series 4 will focus on the death of young mum Beth Metcalf, who appears to have been killed in a targeted attack.

Jenn Townsend is called to help bereft husband Dean, who is struggling to hold it together with four children to look after.

And as Jenn, Manning, and the team dig into the case, "they discover secrets and lies lurk beneath every surface".

ITV drama boss Polly Hill said: "I'm delighted that we will be returning to Morecambe for another series of The Bay. Marsha Thomason delivered a brilliant performance as DS Jenn Townsend, and it will be exciting to see where Daragh takes her character in series 4.

Marsha Thomason will return as family liaison officer DS Jenn Townsend for The Bay series 4 in 2023 with familiar faces from Morecambe CID also back in the cast.
In series 4 we’ve been promised another story filled with twists and turns, all set once more on the dramatic and glorious coastline of north-west England.

Written by Daragh Carville (Being Human, Cherrybomb), the police drama first aired in 2019, when Morven Christie (www.bt.com/tv/drama/morven-christie-in-spotlight-the-bay-grantchester-the-a-word) led the cast as DC Lisa Armstrong.

Finally watched first episode. He doesn’t seem like the grieving husband - at the end. I don’t think it’s him though as he knew they were home as the daughter was unwell. So on balance of probabilities I’d say older daughter Izzy (I think her name is) or her on/off boyfriend.

My take: I don’t think Dean is responsible - I think he’s typical of a certain type of man who leaves all the family stuff to the wife and is emotionally closed off and always angry. (But I could be wrong obviously, we’ll see how it pans out).

It's not the hubby I don't think, he went a bit mad and at the end of that episode smashed stuff up, he has money troubles by looks of it! I wonder if it's something to do with the guy with the car that picked up the girl from school, he seemed to have money talk of moving to London, buying another car...maybe he is involved. That or a bad crowd the teenage daughter fell in with...

I quite like this. Can't understand the bullying story though, why is that awful boy getting away with it and why doesn't she tell someone. Spitting on someone and sending abusive images is pretty clear cut isn't it.

I like Jen, she's professional but connects to people too. Well, except her kids who she really should make a bit of time for.

I'm enjoying it, or at least I think I am, but the bullying storyline and the domestic strife with the children and the exs is making me a bit uncomfortable, particularly the bullying.

I think in the last series Boss Cop's wife left him for another man and now she's seeing Boss Cop again secretly. Not very secretly though if they're out and about in the town, as spotted by Jen!
