Annika, thriller with Nicola Walker. 9.15pm BBC1. Previously on a different channel I think. Series 2 coming later in the year.

Ooh will have a look. Never look at Sat night TV as it's crap.

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 20/05/2023 18:58

Annika is brilliant - I can’t wait for series 2.

I live near Glasgow - it’s filmed on the Clyde and around there, and the building they use as the HQ for Annika’s team is actually the Beacon Arts Centre in Greenock, and I’ve been there for coffee - not much of a claim to fame, I know.

IwantToRetire · 20/05/2023 19:17

It was originally shown on Alibi TV which is part of UKTV and are all free to view.
https://alibi.uktv.co.uk/shows/annika/ They also screened The Diplomat (not the later US series) which was quite good with Sophie Rundle.

Worth keeping an eye on the Drama channel as well.

Any way back to the topic. I wanted to like Annika but Nicola Walker is so mannered she actually distracts from the plots IMO!

Annika | Alibi Channel

Unforgotten's Nicola Walker leads a Marine Homicide Unit in our new crime drama.

I know, you'd have like to be a Nicola Walker fan because she does upstage herself with the Nicola Walkerisms 😁
But she's very watchable all the same.

It's very good. I watched on alibi or would have done a thread

Enjoy

I thought i had seen it before! I thoroughly enjoyed it so I'm very glad to see a second series is planned Grin

Ginger1982 · 20/05/2023 22:01

The talking to camera is weird.

I did wonder why there was a new Saturday night drama and no thread from blondes 🤣

Willmafrockfit · 21/05/2023 06:28

i enjoyed that
quite quickly solved though
but did enjoy the humour

Blondeshavemorefun · 21/05/2023 08:16

Awww @daffodilandtulip you would have been tagged in the original one I did

RavenclawDiadem · 21/05/2023 08:45

Watched this a couple of months ago, enjoyed it. Also played the location spotting game as we live in Glasgow too and it's nice to have a show where the crime is all wrapped up in 55 minutes without the endless red herrings and plot twists of a multi-episode show.

the80sweregreat · 21/05/2023 10:19

Dh remarked it had a ' death in paradise ' vibe to it.
Not quite, but I think he meant that it was wrapped up in less an hour and the main detective was a bit socially awkward. It also had some dark humour. Plus all the suspects were lined up together for the final reveal. The 'fourth wall ' idea was different, been done before , but seemed to work here.

SoupDragon · 21/05/2023 10:22

I think I enjoyed it but I'm not 100% sold on it. I was annoyed at how suddenly they wrapped the case up and I did find Annika somewhat annoying.

soddingspiderseason · 21/05/2023 11:14

I watched the whole series a month or so ago, and came to enjoy it. Initially was quite disconcerted by the direct talk to camera, but after episode 3, I got used to it. Great scenery, and very much enjoyed seeing Paul McGann in a quite gentle, leading male role.

longtompot · 21/05/2023 12:19

I have only seen it on Drama and all the ads ruined it for me, made it feel very disjointed, and I think I started watching half through the series, so I didn't understand the connections between certain characters. But as it's now on bbc 1 I will give it another go.

CwmYoy · 21/05/2023 12:20

Highly recommended.

freddieatemyhamster · 21/05/2023 13:43

I like Nicola Walker in most things but I thought this was fairly poor. Odd editing, jumpy undeveloped plot and some detective prog cliches. I actually thought the breaking the wall talk to camera was the saving grace, added a bit of personality and dark humour to it all. It had a daytime drama vibe to it to me. Doubt I'll watch another one!

You did do a thread on it, I started reading it yesterday and got quite confused until I noticed the date Wink

I enjoyed the first episode, didn't expect the case to be wrapped up so quickly but it was a nice change from the usual series. Easy watch Saturday night telly.

kateislate · 21/05/2023 13:59

😂Hahaha yes! I do like her a lot though.

Jamie Sives is great too - highly recommend Guilt. All 3 series should be on Iplayer.

Willmafrockfit · 21/05/2023 17:09

i like Jamie Sives as well
but i was a bit meh about the seemingly obligatory gay daughter.
but it had humour which was a bonus

Marsyas · 21/05/2023 17:19

I wanted to like it and I didn't necessarily dislike it but it was quite odd - the theme music and location shots set it up as a Scandi noir but it was more light-hearted. I wasnt keen on the rapid cuts from one scene to another. And some things didn't make sense - why was the daughter in a play with a speaking part seemingly only a day or so after she joined a new school?

It's really weird how she's developed these 'mannerisms' over time. I wonder why?

I've recently re-watched Touching Evil (Nichola Walker and Robson Green) which was recorded in 1997, so she's VERY young! Absolutely NO mannerisms at all! So something has happened between then and now!

I've had to stop watching things with her in it now, because her hesitating speech irritates me! Shame because I think she's a great actress otherwise.

Blondeshavemorefun · 21/05/2023 20:54

@DuncinToffee I meant do a bbc new drama thread on it

I know I did one when was on alibi 😂😂
