Has anyone else been watching today? I've watched 4 episodes so far. Dated, but loving it

Yes very good I can't remember which episode but one of them was written by Kay Mellor which just shows the quality of the writing.

I was watching as I watch Hollyoaks and years ago watched Brookside .
So I sort of knew the Brookside characters.

Did it work if you hadn't been following Hollyoaks ?

I haven’t got a clue about Hollyoaks so was totally confused.
I was really looking forward to it but really disappointed. It just felt like characters were shoehorned in, esp Bobby. And I thought that Shelia’s acting was awful and I’ve never thought that about Sue Johnston before.

There were some in-jokes, maybe more were lost on me. One joke about "less said about the patio, the better" and a guy getting jn Sinbads character going from Brookside to Hollyoaks said "my life goes from one drama to another" so I am guessing he has been in several Soaps but I dont know who he is to check.

Tinhead introduced himself as Tim so I guess he's grown up.

It can't be done justice in under 1 hour. At least CorrieDale will be on existing storylines.

Sinbad has been in Corrie .

I think the one getting the taxi was Phil Redmond who’s the writer for brookside and also hollyoaks I think.
Tinhead looked the same age!

I never realized that Brookside was started before Eastenders.

I did yes I haven't seen HolllyOakes in years so have no clue about the storyline, s but I'm intrigued about the close ,why are Billy and Sheila living there they moved away in 1990 and why did they give Mick Johnson, s daughter a home?
Mick only came into Brookside in 1989 and Billy and Sheila left in 1990 so they can't have known him that well????
Loving the fact Barry Grant is still in it and doesn't appear to have settled down he must be well unto his 60,s now!

I rewatched the first episode today just for a bit of tv nostalgia.

Something I realised was that out of the Collins family, Gordon is the only one still alive in real life. The actress who played Lucy died in 2002. Annabelle Collins died in 1990 and Paul Collins in 1999.

The Grant family actors are all still alive, sorry bit of trivia there..

The sad thing is that the current episodes were filmed only a few months before Doreen Sloane passed away she's not been in it for a,while apart from one episode presumably because she was having treatment for cancer IRL at that point.

I wonder if the Collins family were written out because of her death ?

They were.

I was watching this week’s and thinking about Doreen Sloane. When it was originally aired no one knew she was ill, but it’s interesting (& sad) to watch it now knowing that she was going through all sorts of treatment.

I watched the Hollyoaks crossover the other week ( even though I dont watch Hollyoaks and have no idea what's going on)
It did amuse me that Barry is portrayed aa a womaniser and get ,s told off by his mum
Even though he must be pushing 70 now!

Been watching again some of the first episodes. It’s so long ago , yet some things in life are quite similar today. The same problems , jobs, cost of living etc.Even though it’s 43 years ago!
Yet the same amount of time has passed since WW2 and the early 1980s to the 1980s and now.

Sorry for the late reply here but the houses in Brookside in 1982 sold for £25k! Phil Redmond brought them especially from the developers- real housing estates were being built at the time .
