Yah no 5 of the strike series starts on Sunday

BBC
Based on the 2020 novel, the second most recent in the Strike series, Troubled Blood sees Strike tackling his first ever cold case.

The official synopsis the season says: "Private detective Cormoran Strike is visiting his family in Cornwall when he’s approached by a woman asking for help finding her mother, Margot Bamborough, who went missing under mysterious circumstances in 1974.

"Strike’s never tackled a cold case before let alone one 40 years old, but despite the slim chance of success, he’s intrigued and takes it on, adding to the long list of cases that he and his partner in the agency Robin Ellacott are currently working on. Robin herself is also juggling a messy divorce and unwanted male attention as well as battling her own feelings about Strike.

"As Strike and Robin investigate Margot’s disappearance, they come up against a fiendishly complex case with a psychopathic serial killer and witnesses who cannot all be trusted. They learn that even cases decades old can prove to be deadly

Just watched eps 1 and 2 . It's really very good , a lot of characters though . Glad I've not read the book as most of you have commented on the differences .

Loved the scene with Janice and Irene !

Yes, I thought the actresses who played them were excellent!

I also like the actress who plays Pat. In the latest CS book, The Ink Black Heart, she’s one of my favourite characters.

the80sweregreat · 16/12/2022 08:08

Pat , in the books, is beautifully described and so funny too.

Workerbeep · 16/12/2022 08:23

I adore JKR writing. Just binged watched troubled blood and loved it. Thought the acting all round was superb.

the80sweregreat · 16/12/2022 08:53

JKR is a national treasure
A writer in the same league as Dickens.

Blondeshavemorefun · 16/12/2022 20:55

I’m looking forward to 3&4

wonder when book 6 will be filmed and if will do all 10

I'm watching the tv series in broadcast time having read the books. I think the adaptation overall is pretty good viewers would enjoy the extra detail in the book if they haven't read it.

There are some significant differences - sub plots left out, group of characters left out and both replaced by collapsing some events and people into new subplots/people. Some shifting of events as well. However unless they would need a much larger cast and at least ten episodes to do it as per the book. I think it captures the story and events well enough, even if not a literal adaptation.

LadyEloise1 · 19/12/2022 00:53

Thank you @Blondeshavemorefun
I watched it. 👍

ClaribelLowLieth · 19/12/2022 13:11

I kind of wish they would take in all the extra detail for the screen adaptations and make the serieses twice as long

ClaribelLowLieth · 19/12/2022 13:11

Especially for the next one as its so complex

Blondeshavemorefun · 19/12/2022 13:26

What book 6 is complex

EmpressaurusOfWitchesBackFromTheDead · 19/12/2022 13:27

Without spoilers, there are large & crucial chunks of book 6 that would be extremely difficult to televise.

CountlesScreamingArgonauts · 19/12/2022 13:31

I binge watched the whole thing but was left feeling slightly unfulfilled. TB is my favourite of the Strike books and like pp, I wish they had kept more of the original and made the series longer, it would have made for a better pace. As it was it felt a bit rushed and superficial, it was more like an ITV drama.

Agree that the casting of Pat is superb, she's a terrific character, and the relationship between strike and his aunt and uncle was very sweet.

I wonder how they'll do The Ink Black Heart, as so much of it is set online. It's overly long too so won't suffer from some heavy editing. Hope JKR gets back on track for the rest of the series, otherwise we'll end up with a HP scenario with the books getting longer and longer and nobody being brave enough to tell her to cut 10,000 words!
