Anyone watching?

Mostly British cast playing Americans

2 episodes in and already several departures from the books I'm unsure about

Not read the books but just watched first ep and loved it.

EineReiseDurchDieZeit · 13/05/2023 16:55

Yay somebody replied!

I'll wait for you to catch up

Yeah I was really excited having enjoyed the books and am just a bit confused now!

EineReiseDurchDieZeit · 13/05/2023 17:02

God, I'm really worried about my short term memory

I can't remember the differences I noted last week!

Yesterday's episode was much more faithful

Loved the Wool trilogy and watched the first episode last night - loved it. Always hoped someone would make it into a (good) TV series - fingers crossed for episode two!

BigPussyEnergy · 13/05/2023 18:53

I’ve started watching and enjoyed it so far. Not read the books. I was a bit annoyed at all the rubbish American accents though. Surely they could have got real Americans to play those parts or just let Geraldine whatserface and Harriet thingamybob speak in their natural accents. It’s so off putting when someone’s accent isn’t quite right.

EineReiseDurchDieZeit · 13/05/2023 19:05

@BigPussyEnergy

There are "reasons" why those characters can't have English accents but I don't want to spoil Smile

I agree that it strange that it is so British actor heavy. Maybe it was filmed here.

Didn’t realise there was a thread! I realised it’s been over 10 years now since I read Wool, and back then it was novellas, and I remember the gist but it’s nice to have the reminders. Really enjoying it so far!

Rocknrollfriend · 14/05/2023 23:10

On episode 3 and really enjoying it. Love the production design. Haven't read it so have no idea where it's going, finding it really intriguing and tense.

Paranoidandroidmarvin · 15/05/2023 07:34

I’m on episode two. I have only read the first book and that was a while ago so don’t remember it too well.

Did read an article where it said the author was in the room when they were writing it. So to me if he is happy with the changes then I am. Not all books relate well being moved to tv. So they do have to change things. Enjoying it so far. Wish the music wasn’t so loud and I did t have to keep Turning it up and down all the time.

youngestisapsycho · 17/05/2023 10:44

I have watched 3 episodes... really like it. I've not read the books.

mizu · 13/06/2023 15:58

I read the books years ago and LOVED them. Didn't know this had been made into a series until yesterday!

I'm now going to have to get a 7 day free trial to watch them all at the end of June.

Really hope they are fabulous.

Faircastle · 14/06/2023 20:02

I read the books when they were first published. I'm enjoying the TV show, although the American accents are variable (Iain Glen's accent is actually distracting).

EineReiseDurchDieZeit · 14/06/2023 20:31

There are some differences but it's overall correct. I think the set is a bit too clean, a bit unbelievable, a bit too obviously a set. The way it's moving I can't see some reveals happening til S2.

OP posts:
ellebelli · 15/06/2023 09:32

Jules accent is very distracting.
I was enjoying it,then got a bit bored but it picked up in the latest episode.

To be honest not really sure what's going on or why

youngestisapsycho · 17/06/2023 22:51

I’m a bit confused by it all… why can’t they have certain things like the magnifier?!

EineReiseDurchDieZeit · 17/06/2023 22:55

Because Scientific Discovery needs to be kept controlled or none existent, hard to explain without massive spoilers

OP posts:
ChristianDadOnline · 17/06/2023 22:55

Loving the series and just started the books!

OldSchoolCasualty · 18/06/2023 04:13

I was so very excited about this, it's one of my absolute favourite book series.
It's good, But I'm not as in love with it as I thought I would be, It's at a much slower pace than the books!

EineReiseDurchDieZeit · 18/06/2023 09:30

Yes and some of the changes have really confused me as to which bit of Wool we are up to. In particular an object hugely relevant to What's Next hasn't been brought up at all

OP posts:
PriamFarrl · 18/06/2023 09:38

I’m really enjoying it. I read the books and remember the wider story but not the details. DH hasn’t read the books and is enjoying it even more. I’m not annoyed about any changes as Hugh Howey approved it all. It’s his story.

It was filmed in the uk, hence the large number of British actors.

FfeminyddCymraeg · 18/06/2023 09:40

I’m really enjoying it but agree with PP about Jules‘ accent.

DH read the books many moons ago and doesn’t seem overly bothered by the departures from the books.

EineReiseDurchDieZeit · 18/06/2023 09:50

The books are fresh for me I only read them a few months ago

OP posts:
ChristianDadOnline · 18/06/2023 13:34

I was shocked at the big giveaway at the start of the books - making me look at the TV program slightly differently!

EineReiseDurchDieZeit · 23/06/2023 17:50

It's deviated the most this week I think. I mean the Sim family aren't even in it. It's quite clear now to the reader how they are ending season 1....
