Thanks Pebble. I'm predicting a lot more plant-based dishes, above average levels of foraging and an influx of matcha and kimchi.

(And plenty of dead grandmothers, my life on a plate and raw lamb!)

viques · 09/04/2023 12:32

What I am hoping for: plant based food, though if the contestants have any sense they would know by now that plant based doesn’t pass the muster, or the mustard if you must.

Beards, nannas, a bearded nanna would be interesting, probably a bit of wokery as people bravely find their authentic selves through the medium of dance cooking, foraging, uncooked food especially lamb, disappointing fondants, both potato and chocolate.

I am really hoping for some exotic presentation, food served on mossy slates, splintered fence panels, sea shells, paper bags, wooden boxes, milk cartons etc. I think this is an area Masterchef has largely bypassed and I think it needs to be seen.

I suspect that we may see more Great British Menu style presentation too. It was creeping into the last few series.

Umanresources · 09/04/2023 14:17

Oh now I’m looking forward to this. I might do a bingo card for daughter and me with those things mentioned. Then a drink if we cross them off. Shots for each one would have us rolling by the end of an episode surely. It does always seem to be nannas as well, not usually grandmas, I wonder why?

Pebbledashery · 09/04/2023 14:18

I would bet my life on an Italian nonna coming up too

Ooh yes, with gnocchi or pasta recipe. Also wanting to make family proud/show children you can achieve anything/have to believe in myself more 😄

MyBeloved · 09/04/2023 14:28

Checking in! I'm predicting dry ice and crickets. Not necessarily together.

ChicoryDip · 09/04/2023 14:30

@Umanresources You also need a contestant bingo card...

  • Big city accountant or lawyer looking for a change of direction
  • Good old 'home cook' with a grown up family
  • Young, attractive female who Gregg makes unattractive faces at
  • Student cook
  • Ex-rugby player with gigantic portions of 'rustic' looking food
  • Long-haired forager
  • Contestant who lives near the sea and talks constantly about using local produce
  • 'Been travelling' and wants to show off mostly SE Asian recipes they picked up on the way
MyBeloved · 09/04/2023 14:35

Bingo card is a great idea.

Can we add 'emotional backstory' to the list?

Songlines · 09/04/2023 14:40

Could I join please? I've lurked before 😀

TheDogsMother · 09/04/2023 16:08

There will be fermented things and a Nonna before the first episode is over. Not a fermented Nonna obvs

GMOOH2023 · 09/04/2023 16:44

I got some cream from the pharmacist for my fermented nonna 😉

I made a paste out of fermented samphire for mine, worked a treat.

Welcome Songlines.

Just to make sure you are not a bot please answer the following questions truthfully.

how do you pronounce the word pasta? Pasta or parstaa.

would you rescue Gregggg from a burning building? Yes /no/ here are your matches I didn’t need them all.

would you serve a deconstructed crumble to your nanna? Yes/no/only if I could hide it under custard/

JamonEverybody · 09/04/2023 17:04

Fuck yeah! I'm checking in.

Bingo card for this year?

Pebbledashery · 09/04/2023 17:09

Lots of deconstruction I imagine also 😅. I never forget the series someone did deconstructed fish and chips.. I'd be royally cheesed off if that was served to me.

I hate it when they have to feature their hero or someone very important to them and it's their muuuuum

Pebbledashery · 09/04/2023 17:11

And Dave from Essex with his Pan Asian/ Italian fusion food 😂

Theeyeballsinthesky · 09/04/2023 17:13

I’m expecting meadowsweet to make the transfer over from GBM. Also expecting beardy very tattooed large bloke with leather apron who “cooks with fire” & brings in their own industrial bbq & huge tongs for their signature dish.

CarlaH · 09/04/2023 17:17

They will all or nearly all be proud of themselves for whatever they have done even if they are kicked out early.

PollyThePixie · 09/04/2023 17:22

I’m expecting a contestant with a disability.

What did this look like? I can't imagine there's much to deconstruct 😂 was there just a pile of batter bits beside the fish? Xx

Yep, the dead mum/Nona/dad round.

Or a trans one.

I didn’t want to say but yes, I think there very well could be.
