Based on the 2020 novel, the second most recent in the Strike series, Troubled Blood sees Strike tackling his first ever cold case.

The official synopsis the season says: "Private detective Cormoran Strike is visiting his family in Cornwall when he’s approached by a woman asking for help finding her mother, Margot Bamborough, who went missing under mysterious circumstances in 1974.

"Strike’s never tackled a cold case before let alone one 40 years old, but despite the slim chance of success, he’s intrigued and takes it on, adding to the long list of cases that he and his partner in the agency Robin Ellacott are currently working on. Robin herself is also juggling a messy divorce and unwanted male attention as well as battling her own feelings about Strike.

"As Strike and Robin investigate Margot’s disappearance, they come up against a fiendishly complex case with a psychopathic serial killer and witnesses who cannot all be trusted. They learn that even cases decades old can prove to be deadly

Did they mention how they found Kara? I assume they found her name in the Ricci club records or somewhere like that but can't remember it being mentioned.

And does this mean Strike and Robin have discarded Ricci Sr as a suspect for Margot's case?

Anna’s father said Tony Wolfson who was looking for his sister Kara who went missing and then Gloria conti said she was told by Luca that a girl Kara had been killed for informing on the Ricci clan so they looked her up and saw in her photos she had the scar.

Just watched eps 1 and 2 . It's really very good , a lot of characters though . Glad I've not read the book as most of you have commented on the differences .

Is Pat a new character for this story. I can't remember her being in the previous ones but as it's such a long time between them, I wondered if I'd just forgotten her.

Yes Pat is new in this book.

Cormoron doesn't like her much at first

Quite often Robin's detecting talents just seem to stretch to being much better at using the internet than Cormoran.

The two leads are as good as ever, but there's some ropey acting from the supporting and minor characters.

I agree about Robin’s accent. She sounds a lot more like Holliday Grainger’s character in The Capture.

No she was in at least one previous book. What she did in the book but hasn't yet been shown on the show is decipher pitman's shorthand in the original detective notebook. It's not a spoiler. I
