Just asking as I started watching thinking back to the early days, and within minutes found the new version so ridiculous, nearly burst out laughing.

Or maybe it is just me stuck in the past.

Jack used to be completely ripped back in the day! I imagine time/age has caught up with the actor a bit, as it does with us all. He still has great arms!

They put both episodes of this week’s story up on iPlayer today so I watched them both. So much better than last week’s.

Jack looks like he is pregnant

The actor's second child is due in the next few weeks so maybe he was 🤣

SoupDragon 😆

I thought this episode was a bit better, sticking more to their actual jobs.

But was really pleased to see the return of the detective whose name I cant remember nor the actress. And then she went and put herself in danger. Locked in with no mobile phone.

But agree that Jack and Nikki seem really disinterested in each other.

A bit like the last series of Spiral when Laure and Gilou didn't even want to be in the same room as each other. And then later I heard (gossip) that in real life they couldn't stand each other.

I said to DH that I liked it better when they were doing proper forensic stuff in the lab rather than running around after gangsters.

SeasonFinale · 10/01/2023 15:52

This week's is just as bad and very unimaginative writing

Teapleasebobb · 10/01/2023 22:09

Argh, I hate that I'm committed and want to see it through. The acting is particularly bad from all involved, I'm wondering if they're specifically choosing shit actors to make Emilia Fox look good 🤔

MyMumhasDementia · 11/01/2023 10:01

Some awful acting!
It reminds me of end of year performance by a youth club!

So true!!
They must be relatives to someone high up in the biz and they're letting them test out their acting skills on the shit show before they get a chance at the good stuff!

IwantToRetire · 11/01/2023 16:32

Agree its bad. And it seems like both Jack and Nikki have got worse.

Although I still have a soft spot for DI Sarah Torres.

But the plot line with so many character with serious medical conditions all ending up in the same place at the same time.

Its embarrassing.

It’s all a bit high strung these days and they keep getting Nicki into situations where no forsensic would go, like with the mum.

I did wonder if they got a bunch of philosophy grads to write the mafia story last week.

called testicles immense in our house, based on the operas voice singing testator silence, not because it’s become a huge load of bollocks.

I’ll still be watching though

colourmebladd · 14/01/2023 17:41

I laughed out loud when the dead girl’s mum said “I’ll only talk to the police if you’re there” to Nikki. It’s preposterous but I will never stop watching….

At least Nikki didn’t get kidnapped this week

Tonyol · 16/01/2023 22:15

Silent Witness is now Americanised and superficial. Unbelievable action and questionable plot.

PollyDarton1 · 16/01/2023 22:22

I stopped watching last series. My Mum, bless her, is committed to the cause. She's just text me to say 'this is horseshit. No more' Grin

Hottoffeesauce · 16/01/2023 23:12

I'm glad others feel the same way - it's just awful now. I watch it but I really haven't got a clue what the heck the story line is. I think I keep watching in the desperate hope it will improve because I used to love it!

Whatsfordinnerglutenfree · 16/01/2023 23:16

It’s going the way of Holby city, trying to up the ante, but just becoming ludicrous instead. Get back to some proper crime solving. Also Jacks niece would have study to be. Dr then specialise if she wants their job, that was glossed over.

Yes, a Criminology degree just won’t cut it! When is someone going to tell her?

Allywill · 16/01/2023 23:25

The “festival” scenes were hysterical. Such sparsely pitched tents and a handful of people - does the budget not stretch to extras? And how come the police struggled so much to catch a woman running in a long flowing dress and a mask?

2Rebecca · 17/01/2023 09:48

Ridiculous. It's just a fantasy series now.

It was very keystone cops!

As I deleted Ep 5 off my sky box I noticed it had Ep 6 ready to play (on tomorrow night) and the write up is: "As the police close in on their lead suspect, Nikki takes matters in to her own hands."

Talk about stating the bleedin' obvious, she does it every episode 😂

IwantToRetire · 17/01/2023 14:36

Just came back to say that Jack's "pregnancy" was even more noticeable this episode. ie even when loads of police where searching the site, Jack was able to stride off and by change discover the crucial evident.

I am getting increasingly uncomfortable with the storyline about the man exiling himself from his Jewish community. I am not competent to say whether any of it is right, but each series now since Clarissa left, they write in someone "representing" a minority community.

It just doesn't feel genuine, just tokenistic. It would be different if one of the main characters had this as part of their storyline.

I know watch it to chalk up how many silly plot lines they have. And stilted dialogue.

Maybe it should all end with the Lyle Institute going up in smoke and there being no pathologists left to investigate as they had to go private to survive.

I'm not entirely comfortable with the way they are portraying Velvy as an escapee from a cult. There's no balance. Although I believe the actor is Jewish so I assume he's OK with it.

I know what you mean, @soupdragon. Judging by the rest of the clunky script, I assume it's the writers' way of communicating the culture shock of leaving such a closed community but it is clumsily offensive. As for the actor, he may well be Jewish but presumably he is not of a strict, orthodox denomination? There is a big difference in cultural practices between reform and orthodox Jewish people.

I've got through episode 1 and will see what number 2 brings.

Anyone else hate the music? I always fast forward through it as it sets my teeth on edge.

DH and I 'sing' along to the theme tune Shock

Given he's an actor it seems unlikely (to me) that he is of the strict/orthodox part of the religion. I assume he would be understanding of it though and not want to cause offence.

I realise it isn't my place to be offended by it or decide whether it is or not but I do find the implications somewhat uncomfortable.

I'm watching part 2 from the story last night on IPlayer now, I must be mad but I always want to make sure I don't miss an improvement!
