Can't decide if I like the new series or not.

I fancy watching this as there's not a single other thing to watch at the minute that I'm interested in. Question is do I need to watch all the series or is it a different story line/characters and can I just start with the new one?

If you watch the first couple of seasons you'll get to know Kim, Donte and Chlo at least. It's not necessary though, only if you're at a loose end. You can pretty much pick it up anywhere.

What's Mika's actor doing these days I wonder?

Goingforplatinum · 10/01/2023 19:45

Wonder if we will find out what happened to Kim's baby tonight?

Where's mica or Dante's dad at the funeral

At least Janeece has turned up

Even it isn't the same actors

MillicentTrilbyHiggins · 10/01/2023 20:37

I've already watched episodes 1-3 but am rewatching live as well. Sobbing so much again

Mica and Dantes Dad should be there. Chlo's Dad isn't there either. I don't remember him dying in the originals, so not sure if I've forgotten or if he just hasn't come.

I think Janeece is the same actor.

WGACA · 10/01/2023 20:39

There’s only 1 Janeece 😜

woodhill · 10/01/2023 20:40

Yes Janeece looks very different but same voice

MillicentTrilbyHiggins · 10/01/2023 20:47

It's the same actor (Chelsee Healey). Sadly she's had so much work done she's unrecognisable

woodhill · 10/01/2023 20:49

She looked much nicer before

Goingforplatinum · 10/01/2023 20:49

Do you think the women at the front in the church was supposed to be mikado, the one that took dantes daughter into the church

I just rewatched that bit to see. No i don't think that could be Mika. She looked way too old.

Meredusoleil · 10/01/2023 21:15

What was all that stuff Janeece was saying about Bryant or whatever his name was? Wasn't he the old git teacher at the school when she, Donte and Chlo were kids?!?

MillicentTrilbyHiggins · 10/01/2023 21:20

Bryant was/is Janeece's surname.

She mentioned Grantley Budgen. He was a miserable old teacher who I loved by the end. I cried my eyes out when he died.

Oh yes! Grantley Budgen. Was was she saying about him? Did he die? Must have forgotten, it was so long ago now 🤦

MillicentTrilbyHiggins · 10/01/2023 21:36

Yes he died mid assembly in Scotland IIRC. Him and his wife ran the boarding house there.

Janeece said something about how bad Dante's writing was and what Budgen would say about it. Or words to that effect.

woodhill · 10/01/2023 21:55

Grantley was a brilliant character

I like the old series better tbh

I think I meant that they could have substituted Mica and Dante's dad if they couldn't get the original actors rather than airbrush them out

Soaps always do this

I realised that after I replied! Sorry.

Or they could have at least mentioned them "Aunt Mika is so sad she couldn't come, but she couldn't get a flight from [wherever] in time" kind of thing.

woodhill · 10/01/2023 22:07

No worries😀

Yes definitely, feels like lazy writing to me especially when they were significant characters

That was my bugbear with the original show. Characters disappeared and were never referred to again. Tom C lived in the Granger house afterwards but the girls existence was obliterated

XanaduKira · 10/01/2023 22:08

That was my bugbear with the original show too @woodhill - so many characters just disappeared and were never mentioned again, not even in passing comment.

MillicentTrilbyHiggins · 10/01/2023 22:20

Yes that's true tbh. It always annoyed me that when they moved to Scotland they're was a Young lad killed on the journey up there. I can't remember his name, he was a Kelly. His sister Sam(bucca) died of a brain tumor(?). His mum Rose, the dinner lady, had dated Tom.
Anyway, he died yet none of his family came to the funeral. I think they might have said "Rose really wanted to come' but that was all.

In terms of the new series I really hate the English (?) Teacher. I hated her in corrie, so it seems I just don't like the actor. Or I hated her in Corrie so am biased against her now. Not sure which.

Fiddlersgreen · 12/01/2023 20:34

@MillicentTrilbyHiggins I think it’s because both her characters (in Corrie and Waterloo road) are a bit sly and nasty so it makes you feel like you don’t like the actress herself. Hopefully she’s just a really good actress!

Fiddlersgreen · 12/01/2023 20:35

Actually I think she played the same type of character in Hollyoaks too

Goingforplatinum · 12/01/2023 21:16

I'm the same with violet buckle In call the midwife after watching good night Mr Tom.

I'm new to Waterloo Road, having never watched the old ones but am finding the acting so bad that it's bordering on unwatchable. It's more like a 2pm, bbc2 quality to me than a prime time programme. It has come recommended to me by friends who used to love it but I can't stop cringing at the clichés, poor scripting and massive over-acting.
