Welcome to the shiny new thread.

One less day to wait for the next installment of Strictly!

OP posts:

One reason the BBC don't want Strictly to clash with the football is the money made from the text and telephone votes - if the audience is only those who don't like football then the money coming in will fall. (Does it still go to Children In Need, or am I making that up?)

Inkanta · 03/12/2022 13:51

I think this one was delivered from the heart, with venom, in spades. Re-watched a couple of times, the way she mouths "You're better of without me" spat straight to camera... chills

Damn yeah. Loved it!

Having seen a number of Cabaret productions (including the amazing one with Will Young as MC) Helen's dance was bang on the money for the context (and the sass). Would have worked with anyone else? Maybe, but a good musical number is all about both the show and the performers.

This was a couple's choice, they are often about something important to the celeb - usually some contempowaft nonsense about their Nanna. This was one totally different one, and it was brilliant. And very Fosse. If it had been a tango, for instance, I'd agree with the criticisms of just posing. But it was a couple's choice rooted in Fosse, and that's very much a part of how his choreo works.

Agree. I LOVE Fosse so really enjoy it when it comes up on Strictly.

EineReiseDurchDieZeit · 03/12/2022 14:06

Think the same, I really want to see Cabaret in London. I'm going to take the opportunity to recommend the brilliant series Fosse/Verdon, was on iPlayer may be on Disney + now

gingercat02 · 03/12/2022 15:28

Couldn't watch last night as we had our work Christmas party. Only catching up now. Just had to say WTF are Tess and Claud wearing?
On with the dancing now I have that out of my system!

EsmaCannonball · 03/12/2022 15:31

Strictly hasn't donated money to Children In Need since, IIRC, the end of Series 4. The BBC also doesn't profit from the phone votes, all the money going to the cost of administering the lines and the phone vote system.

SolInvictus · 03/12/2022 15:52

Caught up with you all, and not as irritated as usual by Musicals week given that there are only 6 of them left.

I thought Molly was great, for once Carlos didn't outshine her. Her legs weren't maybe as sharp and "flicky" as other great Charleston dancers legs have been but I enjoyed it very much.

Hamza- if you watch it without the (frankly bizarre and wrong) music, it's very very good. There is a fuckton of content in it. I think because of Hamza's invariably baggy clothing and swishing hair you sometimes don't notice what his feet are actually doing. It wasn't 10s for me, but it was definitely 9s.

Kym - was better than I thought it was going to be though it's similarity to a cha cha remains negligible. I also thought she was older than 46 given that she "remembers" watching and loving Fame. When she would have been about 4. Chinny reckon. (on a par with Fleur dropping in AGAIN about her whole life has been geared up to SCD as it's all she's ever dreamed of) Lots of quite "empty" moments with Kym as well- like the last 10 seconds of her being helped onto the car.

Will and Nancy were quiet perfection. Mesmerising and I couldn't take my eyes off them. Proper dancing. No faffing abaht. Best one of the night for me. Agreed for once, with Motsi (who looked more beautiful than she's ever looked- for once, understated elegance)

Helen- lovely parents. Brilliant performance in the way that Fleur's CC was a wonderful performance. Very little in the way of technical dancing, but hey ho, that's CC for you. I actually laughed out loud when Shirley talked about her being "shy" though. There's a split second when Craig says "9" you see Helen's lip curl, and yet again, the smile is empty. She's good, she knows she's good. She wants this soooooo badly and she doesn't take criticism well. Humility in the clauditorium would be a bonus too, but can't see it happening. Others say thank you, to their partner, to the judges, Helen fist pumps and basks in the accolades.

Gorka is beginning to irritate the bejaysus. He seems to be going for the sleazebag of the show. The crawling around with Claudia was embarrassing and he deserved a sharp telling off for his going over to Craig with his waggling arse. Only a few years ago there were comments about the judges being too overtly suggestive to some of the (male) contestants (Shirley mainly obviously) and how much it reflected double standards in showbiz- I'd suggest telling male dancers not to act like they're in some lapdance club might also warrant a wtf? I thought the other week when he kept opening his shirt to show off his 6 pack that his self-love really knows no bounds and this week just cemented it. Shame, because I wouldn't have kicked him out of bed for eating crisps.

Fleur was the damp squib for me. Got bored, started flicking through phone. Judges thought it was great. I bow to their expertise. And wtf with the clothes? Who the hell thought the woman in yellow and the bloke in red and blue and sort of baby diarrhea brown was going to be a hit?

I rewound to watch the "grope" from Will to Helen. Nope. Didn't see it. I saw him with his hands round her waist, she turns to him, he either whispers or kisses her neck. It's a touchy feely show, they're all constantly hugging and kissing each other. Are the people who thought he virtually assaulted her the same ones who thought Tony Adams was squeezing Katya's tits by any chance?

My votes would have gone to Will, Molly and Hamza if I was divvying them out, but if based on the dance alone, all 3 to Will.

I'd put Kym and Fleur in the dance off. Kym to go.

Yes, you are probably right. I have only seen the movie a long time ago. Been meaning to go to the current production in the West End but by god, it's expensive!

My DH is extremely tight so it can't be that pricy.. the cheaper seats are actually really good.

FartOutLoudDay · 03/12/2022 15:57

Caught up on last night. Immediately rewound to watch Helen again, followed by Hamza. Everyone else merged into one, and just cannot warm to Will at all.

SequinsandStilettos · 03/12/2022 16:25

I loved It's A in too, especially CSH - he deserved awards. Can never understand why the programme was so overlooked for BAFTAs.
I was fuming @Piggywaspushed . What has Russell T Davies got to do ffs? Overlooked for Years and Years as well. He and Callum did get awarded by the Welsh baftas amongst others, but deserved every gong going.
It's a sin was the best tv I had seen in a long while. It beautifully encapsulated the time (I helped research attitudes towards AIDS for a thesis and RTD had everything spot on. I couldn't fault the writing or the performances).
It was missed out in the emmys too. I was so shocked. Even Neil Patrick Harris didn't get a nomination for cameo in a limited series and his nuanced performance brought me to tears, as well as Callum's.
I just sat there sobbing in a heap.

Rant over! Wink 15 minutes to go.
Hands @Piggywaspushed a lemsip and crows a painkiller.

SequinsandStilettos · 03/12/2022 16:29

Have had Hamza's samba on repeat since last night. It is a thing of beauty.

SequinsandStilettos · 03/12/2022 16:31

Oh. I got the time wrong. Oh well. Am never usually early for anything! See you all in 50 x

SequinsandStilettos · 03/12/2022 16:35

Helen definitely deserved a 40 as well.

SoupDragon · 03/12/2022 16:44

I also thought she was older than 46 given that she "remembers" watching and loving Fame. When she would have been about 4. Chinny reckon.

Fame ran until she was 11 though so it is possible. I bet there were repeats too.

Noted, thank you. I will try to go in January. Was wary of the cheaper seats but I see the theatre is an intimate one.

Sunbird24 · 03/12/2022 17:10

Just catching up - the breeches in the Hamilton section… 😍

ShirleyPhallus · 03/12/2022 17:42

I have missed every thread so far but here for one!

Piggywaspushed · 03/12/2022 17:43

Oh, I love a bit of Guys N Dolls.

FitYeDaeinYeMadRadge · 03/12/2022 17:44

This is more like it

Willmafrockfit · 03/12/2022 17:45

Just caught up from last night, Helen was amazing, gave me tears

Elderflower14 · 03/12/2022 17:45

I predict a Mollie, Kym dance off..

the80sweregreat · 03/12/2022 17:45

That was good !
Claudia and Tess looking wonderful as ever

GrouchyKiwi · 03/12/2022 17:45

That was a much better pro dance. I think it was Lauren in the middle at the front? She was great (or whoever it was, if not her).

Gooseysgirl · 03/12/2022 17:45

I bloody LOVE that show - great group dance!!! 🥰
