Myself, dh and our son 17 have had a family tradition oner the last few years of watching a couple of episodes of a US sitcom a couple of nights a week. Dh and I hadn't watched any of the series at the times they were broadcast so it's all off Netflix.

We've loved :

The Big Bang Theory
Friends
Joey
Community
Arrested Development
Superstore
Brooklyn 99
Parks and Rec
The Office (US)

We know seem to have come to a dead end. We tried the new show, Blockbuster but it wasn't much cop so we gave up. We tried a few episodes of How I Met Your Mother but we haven't really enjoyed that either. Surely there must be more series still to watch with the same sense of humour as all of the above?

TIA

Oh I can't believe I forget The Goldbergs- excellent show!

Partyprofessional · 07/12/2022 23:29

I can’t believe only one person has mentioned Everyone loves Raymond. So funny

MissHavishamsMouldyOldCake · 07/12/2022 23:30

New Girl. So funny.

SusanPerbCallMeSue · 07/12/2022 23:30

My teens love The Goldbergs and The Good Place.

BurningTheToast · 07/12/2022 23:31

Life in Pieces. Re-watched first series recently when I was poorly in bed and it was still really funny.

Veenah · 07/12/2022 23:31

Schitts Creek
The Good Place
Abbot Elementary
Last Man on Earth
New Girl
Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt

spiderlight · 07/12/2022 23:35

Young Sheldon
Schitts Creek
Atypical
Speechless
Scrubs.

Our teen DS also adored Friday Night Dinner.

We’re also US sitcom fanatics - it’s our best family time with teens.

Others have suggested the Middle. It’s on Prime but I think you have to buy it. It’s awesome though - and well worth the expenditure. It’s just a really good family sitcom.

New Girl would be my next suggestion. It’s a group of friends flat sharing in LA. First couple of seasons are only okay but gets better and better.

It’s not American, but the IT Crowd is just so good. I don’t think much ever compares with it.

Another vote for Kim's Convenience. Ideal for that age. Very very funny.

marblemad · 07/12/2022 23:55

Absolutely try New girl and Modern Family!

stockpilingallthecheese · 08/12/2022 08:03

Modern Family, Schitts Creek, Friday Night Dinner and New Girl!

Idratherbepaddleboarding · 08/12/2022 08:07

Young Sheldon isn’t exactly a sit com but it is brilliant!

I’ve just started rewatching Scrubs on Disney +.

PuttingDownRoots · 08/12/2022 08:13

Ghosts (UK and US). UK is more subtle, US improves after first couple of episodes when it stops directly copying UK.

Hidingawaytoday · 08/12/2022 08:17

Most of these have been mentioned already but adding my vote!

Fraiser
Schitts Creek
Modern Family
Kim's Convenience
Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt
Life in Pieces
Scrubs
Everybody Loves Raymond
A bit older but MASH

It is wonderful, and it might be my favourite, but fair warning to the OP that it's, erm, darker than those on her list Grin

Thanks.. We actually tried that way back and got through a few minutes before switching off. Don't mind dark humour but not not for family teatime viewing!

Everybody Loves Raymond

Bbq1 · 08/12/2022 11:03

Wow, thanks for all the fab ideas. The only other one we abandoned was New Girl about Season 3. It just seemed to centre heavily around sex. I'm no prude and don't mind a bit of sexual humour but it was like it was just one theme that the show was built around . Might be us though as it's certainly popular.i am going to share these fab ideas tonight.

Haha, yes, exactly.

As you mention family teatime viewing, I'm going to mention Seinfeld again, just because a couple of years back we watched this with our then 12 and 15 year olds and all LOVED it. I'd seen the odd episode before but never watched it all the way through. It's just glorious.

It's always sunny in Philadelphia
New Girl
30 Rock

Yes, 30 Rock is also a great shout, can't believe I forgot that!

DoneAdulting · 08/12/2022 11:12

Modern Family
Schitts Creek
The Middle
The Goldbergs
New Girl

Satsuma2 · 08/12/2022 11:19

Some of these mentioned I have never been able to get into, everyone is different I suppose. One I enjoyed was Grace and Frankie. I also enjoyed Blackish and Modern Family.

Unicorn2022 · 08/12/2022 11:20

Ghosts US
Upload (Netflix)
Veronica Mars

These are the ones I have been watching with my teens

refreshingseahorse · 08/12/2022 11:20

AP Bio is really good.
Fresh off the boat is good for the first two thirds of the series run (it gets crappy later)

Is it worth going down a retro route? Family Ties /Brady Bunch / Who's the Boss? Older ones add a bit of cultural anthropology to the mix.

FleasNavidad · 08/12/2022 11:23

Schitts Creek.
