Just asking as I started watching thinking back to the early days, and within minutes found the new version so ridiculous, nearly burst out laughing.

Or maybe it is just me stuck in the past.

I'm watching part 2 on IPlayer. I used to love it but it's so ridiculous now.

HippyChickMama · 17/01/2023 21:46

@Wishimaywishimight we sing along too but we make up our own words, we sing 'test out horsey legs' 😂

illiterato · 17/01/2023 21:49

omg- farcical. I half expected the perp to say “ I would have got away with it if it wasn’t for you meddling kids”. There are just too many personal subplots so you don’t even get into the case now. I literally didn’t care who’d done it. Also Nicky and Jack have no police powers so why are they constantly being the police??

StrychnineInTheSandwiches · 17/01/2023 21:52

WHYYYYYYY is this programme still being made? They need to stick a stake through its heart. And the same for Casualty too.

Weefreetiffany · 17/01/2023 22:11

Uff just high strung, harrowing and miserable. I used to watch it and find it all so fascinating and now it oscillates between horror situations and moral chats. Not watching next week, the world is miserable enough right now

We just sort of screech along with the music (anyone remember Phoebe in Friends 'singing' along to bagpipes?) - usually it's the most entertaining (to us) part of the programme!

The Silent Witness festival looks like no-one involved in staging it has ever been at a festival or even watched one on tv!

Coffeesnob11 · 18/01/2023 21:21

I miss clarissa. I preferred it when it was more science based. I sing the theme tune as testicles silence 🙈

Haha that's exactly what I said!

Biggest mistake was them making Jack and Nikki a couple. No chemistry and just cringe!

Also what has happened with Emilia Foxes acting?! She's so wooden!!

watcherintherye · 18/01/2023 21:55

OMG! So now midwifery is added to their ever expanding skill set!

BaconAndAvocado · 18/01/2023 22:21

Yes, I also think Emilia’s acting talent has gone up the swanny!

Well, Nikki is a Dr so in theory she will have done a tiny bit on childbirth in her training. That will have been moons ago though and is likely to have been basic.*

*Obviously it’s still complete bollocks though.

The festival scenes are hilariously bad, there’s one there!

I howl along every time just to get a look of disgust from DH..if he ever stops looking disgust then I'll stop 😂

I stopped watching last series. My Mum, bless her, is committed to the cause. She's just text me to say 'this is horseshit. No more' Grin

Thats how I felt watching this week’s. It was unbearable.

Agree. It’s just really awkward. They need a bigger gang of pathologists again. It was better when there were more of them and they just got on with work.

roselune · 21/01/2023 22:38

I watched this week's on iPlayer this evening and it's so strange how it changed a couple of seasons ago, used to be excellent before.

Almost like the writers have forgotten what has gone before too. The midwifery bit was particularly odd as Nikki is not a medical doctor! She was an archaeologist when she joined the team all those years ago.

Blondeshavemorefun · 21/01/2023 23:21

I've just started this season after watching years Ago with Amanda b

Haven't seen for maybe 10yrs

Things def more hi technological now

BenCoopersSupportWren · 24/01/2023 08:49

WHY am I still watching this??

Last night’s episode started so much like an ep of Midsomers Murders that I genuinely checked I was on BBC1. Then it continued with the single greatest collection of wooden acting seen since my own primary school Class 4 nativity play. Everyone bar Cara - who is deaf and doesn’t speak - and Jemma Redgrave playing the DI sounded like they were reading from the script at the first read-through.

DomesticShortHair · 24/01/2023 08:58

It used to be an intelligently written, gripping drama. These days it’s turned into Quincy, but without the brilliant theme tune.

I often used to imagine that Quincy went around solving lots of cases that the police had dropped the ball on, only for the murderer to get off in court, because the medical examiner hadn’t spent any time doing his job, and had also compromised all the evidence. The defence attorney would have had the easiest job ever.

Silent Witness is the same. The Lyell Centre should reinvent its self as a detective agency, and Jack and Nicky could spend each episode, driving around in a van and solving mysteries. They’d probably need a dog though.

MissMarpleRocks · 24/01/2023 09:00

I have it on if I’m cooking, ironing or having a quick nap on the sofa - it doesn’t matter what you miss!

IwantToRetire · 25/01/2023 00:20

I watched episode 2 of this week's stories and already cant remember too much about it.

Just watching Jack pose in some rock solid position. Nicky prioritising her work so that the idea they are in a relationship is just not coming over.

And then the appearance of Cara's mother apparently thinking they will become a couple. Or did I dream that.

But am now keeping a score card of all the "issues" they are trying to cover in each story line and characters.

Maybe next week's will be about gender identity!

It was silly and the lapsing in to sign language is annoying if you are listening to the TV whilst doing something else. I do watch subtitled stuff but then am expecting to have to pay full attention. Even if she is studying criminology Cara wouldn't be just hanging out at the morgue, she'd be studying. It's more about wacky plots and diversity bingo than a series about how pathology can help solve crimes. Also I agree the series recruits non pathologists like Nikki who magic in to pathologists over time as thy can't be bothered to recruit any.

Plus, given the nature of their work, all employees would have to be enhanced DBS checked and be insured to be on the premises for security, confidentiality and health and safety reasons. They wouldn’t be able to have a random member of the public just wandering about. It’s nonsense

LynneBenfield · 25/01/2023 13:42

It’s amazing how Nikki is all of a sudden pretty fluent in sign language too. Haven’t we seen the new professor guy speaking it too? I didn’t think it was that widely spoken outside of the Deaf community?

2Rebecca · 26/01/2023 09:36

The BBC is keen on some aspects of equality and diversity but not surprisingly as the media is full of it concerned with nepotism. Why should Jack's niece get regular access to the path lab and post mortems when other criminology students don't? Special treatment for relatives is frowned on in the medical world.
