Faith was so irritating with that patient who gave birth last nigh. She came across as so patronising and how many times did she need to use the phrase “oh sweetheart…” in one scene?!

I genuinely thought something was going to come from the fact she used a pregnant woman’s urine for her sample (although not knowing she was pregnant), I.e the lab would tell Iain that HCG was detected in the urine and so he’d then assume Faith was pregnant etc. Something like that anyway.

I really felt for Donna last night…..back to back shifts, no sleep and sheer exhaustion is a very real problem amongst NHS nurses.

And poor Rida. I thought the baby was going to turn out to be the next door neighbour’s baby from an affair or something. Considering she seems to be such a good nice, I thought it odd when the comment was made that she’d been late for work three mornings that week. It seems quite out of character so I wonder if any storyline is building with that 🤷‍♀️

I love Jan ❤️

I didn’t like Teddy’s girlfriend last night (I can never remember her name) as she was being quite nasty and dismissive to Shah. I’m glad Shah told Teddy the truth but I hope it doesn’t affect their friendship.

I like Sah. I think Faith does love Iain but she unfortunately loves the drugs more. For now.

I love Jan and I don't think Ffion is worthy of her, most of the time.

Really? Jan constantly puts other people ahead of her relationship with Ffion. I'm just amazed that Ffion keeps coming back.

What was the comment 'safe home' about from Charlie at the beginning

It was a portent, because he's so old and wise that he can see through time.... <spooky music>

purpleme12 · 23/07/2023 11:34

🤣

bizzey · 23/07/2023 11:46

There was a shift in Donna's character this week.

It had been anoying me in previous episodes where she was being really bitchy, bossy and nasty to the junior staff as she wasn't like that in Holby.

Yesterday she went back to being a
nice person with a softer side that she has always had .

To garner sympathy from the audience who didn't watch every single episode of Holby City ! . ?

Maybe Ian used a home drugs testing kit that just did drugs instead of lab ones that test for more.
I too was expecting him to say he knew the urine wasn't hers and it had pregnancy hormones (poss traces of blood if the girl had just given birth ?)

Wonder why they did the ending at the start ?

To highlight the long shift ?

Hellocatshome · 23/07/2023 12:01

I know its not real but would a hospital really use a junior member of staff who wasn't fluent in a language to give someone the news that their wife had died and was also unknowingly pregnant?

I worked in a call centre and even we had access to Language Line where you could get an interpreter on the phone within minutes.

purpleme12 · 23/07/2023 13:25

I'm not glad that Sah told Teddy.

Yes I agree that Donna was different in this episode. But almost totally different.
Can't comment on Holby as didn't watch it

Spidey66 · 23/07/2023 13:37

I felt for Rida. She's so sweet, and was doing her best with her limited Arabic, but I thought Donna was so dismissive of her getting emotional. I'm a nurse, we're human, of course we have empathy and get upset at things.

But I agree Language Line can be used. It's not perfect, but if the phone is on speakerphone, or even something like Zoom or Teams, (they seem to have tablets) its doable and can work ok as a 3 way conversation.

purpleme12 · 23/07/2023 13:42

I thought Donna getting exasperated with Rida was odd. I thought she was obviously flustered because she was trying to convey the message in a language she wasn't confident in just to help out. She probably would have been calmer in English.
She should have been grateful she was helping.

AGoodDayForSomebodyElseToDie · 23/07/2023 18:45

I thought Charlie’s line was “Save hope”, not “safe home” but I haven’t a clue how it was a helpful or constructive thing to say.

Faith doesn’t deserve Iain, and I don’t mean because of the drugs. She’s patronising and obnoxious and can get in the bloody bin as far as I’m concerned.

I do like Sah though, and they did the right thing telling Teddy.

purpleme12 · 23/07/2023 18:50

Oh.
It was the subtitles who said 'safe home'.

AGoodDayForSomebodyElseToDie · 23/07/2023 18:57

There’s a video on the BBC Casualty page on Facebook with “save hope” as the caption for the line.

purpleme12 · 23/07/2023 18:59

Yes when I play it back 'save hope ' does make more sense 🤣
The subtitle people clearly made a boo boo there!

AGoodDayForSomebodyElseToDie · 23/07/2023 19:34

Arguably it was Derek T’s boo boo - he had two words to deliver and he fluffed them into unrecognisable mumbling!

spiderlight · 23/07/2023 20:29

I heard it as 'safe home'. Maybe it was meant to be ambiguous?

Isn't it a bit soon to have another overtired-nurse-crashes-car-on-way-home-from-double-shift storyline after Robyn?

purpleme12 · 23/07/2023 20:31

I think 'save hope' makes the most sense so I think it probably was that, just that the subtitles must have been wrong

mayorofcasterbridge · 24/07/2023 20:36

I was pretty clear Charlie said "safe home" and it was ironic because she didn't get home safely?

unvillage · 25/07/2023 23:04

Rida should never have been put into that position and Donna knows that, I'm surprised it was ever allowed to happen (other than clumsy writing).

I think Sah is fab, they're a sweet person. The Paige kiss was clearly an adrenaline-fueled mistake and they feel guilty about it while Paige would prefer just to forget about it and never let Teddy know it happened. Not sure how committed Paige is to Teddy though.

unvillage · 25/07/2023 23:05

mayorofcasterbridge · 24/07/2023 20:36

But she did get home safely after that shift, the accident happened the next day.

unvillage · 25/07/2023 23:08

I was annoyed at yet another tearful Jan and Ffion reconciliation. Obviously Jan wouldn't talk about her intention to illegally euthanise her ex-husband and conceal the evidence to her police officer wife! They're both as awful as each other in the relationship, they need to split permanently. Both controlling and grappling for it. If Ffion ever follows through on taking Gethin to Dignitas I will be truly shocked. She, he and Jan all want the same thing - why does she demand to keep it secret from Jan? Split the cost between you surely.

purpleme12 · 25/07/2023 23:13

Yes they do want same thing. So why keep it secret really

daffodilandtulip · 27/07/2023 06:59

Would Ffion lose her job if it was found out that she helped to take him? Maybe she doesn't trust Jan enough?
I've never liked that relationship. Miserable and controlling.

SoupDragon · 27/07/2023 12:03

Rida should never have been put into that position and Donna knows that, I'm surprised it was ever allowed to happen (other than clumsy writing).

I think it only happened through desperation because of the situation and Rita wanting to help. Like most things, it probably wouldn't have happened in real life. Jade used to be dragged in as sign language interpreter when they couldn't get an official one and I think they've don't it before with characters who can speak another language .

SoupDragon · 27/07/2023 12:04

the Fionn/Gethin thing is stupid. She ditched Jan because she kept lying to her and now she's telling Gethin to lie to Jan. 🙄

MyTruthIsOut · 27/07/2023 12:05

daffodilandtulip · 27/07/2023 06:59

I've never liked that relationship. Miserable and controlling.

I’m very intrigued as to how Ffion plans to get Gethin there without Jan realising they’ve both disappeared for a day or so?

I really don’t understand the whole secrecy aspect at all. It makes no sense.
