Late to this, but I finally watched it. Got very bored halfway through and nearly gave up, but it picked up.
I found it weaker than the UK and US versions. I don't think it had the same budget and despite a few lingering shots of Dickens and Christie novels, it didn't have that aesthetic.
As it became clear Alex was going to win (obvious when Lewis got banished, Kate was never going to win Craig round from Alex), I felt unhappy. I really wanted anyone but her. At the same time, she played so well that I can't deny she deserved it. She clearly was a brilliant traitor!
I just felt so awful for Craig at the end, even worse than I did for Quentin and Andie in the US version. It's not so bad when they get murdered or banished, they're prepared for that. It's the moment of euphoria in thinking they've got the last traitor and believing they're going to get the money and even being happy to share it with someone they care about and trust...and then they find that out.
The UK version is the only one that's left me feeling satisfied. I was hoping for some sort of similar "keep throwing your friends under the bus and eventually there'll be none when you need them" ending but obviously it doesn't always work that way.
To be honest, endings like that leave me so sad, I'm not sure I'll watch the new series of any of them when they come out. It's all addictive, backstabbing fun until...
I know it's a game of deceit and betrayal but maybe I'm just not as prepared for that as I thought I was. I think it depends on how much I like the remaining Faithfuls.
