Xorin's mum really didn't take responsibility for her part in Xorin going into care. When the interviewer asked him why he went into care he said something along the lines of 'so many things happened before it came to that' but when she was asked she said he called her a fat bitch and so she slapped him. SS wouldn't be happy for a parent to slap a cheeky teenager but they wouldn't remove the kid for one incident like that. A lot of other things must have happened in that home before those boys were removed.
And she was a bit silly claiming she and Xorin had a 10/10 relationship when he'd been in care for 4 years and living 100 miles away. Of course there were going to be issues getting used to each other again. And claiming there was nothing wrong with her parenting. Well Xorin was much more realistic in his score about that.
I'm a foster carer. My two foster kids, now teenagers, have been with me 9 years. They are much less streetwise than Xorin. But also, hopefully, much more protected from things like being groomed by drug gangs.
I think a lot of damage comes from being moved around foster families. And kids in care homes have to be tough and put up barriers.
I like to think that when my two get to 18 they'll still be with me. But blood is thicker than water and the lure of birth family is very strong for these kids. I would have liked to have known if Annabelle had a foster parent still in her life. It was sad really how she totally understood her parents' failings but also felt the need to stay close to them and visit them often.
It seemed to me that her mum only got pregnant once Annabelle did as she was jealous. It was funny that in the last 13 years she hadn't had another baby but suddenly as soon as her daughter was, so was she.
