Anything like Happy Valley?

Hi, I am in middle of Happy Valley, currently binge watching season 2, due to reading recommendations on here. I love it! It is harrowing and heartbreaking and Sarah Lancashire is superb.
However, the actress playing the teaching the teaching assistant Frances - moaning Myrtle - her voice is sooooo annoying, and somewhat spoiling it a little for me, lol. The whispering!!! But it's a great TV series with great acting.
I've watched and enjoyed Line of Duty, The Missing and Baptiste (with a weird crush on Baptise!!). Watched the recent one on 4OD with Vicky McClure in which was good and also the Devil's Hour with Jessica Raine and Peter Capaldi which I liked but I no longer have Amazon Prime so can't watch anything on there anymore.
I also watched one on channel 5 with the same actress as Frances - Girl Across The Street which was ok. I love psychological and crime series.
Watched the Rig on Prime but couldn't finish as was shit!
I know there have been other threads on here of a similar nature but wanted to find out if there is anything else around atm which I may enjoy??

I really struggled with The Fall. It was too full of awful sexual violence towards young women. It's truly horrific in places. And then ridiculously implausible in others.

The reason why I like Unforgotten more than almost anything (and it should go to the top of your list) is that it's so sensitively handled and never gratuitous. The crimes are hinted at and sometimes described but never properly shown. Not all victims are young women. For me it's Nicola Walker's finest role and frankly she can't do wrong in anything so quite the accolade.

Mare of Eastown is very good too.

If you like gritty and Vicky McClure, what about This is England. It's brilliant.

We're watching Big Sky on Disney +.

It's so well written and although dark at times, still very watchable.

Whitechapel , it's very "suspend belief" as theres lots of reference to Jack the Ripper .
Rupert Penry Jones character is very unlikeable but you warm to him.
And Steve Pemberton, what's not to like Grin

Have you seen The Victim? It's a mini-series with only 4 episodes, but it's AMAZING!!! Very similar in feel to Happy Valley.

Sorry it's actually BBC iplayer.

It is also on ITVX but only if you have premium

XelaM · 03/04/2023 09:14

You can also purchase it on Prime if it's no longer on iplayer

on a completely different note, I started watching "The Grantchester" to get my James Norton fix and I'm surprised by how much I like it. It's also a crime series but very different in feel to "Happy Valley" and James Norton plays a priest (so very far removed from his Tommy Lee Royce days 😂) but he's SO good in it and very hot 😍
