Is anyone watching this? It follows the lives of kids who have left the care system in Coventry.

Kane was so good to his mum wasn't he ? Seemed a lovely lad.

AmyandPhilipfan · 15/05/2023 13:17

Yes Kane seemed absolutely lovely. To be fair they all were really, just some were unsurprisingly a bit rough round the edges!

Hotfuninthesummertime · 15/05/2023 19:42

I think the story behind why Kane and the twins were taken is sketchy. Maybe he just didn't want it broadcast. His mum is lucky he's so good to her

2daystogo · 15/05/2023 21:27

I watched this a few days ago.
It's heartbreaking seeing kids having to go through this.
Xorins mum needs to stop swearing so much! You could see she loved her kids deeply but she's not doing herself any favours by constantly swearing and letting them have 0 respect for her. I also didn't believe when she said she hadn't got any money to eat for weeks and she's clearly got enough for the cigs and that massive tattoo on her neck wasn't there when we first saw her but when xorin had moves back in it was. She'd obvs been ok to pay for that.
Annabelle was absolutely lovely and I think she'll do well for herself. She seems so so mature and I doubt she would've been had she been left with her parents.
Byron needs to stop self sabotaging and keep away from the drink. He's smart enough to know this and I really hope he manages it.
I forgot the name of the girl in this epsidoe but she's clearly also self sabotaging and lashing out at everyone around her. I'm glad she's still getting the help she needs though and who knows what she's been through, they never mentioned why she was in care.
Havana, such a talented lively girl, again I think she'll be just fine.
Kane seemed in denial about why he was in care but I think it's because he didn't want to lose his mum and I get that. He is so so lovely to his mum, she's a very lucky woman.

It said there's this whole image people think of of children's homes as an institution crammed full of bunk beds when that's not the case at all.
I don't think anyone thinks of this when they think of children's homes.

purpleme12 · 22/05/2023 22:52

They call me the Gordon Ramsay of Cov 🤣

purpleme12 · 22/05/2023 23:22

So heartbreaking and scary listening to these memories of them being taken away from their parents 😓

purpleme12 · 22/05/2023 23:23

Bloody hell Bailey grabbed someone's hair and kicked her 😳

purpleme12 · 22/05/2023 23:54

I want to know what happened with Batley, if she's ok now ☹️

SiouxsieSiouxStiletto · 25/05/2023 18:44

Did anyone watch lady night's episode?

Makingupfactstosuitmyagenda · 26/05/2023 06:05

@SiouxsieSiouxStiletto i watched it on demand a little earlier. I’ve heard of 16 years old living alone but thought (hoped) it was an outdated practice. It would have been hard not to feel warm to Havana. I hope pp are correct that everything will be ok for her. I’m not so sure. With no secure network of family and a flat that must look attractive to others as a place to hang out, she looked vulnerable. Her social worker seemed grounded and caring but presumably there are many long hours when Havana is alone. She looked to be trying to find herself still and this in itself leaves children vulnerable. It just can’t be right that a 16 year old is living alone. There are so many risks. I was also worried showing her home on tv increased the risk of exploitation or worse.

Changeling78 · 27/05/2023 19:15

I’m going to sound like a complete monster now, but I couldn’t take to Havana at all. I’m obviously wrong as so many people seem to like her. There was just something I can’t put my finger on.
Kanes mum has a good one there, I’m not sure she deserves him but so many women are afraid to leave abusive relationships. She said he was always clean and fed, but those are the basics really.

FearTheWankingDead · 27/05/2023 19:56

I watched it and I thought that those children and young adults were really wonderful. Against all odds they are lovely, positive people.
Xorins mum was sweary and a bit of a stereotype but I feel that really loves her son.

winterchills · 27/05/2023 20:25

Very sad watch for me!

purpleme12 · 27/05/2023 22:15

Why was Kane's dad sent to prison?
Was it for not letting the mum go out the house when they had the disagreement and keeping her phone and keys?
Was he deported back to Africa because he was here illegally?

purpleme12 · 27/05/2023 22:17

Could they not have worked with Kane's mum on leaving the stepdad so he wouldn't be taken into care?
Or maybe they already were?
Or did she not want to leave him maybe?

purpleme12 · 27/05/2023 23:05

Kane had a really good warm relationship with his mum.
If it was because of domestic violence and he was taken when he was 6 which is young, why did he not go back to his mum?
Was she always in that relationship for all those years?

purpleme12 · 27/05/2023 23:06

I wonder what they meant by emotional abuse when they were talking about Havana.

AmyandPhilipfan · 30/05/2023 13:30

Reading between the lines it sounded like the mum was told that the stepdad was not safe around the children and she had to agree to keep them away from him. Then she had another baby and failed to find other childcare and left the kids with him, when she'd already been warned not to do that. It is always quite shocking to me when mothers choose men over their children's safety but it does happen.

And he probably never went home because social services couldn't trust her that she would put her children's safety over men.

Just catching up now, am on episode 2.
