Just wanted to start a thread about 'this country' as I honestly find it so hilarious and some episodes make me cry laugh every time!! Kerry and Curtan I love you!! I hardly know anyone else that watches it but IMO it's a gem of British comedy. Not to everyone's taste I understand but definately my sense of humour.

Favourite episodes anyone ?

Mine is probably the one where they are waiting for the vicar at the train station and they get into an arguement and curtan throws Kerry's shoe onto the train just as the doors close 😂😂

It's so so funny. Really underrated imo

Kerry’s random act of kindness 😆

I went for a stroll around the village where it's filmed last year. Saw the bus stop, village hall, the pub, Kerry's house, Mandy's house, the park and best of all......Len's lockup!

It was one of the best days of my life! 😂

I love the whole ‘What does the T in BLT stand for?’ bit. I can’t say ‘tomatoes’ normally any more…

Love it. So well observed. The Vicar's Christian rock band 'Nice Guys' is right on the mark and superbly niche, I feel like DMC must have been at Greenbelt in the 80s - although she is too young for that.

Love it. To -maat - toees! 🤣 I'm from Gloucestershire so recognise the locations etc.

DorritLittle · 11/02/2023 18:16

Hilarious. I am from round there too and it is so recognisable.

EmmaC78 · 11/02/2023 18:21

I love it too. I love Mandy at the book club and the threatening letters episode.

MissBattleaxe · 11/02/2023 18:25

The one where Kerry gets dirty letters and when she threatens the man who sent them he "gets a stonk in."

stillavid · 11/02/2023 18:29

I love it!

So who do we think played Kurtan's grandmother - there was speculation it was a v famous actress.

hothands · 11/02/2023 18:31

'Her only loyalties are to herself, staffies and the tv channel Dave'.
Mandy reciting Hairy McClary at Kerry and Kurtan and Kerry saying her 'fight or flight had kicked in'.
June's parsnips pubes.
Kerry's dad being a peeper.

Brilliantly understated though I do think it helps if you've either lived rurally or in the south west (I grew up at the other end of the country in a very urban location and when I moved south and west it took me a while to get the humour).

Yes, I grew up very rurally and nothing else I've watched has quite caught what its like - the emptiness, the boredom, the old people (!), the church as the social centre for lack of anything better.

I highly recommend the audiobook of This Is This Country, the book that goes with the series, narrated by Daisy and Charlie. There's a whole section about Sue which made me bust my guts laughing :)

I love Mandy but my favourite is probably Len "I can't share my house with a malevolent bird'.
