Seems a weird way to split them up though. They could have been torn apart by the whole Groping Greg thing - but instead that was seemingly finished off in a couple of scenes, before Marcus decides Ethan (who he wanted to buy a house with five minutes ago) is as boring as unbuttered toast and that he’d rather shag an annoying camp extra instead.

Exactly! Maybe the actor decided he didn't want to do it! Or maybe he'll make a come-back.....

I also suspected Marcus to be dodgy. When Ethan was defending that racist and then got beaten up by him I thought there was a lot of inference to Marcus knowing the racist and/or being involved in some extremist group. But it may have just been his dodgy acting that led me to believe it.

He was always a bit shifty looking. I wonder why he decided to leave just when he was given a story?

Certainly an odd character and odd entrance and exit. Came into it as Pierce's son and all the stuff with Rhona then the odd dodgy inference, then the whole Greg thing that went nowhere and finally randomly cheats on Ethan and doesn't even try to save the relationship, just accused him of being boring.

Typical of this era of Emmerdale - introduce someone connected to somebody else and have a story that makes no difference to anything in the long term but helps fill a few episodes - Ben for example. I dread to think what the Caleb story is going to turn into.

Oh god, yes Ben was insufferable. I didn't mind one bit that he was murdered. Zero chemistry whatsoever with Aaron.

I reckon Caleb might end up running the B&B when Bob and Bernice make a complete pig's ear of it 🤣
