That was an absolutely epic hour long episode tonight. I was literally hanging on the edge of my seat!

Why oh why could they not have just let Janine go and get on with their lives. Poor Scarlett trying to do the right thing.

If only Mick saw Linda getting out of the car, then he wouldn't have had to go back in for her. Probably too much for him, to go that deep into the cold water twice.

This is going to break Linda for sure! What will happen to the Vic now? Surely Janine is entitled to half and the other half is still Linda's isn't it?!? Such a mess. Wish Mick didn't leave EE 😕

Aby543 · 25/12/2022 22:42

If the writers leave Mick's death ambiguous, he could probably return in a few years time, similar to the Harold Bishop storyline in Neighbours...

Blondeshavemorefun · 25/12/2022 22:42

Spidey66 · 25/12/2022 22:37

@Blondeshavemorefun
They haven't though....Mick got Janine out, then went back in for Linda but she managed to drag herself out but he'd already gone back in by then. So only Mick has drowned!

It was so exciting I was on the edge of my seat!!!

I meant both as in ROXY and Ronnie when that happened

@Meredusoleil well guess they depends if mock has a will

Tho aren't wills invalid if Marry

So maybe janine will get half the pub

Obv mocks half could go to his older kids not janine so the. Will go back to Linda

As they've only just got married, I doubt he will have had time to update his will to leave his share of the pub to his kids (unless that's what he had put in place before). So it will just be the automatic spouse gets his share, no?

DahliaMacNamara · 25/12/2022 22:51

Whatever the legalities, we probably shouldn't base any expectations on them.
I was just explaining to DH that unless they find a body to bury, Mick is only EastEnders dead not dead dead. What the implications of not finding a body might be in terms of ownership of the Vic, who knows? Where were they with the lightning purchase of the Islington boozer?

100%

Who wants to start the sweep stake on the month/year Mick returns?

If there's no body, then Janine can't get her hands on Mick's estate too.

AutumnCrow · 25/12/2022 23:36

So Mick drags Janine out of the car, but instead of just dumping her on her back up the shallows and rushing back to help Linda, he decides to carry Janine all the way up the beach and round to a cove?

1/10 for inshore rescue, Mock.

SoupDragon · 25/12/2022 23:51

Mick's swimming has improved no end since he learned after being scared.

Nicely remembered!

SoupDragon · 25/12/2022 23:54

I find it hard to believe they've killed him off, although the music would imply that. There's been too much killing off of characters recently I think.

i think the consummation of the marriage is a red herring given she's pregnant and it would be impossible to prove anyway.

yes, wills become invalid on marriage.

And Den, and Kathy!

Have any of Janine's precious husbands survived marriage? I still think of Barry rolling down that hill.

I'm so cross they left the square. Everyone knows the best revenge is a life lived well.

Dee Bliss and Harold Bishop 'died'. Mick has clearly 'died'.

Janine will leave. Only to return in 7 years to claim her estate from Mick. Only for Mick to secretly return, hiding in the shadows, just a week before she would get it.

Meanwhile it will turn out that Mick was the person who had remained in touch with Ian (tipping him off about Dot's funeral) and after returning to the beach and being unable to find either Janine or Lynda in the stormy conditions (he was now 2 miles down the coast), thought that he would be done for murder / had no reason to live so turned to Ian for advice. He stayed with Ian for a while, so he could create a new identity and get a job. This also helped Ian give a backstory to his new wife.

Janine rocks up, only for SCENES at the Queen Vic.

In the Vic looking shocked are Billy and Jay who now have moved in with each other and after a secret affair that came out at Christmas 2026. Grant is now the Landlord having shacked up with Shirley (though no married - its a relationship of convenience and because Grant is still technically in hiding). Cat is married to Dave Branning, who is a second cousin three times removed of Jack. Whitney is in black, wailing as she mourns the sudden death of her ninth fiancee. Sonia now smokes 20 a day and recites the bible. Honey died in mysterious circumstances in 2027 (part of the ongoing serial killer storyline featuring Bobby Beale). Martin Fowler still is a massive fucking Loser with a capital L. Bernadette now has quads after a desparate attempt to save her relationship with Melissa Brown (Bernadette is in the pub with her whole family but the quads are nowhere to be seen).

Then for New Year Mick lets slip about Ian. Ian returns with a plan to take revenge on Phil (who is still not in jail and is still leading his non-exist gang empire of lounging about looking 'ard without actually doing anything, especially not crime) and Sharon.

Meanwhile in a twist no one saw coming its revealed that Sharon wasn't just shagging Phil and Keanu - Albie is actually Ben's baby via sperm donation.

Thus there is an inevitable hospital scene at New Year - no one knows who will end up there. But Sonic is inexplicably on duty as a nurse there, despite having taken her new 9 - 5 job as the practice nurse at the new GPs.

The Duff Duffers cut on a still of Stacey screaming 'NOOOOOOO'.

VivienneDelacroix · 26/12/2022 03:06

He'd best be dead-dead. I want a body by NYE - I can't face the possibility that Dire Danny could come back. What I really hoped would happen was that Alfie would fall from the roof just as Mick was walking past, killing them both instantly. Job done- Merry Christmas Walford.

BigMandysBookClub · 26/12/2022 07:02

Those last two posts were hilarious. The elements of the first one will definitely end up in the scripts in the future.

I think Alfie will end up with Linda eventually or they will at least help each other. I wonder what will happen with her on her own now. And to the pub.

I have found this Mick and Janine storyline really odd. It has never sat well with me. I take it she is exiting now and she has only been back little more than a year? Basically killing off another husband. I hope that this is her final stint and they don't recycle that storyline again. Would have preferred a different exit for Mick.

Why didn't they just call the police and say this woman perverted the course of justice and is leaving the country to avoid arrest?

Best storyline in a soap ever Xmas Grin

Snoredoeurve · 26/12/2022 08:00

So many loose ends
How did Janice buy the pub in Islington or are we about to find out she sold the Vic?
A wierd explanation of half the story about the crash and everyone understands??
Bit sloppy tbh

I want her to still be married to someone else so the marriage is void.
L and Shazza run the Vic.
Micks body is never found....Duff duff
So DD can come back.

I did cheer at the Mick and L scenes 😍

the80sweregreat · 26/12/2022 08:20

I would have phoned the police too.
They did threaten it . She couldn't have left the country on Christmas Day night that easily anyway.

RJnomore1 · 26/12/2022 08:21

I thought for a minute jasmine was going to take scarlet in the car, which would then have made more sense for why they chased her. Just to spite mick.

@DahliaMacNamara though we also know that bodies don't mean they are dead dead

Dens and Kathy's body were found and they came back 😂😂

I thought that too! Taking Scarlett hostage would have made more sense for Mick to follow them 👍

Maybe Scarlet will let slip that Janice already has a husband who'll surface just as she's taking possession of the Vic.

If the Writers do a 'Harold Bishop', how they bring him back will be a interesting.

Possible storyline:

Mick gets rescued by a fisherman.

He ends up in hospital and is diagnosed with amnesia.

With no documents, Mick is unidentifiable. He doesn't know his name, but he thinks it's Stan.

Mick ends up working at a cafe in Kent.
He starts a relationship with a new woman.

Linda and the family go to Kent. End up at the cafe where Mick is working in.

They call out to him, but he doesn't recognise them and think they've mistaken him for someone else.

They show him pictures of himself with the family. But this only angers him, as he doesn't remember anything and he is content with his life.

Somehow, there is another high risk incident involving Linda. Mick rescues her. This starts to bring back memories of him rescuing Janine and trying to rescue Linda.

Mick starts to regain his memory. The events cause turmoil, as he is torn between Linda and the new woman.

Eventually, he chooses Linda and he returns to Walford.

Or alternatively, he gets abducted by aliens who carry out some experiments on him. They drop him off in Walford, with a different personality and accent (similar to Cletus from the Simpsons).
