Has anyone else been watching today? I've watched 4 episodes so far. Dated, but loving it

I remember the storyline too (I would have been 21 and at uni), but watching it now, it seems much worse.

Paul2023 · 14/07/2024 08:11

Is it still 1986 then?

Makingupfactstosuitmyagenda · 14/07/2024 13:45

Is it just me or were they all a bit blase about Therese’s death?

bigTillyMint · 14/07/2024 13:50

Yes, although I vaguely remembered it from the first time, it did seem to be underplayed. Maybe because she wasn’t a main character?

Snozzlemaid · 16/07/2024 14:41

Just watched episode 386, what horrific examples of men in that episode!

Bbq1 · 16/07/2024 14:53

I did extra work on Brookside and Holkyoaks. Got to sit in the hairdressers on one occasion and to walk down the close another time!

Bingowingo · 17/07/2024 23:15

Was Doreen’s sensitivity and understanding re Shelia’s rape based on her character’s own personal experience do you think?

I did feel as a programme that wasn’t afraid to confront difficult issues, and given how hard hitting the rape storyline was, it was wound up and moved on quite quickly in the episodes this week (binge watched)!

NCTDN · 18/07/2024 08:35

I think the storylines move in quicker as well because time moved on more - there were only two or three half hour episodes a week.

Yes, I think we’re still at the time when it was only on twice a week.

Clothes parties ! Remember the days !

VanillaImpulse · 21/07/2024 10:24

I'm loving all the silky blouses going on at the moment in 1986 brookie! I had a turquoise one fairly similar to Annabelle's interview outfit from Tammy Girl. Think it had a built in gold brooch on the collar with little gold chains joining them if that makes sense!! I loved it 😊

NCTDN · 24/07/2024 23:12

Prepare your eyes for this week's episodes of Pats <ahem> attire.
Can't imagine you'd see that these days !

My brother's gf had one from the Next directory (which in itself was something of an amazement). I thought she was so sophisticated Grin

It was eye opening !
So I started watching this when they first started streaming the episodes ,for Various reasons I got so far behind and missed a couple of years as I ,decided to watch it again from around the time the corkhills moved in
I ,m confused about the ages of Lucy and Gordon ,at the beginning Lucy was supposed to be around the same age as Karen and Gordon around the same age as Damon
I know the actors have changed but why do they now look and act as though they are both in their mid 20,s ?

NCTDN · 25/07/2024 08:50

You've got me thinking! According to the ever so reliable Wikipedia, Gordon and Damon were 14 in 1982. Karen was 16. There's no info on Lucy.
I always thought that Gordon was older than Lucy! Damon definitely seems younger. Maybe it's the France effect that ages them?

Makingupfactstosuitmyagenda · 25/07/2024 14:53

I am trying hard to remember if Lucy was starting her A levels when they arrived. Wasn’t the story that Gordon was about to do his o levels and he was a boy, so that was why he stayed at his private school and Lucy didn’t. So that was 1982 making Lucy 17 and Gordon 15. Are they now in 86? So Lucy is 21 and Gordon 19? And yes, Lucy was the same age as Karen.

I think she was just about to sit her Olevels and Karen was sitting her CSE,s but she was planning on doing Alevels so yes she would 16 nearly 17
Gordon looks and acts more like 30 than 18/19!
Whereas as Damon ,s just a daft lovable lad.

VanillaImpulse · 25/07/2024 23:34

That scene with Pat in the football club bath!!! Shock If that camera had panned much lower there would've been nothing left to the imagination 🤣

I know 🍆🤣

bigTillyMint · 26/07/2024 16:42

👀 🤣

VanillaImpulse · 26/07/2024 23:21

I'm sure there was a similar bath scene with Heather's first husband a while back!

bigTillyMint · 27/07/2024 11:24

There were definitely a few bed scenes with him!

Lalgarh · 28/07/2024 14:15

Channel 5 clip show (about the most shocking TV from 1986) had a section on the Sheila Grant rape storyline last night

x2boys · 31/07/2024 21:52

I'm enjoying the current d storyline line of Nick and Heather ,I remembered the outcome from the first time around ,but can see how shocking it must have been I know drug addiction waa a big thing at the time particularly in Liverpool but you just wouldn't think it could happen to a middle aged ,middle class man.

Makingupfactstosuitmyagenda · 05/08/2024 10:51

Just catching up and feeling like I’ve been transported back. The reference to preparing for the ‘new’ exams - I was first year to take them! The views on homosexuality and living together! Brings it all back. I’ve been puzzling over Nick and Heather - I thought maybe he was in a gay relationship with the other bloke and wondered if he had AIDs. Sounds like I am wrong!
