Race Across The World - Series 3

LindorDoubleChoc · 14/03/2023 20:51

This starts Wednesday week on BBC1 (22 March).

Anyone want to join me on a thread about it? I saw some episodes of the previous two series but didn't watch them all and am kicking myself about it now because it really is such an interesting and beautifully shot reality series.

So am going to watch the whole of the next one - this time in Canada!

I was wondering that too I'd imagine the bike hire place had lockers

Jellykat · 03/05/2023 21:55

Poor Claudia

EineReiseDurchDieZeit · 03/05/2023 21:56

Very happy that it's basically between those 2 teams

EineReiseDurchDieZeit · 03/05/2023 21:56

But yes, poor Claudia

afterdropshock · 03/05/2023 21:59

So what is the lead that the first team have? Were we told?

Mademetoxic · 03/05/2023 22:02

I really warmed to Kevin in the last leg. He kept morals up for Claudia when she was close to breaking point, and seemed to genuinely enjoy spending time with her.

burnoutbabe · 03/05/2023 22:02

I think it staid the sane. So 11 hours?

The first people checked in around 19.45 I think but I imagine the others arrived around 11/12 next day (but hard to tell!)

EineReiseDurchDieZeit · 03/05/2023 22:02

So looking at the book just then Ladi and Monique are 5 hours behind Tricia and Kathie who can only be 2 hours behind Zay and Mo because they lost most of their 12 hour lead when they had to wait for a 9am bus

This may be inaccurate

afterdropshock · 03/05/2023 22:05

Thanks. It wasn't clear, was it. Any of the three teams could win as the first team have the least money and the last team have the most.
Yes I loved K+C in that leg too.
And I still would prefer Monique to win, followed by the ladies.

TeamSleep · 03/05/2023 22:16

It’s such a shame for Claudia and Kevin, but they bowed out graciously and without blaming each other which I thought was lovely. The lady who helped them out on their last day was wonderful.

Cathie seemed very cranky on this leg after seemingly being the nicest and most patient person ever up until this point, she must be exhausted. They seem to think they have a great budget left over for the final leg but I don’t think it’s as much as the other two teams.

Ladi and Monique must have a lot more trouble getting lifts than is shown on camera because I always thought they were the best team at managing to get free lifts, along with Zainab and Mobeen. I think Ladi and Moneen’s cheerfulness goes a long way to making people want to help them.

QuietlyConfident · 03/05/2023 22:17

I'd be more than happy for any of the remaining teams to win. They've all had wonderful experiences. I think perhaps it would mean the most to the friends to take the win and I'm guessing that Zainib and Mobeen don't really need the money, but would cheer for any of them.

Justmuddlingalong · 03/05/2023 22:23

I'm bored of the "old ladies" comments from the friends.
I agree they must all be exhausted, but being late 40s doesn't give you the monopoly on it.

I just checked back on iPlayer. Trish and Cathie are 4hrs ahead of Ladi and Monique but Zainib and Mobeen are 12hrs ahead of Trish and Cathie - but they have less money. Ladi and Monique have the most money of the three teams. It really could go any way next week, can’t wait!

burnoutbabe · 03/05/2023 22:25

I suppose if the 2 women get refused lifts they would more shrug rather than wonder if it's racism. Though I imagine "Zara" etc hace the sane issue.

Though with a camera crew there you'd imagine people would be abit more likely to help to show they are not racist. Whereas no such incentive to do that for the women (for drivers who just can't be arsed to give lifts)

EineReiseDurchDieZeit · 03/05/2023 22:25

@TeamSleep

Cheers, I didn't spot the time for Z & M and hazarded a guess

It could have been so different for Kevin and Claudia if they hadn’t spent so much on taxis earlier in the race. And that ridiculously expensive hotel room last week.

NCTDN · 03/05/2023 22:29

I think it's anyone's game and I keep changing my mind over who I want to win!
I do wonder if any of them are on here at all?Grin

Stressybetty · 03/05/2023 22:52

Felt for Claudia too, they both looked so exhausted, hope their relationship is improved.

Mademetoxic · 03/05/2023 23:08

Bit sneaky that the production team let Z&M leave at 11pm with no available transport until the next morning.

I've seen it go that way on a similar show. It's just the luck of the draw really. They might have been able to get a lift but I wouldn't want to hitchhike late either. You also have to keep in mind the massive challenge facing camera and production

& forking out for another hotel, they should have gone to see if they could have had their old room back at the previous hotel.

But I'm guessing that might not have been allowed for some reason?

BeaLola · 03/05/2023 23:39

I was thinking re departure at 11pm that perhaps they leave at the same time they arrived ? So after all the teams reach the checkpoint they spend x time all there and then they leave at time they arrived -would account for 11pm random departure time ?

Also - and forgive me I may have misunderstood but Zaibab and H then stayed centrally and paid £58 or so for a room but when Kevin and D couldn't get seats on bus they stayed further away on grounds cheaper but spent £158 on a room - that £100 could have made the difference (along with all the earlier expensive taxi rides).

BeaLola · 03/05/2023 23:41

Also bugging me tonight having just watched who pays for the "sightseeing trips" - they can't be that cheap surely

Love that there were so few seats on a bus but the camera crew always get on

Stopovers are 36 hours, so if you arrive at 2pm you set off at 2am the day after next.
