Yah no 5 of the strike series starts on Sunday

BBC
Based on the 2020 novel, the second most recent in the Strike series, Troubled Blood sees Strike tackling his first ever cold case.

The official synopsis the season says: "Private detective Cormoran Strike is visiting his family in Cornwall when he’s approached by a woman asking for help finding her mother, Margot Bamborough, who went missing under mysterious circumstances in 1974.

"Strike’s never tackled a cold case before let alone one 40 years old, but despite the slim chance of success, he’s intrigued and takes it on, adding to the long list of cases that he and his partner in the agency Robin Ellacott are currently working on. Robin herself is also juggling a messy divorce and unwanted male attention as well as battling her own feelings about Strike.

"As Strike and Robin investigate Margot’s disappearance, they come up against a fiendishly complex case with a psychopathic serial killer and witnesses who cannot all be trusted. They learn that even cases decades old can prove to be deadly

I've not seen any of the Strike series on TV but have read all the books. I wonder if I should watch this now, or better to watch the earlier ones on catch-up first (presuming they are on catch-up!)

Blondeshavemorefun · 11/12/2022 10:08

@Bimbleberries yes watch if you can as stories kinda interlink

thanks, I'll save them then. I have read the books, so i do know the stories kind of, but I've forgotten a lot of the details, so it might be more enjoyable to watch as a series.

CampervanKween · 11/12/2022 19:56

Looking forward to this. Absolutely perfect casting imo

Oh please start the TV shows from the beginning! They are well worth watching all the way through. I think they are all available on iPlayer.

EspeciallyD · 11/12/2022 21:57

I'd never find time, I hardly watch TV, it just came on after Strictly.

Blondeshavemorefun · 11/12/2022 21:59

That video :(

The timeline is all wrong! I listened to it on Audible again really recently, and they’ve turned it all on its head.

AutisticLegoLover · 11/12/2022 22:11

I read it fairly recently but am confused. Bits make sense.

Strike looks like he's lost weight. I like his scarf.

Evenstar · 11/12/2022 22:21

Can anyone tell me who the elderly couple in Cornwall are? I haven’t read all the books, we wondered if they may have fostered Strike as a child, I didn’t recall them from the TV series.

upinaballoon · 11/12/2022 22:22

In the book the description of the video was awful.

I'm glad they have put Ted(?) and Joan in and not left them out because they have to get it all into 4 episodes.

Nice to see their faces change just that little bit when he was on the ferry and they caught sight of one another.

His aunt and uncle. I can't remember whether it's Ted or Joan who is the brother or sister of Strike's mother, Leda.

LadyEloise1 · 11/12/2022 22:25

Looking forward to Episode 2

carpool · 11/12/2022 22:33

Was that St Mawes?

Evenstar · 11/12/2022 22:43

Thanks @upinaballoon

PatChaunceysFruitCake · 11/12/2022 22:53

Ted was Leda's sister. In the books she says Strike looks like Ted.

They drive me nuts when they play with the timeline. They don't speak to Oonagh until half way through the book!

EspeciallyD · 11/12/2022 23:18

Not sure what to think of that, I agree the timeline being muddled was annoying. It felt rushed but then the book was so long it would have to be.

NearlyfiftyF · 12/12/2022 00:35

I’m not enjoying it at all. I don’t like the bits theyve changed. Strike looks good, Robin looks different. No one is how I imagined them except maybe Pat. Disappointed with how Margot comes across

the80sweregreat · 12/12/2022 03:46

Margot is completely different in the book. Oh
Pat is spot on though

Whatwhowherewhy · 12/12/2022 05:42

@NearlyfiftyF thought the same about Robin and it turns out she had twins in may 2021! My face changed after pregnancy too.

Shortpoet · 12/12/2022 07:30

Margot is described as clever and funny. I thought they captured that.
Although she didn’t confront Luca in the book.
