2023 09:14

I agree @Robotalkingrubbish, I think Matty's days are numbered (unfortunately 😔 as I really like him).
Top three into the final I think will be Dan, Tasha, and Cristy - although I'd love too see Saku there.

KillingMeDeftly · 02/11/2023 09:23

I think Tasha will definitely make it to the final. Possibly Josh too but the third person could be anyone! It only takes one slip up...

And once in the final there's no guarantee that the person who's done well all along won't suddenly have a bad day - remember Ruby?

Maireas · 02/11/2023 09:43

Indeed, also Jurgen, the lovable German brass player. I felt sure he was the winner! Anyone can make a slip up.

I met him in the immigration queue at Atlanta airport (having being on the same flight) with his wife and son and he was lovely, very friendly and chatty (immigration was awful we all missed flights)

Maireas · 02/11/2023 13:17

That confirms it! They did seem like a nice family.

I will own up to being one of the posters who was dreading Alison doing Bake Off and ruining it.

I have never liked her in anything else but I agree she is good in Bake Off because she isn't trying to make it all about her and screeching and doing that awful laugh. She comes across as friendly and supportive to the bakers

Rummikub · 02/11/2023 18:14

That’s good you like her in bake off.

Ive liked her in most things she’s done. Always seems friendly and warm.

EvilRingahBitch · 02/11/2023 18:32

I like her but was slightly worried she could be a bit much for Bake-off, because she can be very full on, but she/the producers, have judged her approach very nicely, as I hoped.

I think they could do with dialling down the smut a bit though. When it used to pop up occasionally out of the blue and the audience were left to spot it for themselves it was really funny. Every bloody week, accompanied with Barbara Windsor / Sid James guffaws and comedy trombone sounds on the soundtrack (ok maybe not the latter but it's only a matter of time) I can do without.

TheMadGardener · 02/11/2023 18:33

I think Josh will make the final.

Cristy is really nice in real life. I haven't seen her for years but one of her daughters was a pupil at a school I worked at. When she appeared on Bake Off there were a flurry of messages from my ex-colleagues going, "Isn't that X's mum???" Wish she'd made cakes for the staffroom!

TheMadGardener · 02/11/2023 18:33

And I couldn't stand Matt Lucas on GBBO, Alison is much better.

Rummikub · 02/11/2023 18:35

Agree about the smutty innuendo though.

TallulahG · 02/11/2023 18:36

I absolutely love Alison on here. She's made it so much more genuinely fun and she's so warm. Noel is less annoying with her.

MyCircumference · 02/11/2023 19:19

i like Alison's dresses

Ellmau · 02/11/2023 19:45

Yes, she's been a revelation for me. In the few glimpses I'd had of her before she was just too much loud personality, but she comes across brilliantly on this, genuinely warm and likeable.

MrsPuddle · 02/11/2023 21:14

I don’t understand why Dana was dropped, when her creations always look so good. Thought matty should go, but hey what do I know. Did I miss something?

It goes on taste, texture, bake quality as much if not more than looks. Her Isomalt box was stunning, but the beauty was all in the flowers really, and it's not exactly baking. But they've said before, when someone goes and you don't understand it as a viewer, it's usually about taste.

Strictlyfanoftenyears · 02/11/2023 22:00

I agree that Noel is much much better with Alison than with Matt. I really started to dislike him the longer he was on. Him and Noel just seemed wrong together (but I loved Noel with Sandi). Alison is better on Bakeoff than her other shows IMO.

ZadocPDederick · 02/11/2023 22:28

Has anyone ever seen cakes with those isomalt boxes in restaurants or cake shops? I never have, and wouldn't be that impressed if I was being expected to pay for the box. They don't look particularly good and seem absolutely pointless.

LadyEloise1 · 02/11/2023 23:58

I thought some of those showstoppers really lived up to their name.
I was in awe at Dana's Isomalt box.

cheshirecatssmile · 03/11/2023 17:53

Had our bake off at work today and Dan came to judge, lots of photos and bake off questions. Poor lad had 12 cakes to taste , took a while. Our lovely activity lead was the winner with a Sicilian lemon cake. We sold cakes afterwards and made £350 for our dementia patients!

Maireas · 03/11/2023 17:55

Sounds great, @cheshirecatssmile ! Excellent cause as well 👍
