It says to keep it in the fridge on the bottle.

Ah - we probably ought to expect Lance to kick against Authority!

It’s so funny - Andy likes to believe he’s a lone wolf intellectual - but he doesn’t have the resilience for that kind of life so is constantly too scared to take flight; he’d be much happier in the warm embrace of a corporate institution. Lance, on the other hand, does a mostly mindless job that leaves his brain free for all sorts of whoops and somersaults. He’s the one demolishing accepted History and engaging independently with the preservation of foodstuffs.

Lance will remember that ketchup never used to say keep in the fridge and explained why it doesn't need to be in the fridge so he is sticking to what he knows to be correct regardless of what the new rules say.

How did Stan get hold of the grail? I thought it was in the scout hut?

His Saturday club is held in the scout hut

Why was Colchester on the cup? That story clearly started in the Middle East.

Also, come on, would they really have used a pottery cup from the Finds table to shave into?? I didn’t buy that.

These are people who take their finds seriously.

I love the series but I didn’t love this. Why did Lance have a year long huff? It seemed so out of character.

Saucery · 31/12/2022 22:12

Doesn’t the Holy Grail hone in on human weakness? So Lance became more selfish, Russell became vain………
I mean, it was a stretch worthy of an elite gymnast, but Grail’s gonna Grail Grin
The “somewhere near Colchester” needed to be followed by “About tea time” for the full Python effect, though.

UrsulaPandress · 31/12/2022 22:13

I do wonder about some folk.

GhostBridezilla · 31/12/2022 22:17

Ah gotcha. I knew there was something I was missing.

He didn't use the cup for shaving, he drank his tea out of it, and by the following week he was looking a lot younger...

Colchester wasn’t on the cup.

BoreOfWhabylon · 01/01/2023 20:20

They said it was Colchester Ware. The time lapse stuff started in Ancient Colchester with a load of the cups being bought and loaded onto a cart by a (presumably) Middle Eastern trader. It then moved to the ME and the last supper etc.

I hadn't twigged about the effect on Hugh though. Must rewatch.

It didn’t start in ancient Colchester. It said ‘Colchester’. People in 2000 years ago England didn’t dress like that.

BoreOfWhabylon · 01/01/2023 21:16

I shall rewatch, but that was my impression. Colchester Ware would, logically, be produced in Colchester

That’s the point. He looked at it and said dismissively that he thought it was made somewhere near Colchester. Then when they showed the origin it said ‘somewhere near Colchester’, with footage that was clearly not ancient Colchester. The ‘somewhere near Colchester’ bit was a joke.

Duh! <smacks forehead>

I'm such a fool Blush

BoreOfWhabylon · 01/01/2023 21:33

To be fair, I didn't spot the camel Grin

Clawdy · 01/01/2023 23:19

I didn't spot the camel either! So how did it get to England from Jerusalem or wherever the Last Supper was?

Clawdy · 01/01/2023 23:19

It was collected by the girl from the last supper, who then passed it on to her children. From there it fell into the hands of the romans I think. Then the box was built for it. It’s travelled with the Roman Empire until it ended up in England. (I think that’s what happened, I only watched the sequence once).

And surely the clothes and buildings were a clue that this wasn’t ancient Colchester.

UrsulaPandress · 01/01/2023 23:51

I despair.

BoreOfWhabylon · 02/01/2023 02:29

Have rewatched. It was a beautiful little segment, condensing more than a thousand years before the cup was buried in the ground.

In my defence, I wasn't wearig my glasses the first time I watched, and wine had been taken.

CurrentHun · 02/01/2023 09:06

Ohhhhhh. Thank you. I get it now!
This makes way more sense Grin

QueefQueen80s · 02/01/2023 14:58

Just watched it now. I don't understand Andy and Becky as a couple at all.. totally unsuited and it feels like two mismatched actors.. I don't usually feel that in shows. She just shouts at him and he's just a lost puppy who couldn't care less.

TheDouglasChater · 02/01/2023 20:33

Can someone explain the Lance-Gollum references up-thread?

I've never seen LOTR.

UrsulaPandress · 02/01/2023 20:59

My precious

QuaterMiss · 02/01/2023 20:59

Gollum was a creature driven to madness by his murderous desire for a magical ring. His hungry look and the phrase “My preciousssss” have become synonymous with any uncontrollable urge to possess a thing. Lance had a Gollum moment when he found the piece of gold possibly from the casket containing the Holy Grail. He didn’t want to share the discovery with Andy or the club - but the combination of desire and shame and secrecy warped any pleasure he might have had from the find.
