2023’s final trilogy of films will find Endeavour and Thursday entering a new era of change both professionally and personally.

Set in the spring of 1972, the final season’s opening episode is directed by none other than Endeavour star Shaun Evans.

The synopsis for the story reads: “Two unexplained deaths turn up ties to the Oxford Concert Orchestra, while a body discovered in a derelict warehouse stokes fears that ‘London business’ has yet again found its way to Oxford.

“Thursday and Endeavour’s investigation unearths some unsettling connections to cases the duo believed were well and truly behind them.”

I've never watched a single episode till tonight but even I found it poignant!! and I definitely don't understand the gun in graveyard bit, thought it was just me!

Crumpetdisappointment · 12/03/2023 22:12

I thought the gun went off by mistake and shot his knee, remember morse had a slight limp

AutisticLegoLover · 12/03/2023 22:12

I guess we will never know seeing as Sam doesn't feature in Morse and Thursday is never mentioned. It did seem odd and most lines mean something in endeavour so it seems strange for it not to. I don't recall Morse ever using a gun.

Forestdweller11 · 12/03/2023 22:13

The gun was russian roulette. A follow on from the depression, drinking, disappointment, loneliness etc . Sam went off to the new house. He seemed to have straightened himself out somewhat after the wedding. Can see Morse shooting him.

Clawdy · 12/03/2023 22:13

No way would he have killed Sam. Russian Roulette seems far more likely.
Loved that last episode, so moving.

GuyFawkesDay · 12/03/2023 22:13

Oh Anton Lesser is just such a class act. Love the poetry. And faure requiem.

Beautifully done.

thecatsthecats · 12/03/2023 22:13

Morse wouldn't shoot an innocent man to cover up what Thursday did! At the very least he'd leave the bikers to catch up with him, or not.

I called it about Thursday ending up in disgrace in the other thread!

JaneJeffer · 12/03/2023 22:14

I think they did it to mess with our heads Grin

Bet the first ever episode has Morae driving into Blenheim

No it doesn't... He's at a garage trying to get his jaguar fixed...

He deliberately loaded it though.

Indeed

thefemaleJoshLyman · 12/03/2023 22:14

Just a fantastic ending. Shaun Evans is amazing, I was sobbing during the pub scene with Thursday and at the car.

Crumpetdisappointment · 12/03/2023 22:16

Emotional seeing John thaw

Forestdweller11 · 12/03/2023 22:16

Oh yes, the poem, Bright sat by his wife's grace.

dropthevipers · 12/03/2023 22:17

I must be a bit thick thick but what happened to the bent copper at the Vale site? Do we assume the bikers did for him?

CaptainMyCaptain · 12/03/2023 22:17

Loved the Anton Lesser bit at the end. Am slightly drunk and will have to listen again but it sounded quite Shakesperian as if saying they were all just actors playing parts.

From the Tempest. And the other bit ‘old man’ is Hal to Falstaff

AutisticLegoLover · 12/03/2023 22:19

What was the poem?
All very beautifully done even if I have added 2+2 to equal 5 about the gunBlush

Couldn't place it but knew it sounded like Shakespeare.

KrasiTime · 12/03/2023 22:20

The gun is certainly confusing.

JaneJeffer · 12/03/2023 22:20

Or an ikea ad? Grin
