Is anyone watching this? It follows the lives of kids who have left the care system in Coventry.

I am. It's very sad isn't it?

Lovelent23 · 10/05/2023 21:36

Yep,we are here. Just turned on: what was his trauma?

FattyAirways · 10/05/2023 21:37

It is sad.

I'm not sure what Xorin's trauma is as I have just turned on myself, but I cannot warm to his mother at all. I feel like she's not even trying.

His mum struggled and he and his brother were taken into care. Violence I believe. Also he was selling drugs for a gang at the age of 14

Lovelent23 · 10/05/2023 21:39

Same feelings from me

FattyAirways · 10/05/2023 21:42

and then Annabelle's parents are bringing more kids into the world when they can't look after the ones they already have. Bringing kids into an unsuitable environment. Poor, poor kids.

I really want things to work out for Annabelle

SiblingFights · 10/05/2023 21:45

So sad that it looks like things are difficult financially after the boys are back

Wavescrashingonthebeach · 10/05/2023 21:46

What channel is this please? Internet search not getting me anywhere

FattyAirways · 10/05/2023 21:47

@rhetorician Me too. What a lovely, mature girl. Her parents saying that she could bring up their baby if they can't. What on earth?!

Xorin's mum is going on about his anger issues. The apple obviously doesn't fall far from the tree.

FattyAirways · 10/05/2023 21:47

@Wavescrashingonthebeach Channel 4.

Lovelent23 · 10/05/2023 21:47

Xorin's mum is obviously a big part of his problem

FattyAirways · 10/05/2023 21:49

@Lovelent23 I agree. It's no wonder he is the way he is with her. He seems like a bright boy too. I'm sure he has huge potential. I wish she would stop swearing at the kids.

OP posts:
Tortiemiaw · 10/05/2023 21:50

Annabelle is just so lovely

Lovelent23 · 10/05/2023 21:51

Yes,the swearing, and anger, whilst telling someone to deal with their anger is never particularly compelling.

Agree Annabelle seems to have her head screwed on right, and I hope she gets the bounce of the ball in her life.

FattyAirways · 10/05/2023 21:52

@Tortiemiaw I have a feeling that she'll be a wonderful mum.

Absolutely horrendous.

We are failing children and young people. If you haven’t got stable, consistent, firm and loving role models for children and young people, things are going to fall apart. That role model can’t always be mum and dad but someone has to be there and at the moment as a country we’re failing, because it’s being left to chance too often. Kids passed from foster home to foster home to out on their own - or sent home to mum/dad that are clearly incapable of raising a child, very sadly.

How do you solve it, goodness only knows.

I went through stuff as a child but was extremely lucky that at age 17 I did by chance find an adult who was able to give me the parenting I desperately needed; but too often this doesn’t happen - and you end up with those children ending up in prison, substance misuse.

Just really bloody sad all round.

rhetorician · 10/05/2023 21:54

I think Annabelle's decision NOT to read her records was really mature and shows a capacity for self care that I hope will stand to her

Hotfuninthesummertime · 10/05/2023 21:55

Annabelle seems so bright. Her parents have had 3 kids taken off them ffs. I wonder why her and her brother weren't adopted as she was only 5 and her brother looks like a baby.

Lovelent23 · 10/05/2023 22:03

That was a brighter ending for both than I had expected 👍hope it goes well for them both👍
The parents, however, especially Annabelle's, need a long hard look in the mirror

VaddaABeetch · 10/05/2023 22:13

I felt for Xorin, he loved Wales, could he have been set up for a job there?

annabelle is a lovely young woman, I’m rooting for her.

Wingedharpy · 10/05/2023 22:19

There's a lot of luck in life IMHO and it starts with the family that you're born into.
Some kids don't stand a chance, poor souls.
Annabelle is amazing and I hope she lives happily and contented with her baby.
Good luck to Xorin.

AnyaMarx · 10/05/2023 22:25

I'm watching with interest as I was in care .

One thing did make me 😳.

Now I quite relate to xorins mum as I work with similar people- (as in sort their lives out for them ) but she made me lol when she said she can't afford to eat

She can afford the fags tho and she doesn't exactly look amaciated.

What does make me raise one eyebrow is a friend is trying to adopt and my god - the hoops - medicals and interviews and intrusion - wonder why there is no such test before you pop a few out you can't parent , feed or look after

Depressing. But I work in similar fields so not shocked .

EarFluff · 10/05/2023 22:43

All of the “parents” in this program were thick as pig shit and an absolute disgrace. The most mature person in the whole thing was Annabelle and I wish her all the luck in the world with her little boy. Wish you could neuter people like you do pets.

Xorin’s “mother” was an absolute joke. Telling him to get to the gym whilst she’s sat there obese and puffing on cigarettes? Too skint to eat my arse … she’s hardly wasting away is she, thankfully she can still afford the cigs - priorities right? That lad should have stayed in care, that woman is not fit to look after herself never mind the kids.

AnyaMarx · 10/05/2023 22:52

I think that's quite harsh really - Kelly was actually not that bad in the great scheme of things - yeah sweary and rough as a badgers arse - but she did love her kids you could see that - she seemed to be doing ok with xoirin to be fair - and credit to the lad for turning things round .

Annabelle will be ok - she's got her head screwed on that one . I was her . I had my first at 19 and I was so determined to do better than I'd had .
And I did ! And I developed an amazing career as they grew up .
