Can't decide if I like the new series or not.

@amprev have to say that sadly I agree. I love Waterloo road and watched all the old series back recently. The acting was good at the start, but got worse (as did the plots) as they progressed. I'll continue to watch the new series, but it does feel a CBBC programme rather than for adults! There is always so much going on in schools , they could have some really gritty storylines. Some of the plots are really silly.

Yes! You’re right - it is like a CBBC programme. It also has Matilda vibes, with actors clearly older than teenagers with school ties at jaunty angles and bunches. I feel like even die hard Waterloo Road fans think this is poorly made. You’re right about secondary schools being a fertile ground for some really good storylines too - wasted opportunity. I bet secondary school teachers are rolling their eyes at a lot of this.m

I've just watched the first two episodes of the new season.
I loved the old Waterloo road but we're the first ones In Rochdale? I don't remember anything about Scotland?

Meredusoleil · 19/01/2023 21:19

Is it just me, or is every episode of the new series thoroughly depressing with one miserable storyline after another? I mean, I spent nearly the whole hour on the verge of tears last night 😔

They moved to Scotland for the last few series.

Anyone else with steam train nutters in the family? I can't see that logo without think of the Great Western Railway.

NCTDN · 29/01/2023 08:43

What episode is this thread up to?

Meredusoleil · 16/02/2023 09:52

Just wanted to check that the new series is already finished, after only 7 episodes?

Sharpkat · 16/02/2023 19:29

@Meredusoleil Yes, 7 episodes. And it would seem there is no one here for me to talk about it with. Sad

I'm around. Disappointed with the ending for Danny. Why didn't he just tell everyone the truth, that it was just self-defense and Vinny was trying to kill him? Ffs 😬

Sharpkat · 16/02/2023 19:51

I was really disappointed with the ending for Danny. I did shed a few tears for the last 10 minutes though. It is powerful watching.

Still prefer the older ones with Grantley though.

So do I

This didn't hold my attention in the same way

I cried too (doesn't take a lot!). DH says it's all very contrived but I enjoyed the series.

Meredusoleil · 18/02/2023 07:09

Also didn't like the way both Coral and Kim quit so easily. Although I suppose it's reflective of the current state of education in the UK!

MillicentTrilbyHiggins · 18/02/2023 22:33

I've just caught up with the last 3 episodes. I cried for Danny. Poor kid.

But other than that, I don't really care about any of the characters. I barely remember their names. I went from "omg waterloo road is back, how can I stop myself binge watching it" to "oh...I forgot WR was on."

If they make another series I'll watch, but only because I loved the originals so much and I'm hoping I'll learn to love this one.

Totallyaddictedtoshoes · 16/05/2023 14:38

Starts again tonight, I've just seen. Series 12 and will be a further 7 episodes

Thanks for the heads up!

Gothambutnotahamster · 16/05/2023 18:12

Brill, thanks!

MillicentTrilbyHiggins · 16/05/2023 18:38

I wasn't in love with the last series, yet I'm still excited it's back!

VioletCharlotte · 16/05/2023 19:53

I see Andrew Trenneman is back. Not sure if it's just for one episode though or for the whole series. I hope it's better than the last series.

Same! It’s so bad, it’s good.

Meredusoleil · 16/05/2023 21:03

I'm so pissed off at the Danny Lewis storyline. How messed up can you get!

woodhill · 16/05/2023 21:14

I prefer the original series

This is just annoying
