Anyone watching?

Mostly British cast playing Americans

2 episodes in and already several departures from the books I'm unsure about

Argh I've just realised I've given a potential spoiler to people who haven't finished the season so have reported my post!

EineReiseDurchDieZeit · 04/07/2023 11:43

@ChocBananaSmoothie @ffauxlivia

Officially it is Book 2 of the trilogy not a prequel it's sold as Book 2. Yes the content starts explaining events before Silo, but I have said a couple of times that reading Wool is still important for explanations that weren't in the show

Sorry I got distracted by school run earlier and will try again without spoilering ...

Thanks @EineReiseDurchDieZeit - I haven't read Shift yet but had heard it referred to as a prequel as it deals with events before Wool, but didn't realise it wasn't officially a prequel. But yes agree 100% that PP should read Wool first.

I was just confused because Choc asked which book continues from where the series has ended, and you said Shift, but the series 1 has ended half way through Wool? So I was just clarifying to Choc that the show hasn't covered the whole of the first book yet.

Series 2 has been confirmed 🎉 so I assume that will cover the rest of Wool, but who knows as they have changed quite a bit.

Curious to know what they do after that given that the books jumps around re. timelines. Anyway I have Shift on my bedside table so looking forward to delving into that!

EineReiseDurchDieZeit · 04/07/2023 22:24

You are right Wool does cover more ground I guess they merged in my head

We've just finished this series this week and really enjoyed it.
Think I'm going to have to read the books now.

mrwalkensir · 25/11/2023 16:00

Loving this - isn't Juliette very strong because of her engineering job? And maybe the air outside isn't toxic? Was thinking maybe they gas them in that chamber as they leave...

creamsnugjumper · 29/12/2024 15:53

Oh just started this today, with a free trial on Apple. I'll grab the audio books as well, it's so far great.

BG2015 · 29/12/2024 17:47

Read all the books.

The second series is currently out but going to wait until all the episodes are out so we can binge watch it.

I reckon it's going to steer away from the plot in the books.

bruffin · 29/12/2024 17:54

We loved the first series. It was shocked to find out it was filmed in uk a few miles from us in a converted warehouse and one of my friends rented her granny flat to one of the writers before the writers strike.
Cant wait for second series.

MaggieBsBoat · 29/12/2024 18:00

I loved these books! I am now up to date so I think episode 7/8? In season 2. I think the way they are doing it is far from the sequence of the books but in trying to keep it lateral, and logical it makes sense.
I think its beautifully done.
When the film/TV rights were sold a decade or more ago, Ridley Scott bought them. I was so excited about the potential movies, but now I’m really glad they made a TV show.

mizu · 29/12/2024 19:12

I'm really enjoying season 2 but now wish i had done as someone said on here and waited til all episodes were out!

Loved the books and tempted to read again now.

EineReiseDurchDieZeit · 29/12/2024 20:01

Yes I'm going to wait til they are all out as well

creamsnugjumper · 29/12/2024 20:04

I'm still watching.. binging with my wine, I can't stop now to wait for season 3?

How long am I going to have to wait!!

bruffin · 29/12/2024 20:19

creamsnugjumper · 29/12/2024 20:02

Really what county?

It was filmed in Hoddesdon in Herts

BG2015 · 12/01/2025 19:47

We're watching season 2.

Enjoying it. Last episode is out on Thursday.

creamsnugjumper · 13/01/2025 22:38

I got totally hooked. And can't wait for the last episodes.

Iwishiwasapolarbear · 13/01/2025 22:44

I’m really enjoying it!!

I’ve been baffled by the cleaning thing in s1 though. I know they clean because they think it’s beautiful outside and they want everyone to see it inside. But when they were inside and someone cleaned, nothing changed so why do they think it will when they clean?

i watched episode 9 yesterday and really enjoyed it. I’ve not read the books. I wonder if it’s all some weird experiment with the silos from people in the city in the distance. Because why wouldn’t they just tell them it’s not safe outside - what’s with all the cleaning. Maybe it’s like survival of the silos.

also want to the know where the tunnel goes.

I think it’s a combination of things. Firstly cleanings are really rare - so many have never seen a cleaning and perhaps think the glass is just very very dirty.
Also psychologically, they know they are going to die, so that will mess with their heads - that and the overwhelm of the sudden Technicolor. I think so anyway.

BG2015 · 17/01/2025 17:38

Watched them all now.

Won't say anything until people are ready to chat.

Dror · 17/01/2025 17:45

I loved the books but gave up on the first season after maybe 5 episodes.
I wonder if I should go back to it.

I really liked the descriptions on the books about how the Silo worked and the different sections etc. There was none of that in the series.

I agree, that was missing in the series. I have read them but DHs hasn’t. We have both loved it but he is talking about reading the books once enough time has passed since watching the series.

Also, if you have a Kobo e-reader they are available from the library to download for free.

Have binged with my Radio Times one month free voucher! Got hooked, but blimey o’riley I didnt see that one coming. 😦

BG2015 · 17/01/2025 20:37

I've read the books.

The series is different but I'm enjoying it.

DP hasn't read any of the books.

PriamFarrl · 18/01/2025 14:01

I finished it last night. Oooh that ending.

MaggieBsBoat · 18/01/2025 14:25

I love how they’ve changed up the sequence a bit from the books.
I’ve been discussing with DH, who hasn’t read them, and it’s so hard to not give spoilers, especially after the last few minutes of that season finale. He, and I think quite a lot of others, was quite off the mark when it comes to guessing what next. Despite being a sci-fi nerd. Loved it!
