I have watched the whole series and would really like to discuss the last two episodes when you have all caught up!

JustMeNameChanger · 02/01/2023 18:29

I’ve watched it all and am ready to discuss.

FluffyYucca · 02/01/2023 18:32

I felt so sorry for Craig at the end.

Still don’t understand why Paul was even in it!

Howlongtillwegetthere · 02/01/2023 18:34

Is this being shown in the U.K. too? If so, which channel?

Lentilweaver · 02/01/2023 18:40

I am going to wait a day to discuss this until more of you have watched it, but @Howlongtillwegetthere please go to the other thread as we will discuss the final episodes here and spoil it for you. Not being shown in the UK; we are watching on streaming. Link on other thread:)

AspireMe · 02/01/2023 18:56

I am still so confused by Paul! He said about five sentences in the entire show! Is it because he's British? I pondered that in the other thread. I really don't get it - who was he friendly with? Did he have alliances? Why was he cut out so much!?

I loved Marielle, thought she was great, but Alex was just the perfect traitor! Loved how she was the cuckoo in the next and just kicked them both out after they initiated her. One poor choice I think she made at the end was picking Kate over Lewis to join her as a traitor. If she had picked Lewis, he would have been the sacrificial lamb and definitely got voted next round and it wouldn't have disrupted Kate's vote, or Teresa's, and she wouldn't have found herself in the firing line from Kate trying to oust her. That just didn't make sense to me.

Hated the American style filming and the accommodation they stayed in looked cheap and like it was done on a budget. I suppose Australia doesn't have the dark weather, the settings or the buildings to go the whole hog on the gothic vibe like Scotland can.

I hope it gets a second series, or our next lot of contestants are more brutal and backstabbing like their Australian counterparts. But I read it got dismal ratings in Australia and was not that well received, so who knows.

I don't know how Craig held it together at the end. Her behaviour was shocking (yeah, I know it's the point of the game, but still). Apparently he didn't want to do the show, but was approached by the production team twice and was eventually persuaded because he has a severely disabled daughter.

I just read that. Sad story. The thing is, it is a game, no matter how much emotion and investment goes into it, both as contestants and viewers.

fairgame84 · 02/01/2023 19:06

Craig's face at the end when he realised he'd been betrayed 😢

I really enjoyed it. I liked how the contestants were more real and not declaring their love for each other or saying '100% faithful every 2 seconds'.

I preferred the tasks in a aus version but preferred Claudia and the castle in the uk version.

I need to try and find the Dutch version.

They're on Youtube.

JustMeNameChanger · 02/01/2023 19:40

Poor Craig. He was totally played, but it is a game after all.

I thought the UK version was much better, nicer castle, much better host.

Lentilweaver · 03/01/2023 09:25

Ok my thoughts:

I liked that in the Australian version some smart people made it to the end. Not like the UK version where all the stupid people made it to the last 3.

Alex played such a fantastic game!Totally pulled the wool over Craig;s eyes with her big tearful eyes. Kate was smart too. But I do think Alex deserved the win.

I loved Marielle and Nigel. They played really well except that each made a crucial mistake: Marielle in making up what Fee said, and Nigel in not taking out his fellow traitors. Have you all Googled Nigel? I really wanted him to win after his terrible experiences. He was also great in the challenges.

I thought it was unfair getting Alex to recruit a traitor, because Craig then had no chance of winning with two Traitors in the final 3. Course he could have kept Lewis if he had been a little smarter.

I liked that contestants cried less and played more professionally.

I personally think the producers thought that Alex would have recruited Lewis (which is what I would have done), Lewis would have likely to been banished the next round, and then it would have been an Alex, Kate, Teresa and Craig final, so three vs 1.

Penguinsaregreat · 03/01/2023 14:14

Wow I have just watched the whole series.
Brutal is all I can say.
I didn’t feel an attachment to any of them, unlike the UK one where I absolutely wanted Aaron to win and Wilf to go home empty handed.
Alex- such crocodile tears.
Craig- left with dignity. More than I would have had. Hell, I think they would have had to edit out my response!
Kate- I liked Kate preferred her to Alex. Alex I felt kind of won by default. If she hadn’t have been recruited by the traitors then probably would have been booted off but that’s the nature of the game.
Paul- who?

Penguinsaregreat · 03/01/2023 14:18

I actually liked all the hysterics of the UK contestants.
The Austrian contestants were much harder to warm to. Maybe also the way they just blurted out who they would vote for during the day. Possibly made the person being voted off more deflated and less emotional as they knew hours before that the others were rooting for them to get thrown out.

Penguinsaregreat · 03/01/2023 14:24

Still so many contestants adamant that they can read body language and know 100% when someone is lying.
I suppose that’s why they get recruited because they have too much self belief, and it makes for interesting TV.
Chloe was hilarious.
Wish she had stayed, it would have made great viewing.

wesayno · 04/01/2023 03:56

Well, that was downright BRUTAL. Oh my goodness. I was watching between my fingers! So interesting to see a traitor win and compare it to when the faithfuls won. There was no air-punching from me this time 😬

Poor Craig. First his best bro Nigel, then played like a fiddle by crocodile-tears Alex. His face at the end was heartbreaking. The way the twinkle in his eyes just died. I don't think I could trust anyone ever again. I don't know how anyone could ever trust Alex again.

I was rooting for Kate by the end because I think she's fab and, like Kieran, was handed an impossible task by being a late-stage recruit, but there's no doubt about it: Alex played a blinder. In fact, all the main women were amazing - Alex picked up the baton from Marielle. It was a refreshing change to the UK one, where the only real female powerhouse was Amanda. Interesting how "it must be a man because numbers" never crossed their minds here.

I find it funny that the traitor recruits were an Alex and a K-name in the UK, too. Had UK Alex accepted being a traitor mid-game the way AU Alex did, then she could have been in an equally strong, winning position. The endgame played out similarly between the last two traitors trying to boot out the other. I think it was quite obvious Alex would get to the end, if not win, because like Wilf she was the only one they really focused on for the money motivation chats.

I think there's a US version coming soon too? I'll be watching the shit out of that as well 😁 Love this format so much! I love being excited by telly again.

Ps. So long, Paul. We never knew ya.

ratatattatt · 04/01/2023 12:46

Sooooo brutal!! Poor poor Craig! Was defo rooting for Kate at the end but fair play to Alex, she was an absolute weasel throughout.

The way she laughed when Craig voted for Kate at the end though I'm surprised he didn't notice that! I hope Alex feels at least slightly bad for destroying Craig's trust in human beings.

I think Kate missed a trick back when they were all saying why are you still here, you should have been murdered last night, that makes no sense. She should have pointed out that not murdering her makes her look suspicious and so therefore she'd be more likely to get banished thereby keeping the her off the traitors.

LydiaBennetsUglyBonnet · 04/01/2023 20:19

Just finished it!

Overall I preferred the aesthetics, location, tasks and format of the UK version - things like seeing the murdered people being informed.

But I preferred the ruthlessness of the Aussie version.

The outing of Marielle was absolute genius. I LOVE how they hid it from her until they wrote her nameZ

Gutted Alex won and felt awful for poor Craig. I should have been Kate. She was smarter and more honest, and better at traitor hunting. She was the one who figured out Marielle. Alex just smiled and flicked her hair and cried.

LydiaBennetsUglyBonnet · 04/01/2023 20:20

FluffyYucca · 02/01/2023 18:32

I felt so sorry for Craig at the end.

Still don’t understand why Paul was even in it!

He MUST have upset a producer - he didn’t even get an intro into his life and job. Just popped up now and again, said about 12 words in total.

If anyone has Disney+ BTW Nigel’s captivity story is on season 6 of Banged up Abroad

LydiaBennetsUglyBonnet · 04/01/2023 20:31

Also can we talk about what a nobber Rodger the Todger was? I didn’t like that he got to pace around the banishment room dropping clues. And SO egotistical and arrogant. Why was everyone fawning over him? He’s not even that good looking. No warmth or charisma. Thank god we have the wonderful Claudia!

Lentilweaver · 04/01/2023 21:02

It really was! Kate was smart.

Stokey · 04/01/2023 21:23

I've just finished it. I liked the way they played more strategically than the UK one, particularly the banishment of Marielle and the gradual realisation that people who were flying under the radar were more likely to be guilty. To bad they didn't apply that to Alex.
Was surprised how annoying I felt at a traitor winning, I didn't have any particular love for Craig but it just felt like he was stitched up at the end. I would have preferred Kate to win as she was more of a faithful. Then again I really thought I wanted Amanda to win in the UK.

They did have some slightly brighter people left in this one, but think it is a flaw of the game that the best players get voted out first.

Paul's editing was super weird, speculation on Reddit that he must have done something wrong.

Also what on earth went on with Chloe?

00100001 · 05/01/2023 01:16

She's Cuckoo
