I love the way Tasha signs. Her accent seems to come through. I hope that doesn’t sound ignorant.

No idea about Tasha, but I gather that sign language does have different "accents" and that, say, Australian and American Sign Language is quite difficult for Brits to follow.

Great to see someone wearing a cochlear implant. I've looked after so many children having them implanted, so great to see the end result.

How much does the cochlear implant allow Tash to hear? Her speaking voice is what you would expect of a hearing person. Was she born hearing?
I'm just curious. She (along with all the others) is just lovely to watch and a wonderfully talented baker.

kermitsmua · 06/10/2023 13:13

I caught up with it this morning. I'm really really enjoying it this year. It seems much calmer and kinder. Alison and Noel are such a lovely combination and Paul has definitely softened.
It's a lovely warm hug of a TV show Smile

Toddlerteaplease · 06/10/2023 16:31

@kermitsmua I'm not entirely sure how it works. As they aren't switched on for about 6 weeks post implantation. I think it allows the brain to hear 'sound' but then they have to be taught how to interpret what they can hear. But maybe someone more knowledgeable will know.

Toddlerteaplease · 06/10/2023 16:32

It also depends if she was born with hearing or developed hearing loss later on.,

Why have they got a Signer? If for viewers benefit perhaps he should be on camera rather than shoved off out of sight apart from fleeting glances.

It's interpreter not signer btw.

Tasha is deaf and uses interpreters to understand speech.

I agree that this year's Bake Off has a much nicer vibe. I was unsure about Alison Hammond, but I think she is great on this.

EekGoesTheBaby · 06/10/2023 23:30

Finally found you all!

TallulahG · 08/10/2023 19:36

I love Alison, she makes Noel less annoying

I think Matt Lucas not being there makes Noel less annoying.... this series is so much better without him. He was funny about 5% of the time and annoying 75% of the time. Noel is alright in small doses.

jay55 · 09/10/2023 12:25

The problem with Matt was he joined the show as someone who liked cake and promptly went on a diet and became someone too scared to get too close to the sugar.

I do like Alison in the role. She's absolutely someone who can keep the energy up in the tent and get a laugh from bakers who are having a rough time.

I'm glad it's not just me.. 🌹

ZadocPDederick · 09/10/2023 18:48

I was so glad to have a biscuit week that was about the biscuits and not who could build the most complicated construction.

RampantIvy · 09/10/2023 19:33

I agree @ZadocPDederick. I much prefer to see proper baking as well.

jay55 · 10/10/2023 20:03

Evening if anyone is around. Cottage loaf, not seen one for ages.

rockingbird · 10/10/2023 20:04

littlbrowndog · 10/10/2023 20:08

I don't like olives or sundries tomatoes in bread. Quite fancy the garlic one.

Blueberrycreampie · 10/10/2023 20:13

A cottage loaf is so traditional- can I have mine plain please with good butter and jam, or maybe cheese?

littlbrowndog · 10/10/2023 20:14

Me too,

billysboy · 10/10/2023 20:16
