Ore won it that year.

SequinsandStilettos · 27/11/2022 12:07

Ore did a singing in the rain crowd pleaser, a perfect jive and a classic, vintage montage-type dance with Jo (when they jumped from drum to drum).

Danny did an imperfect quickstep, a perfect samba and a red/blue costumed mirror contempomodern with Oti to Adele's Set fire to the rain.

Both had been in one DO each in the preceding fortnight - Danny was bottom two in the semis and Ore in the quarters.

It was a close-run thing but without voting figures, we'll never know how close. I still think had Will Young not withdrawn week 3, he'd have had a chance (it was set up that way imho to have Kev up against his sister and his wife that year. Louise never did hit bottom 2).

Danny was the winner for me, for that series overall. though I still don't know why they picked Zorro over Bond for movie week, when Danny is a young Pierce Brosnan lookalikey I still watch Misty Blue among other routines. Ore and Jo, however, played a blinder on the night itself.

SequinsandStilettos · 27/11/2022 12:14

Not a montage, what's it called, when you do a freestyle that shows off each different style/what you have learnt/a little bit of everything?
It's always my favourite kind and what I would choose to do.
Notable examples include Simon Webbe, Kelvin Fletcher and Jay McGuiness.

SoupDragon · 27/11/2022 12:17

I think it's rare that the wrong people end up in the final even if people disagree with the winner.

the one I'm still bitter about is that Sophie Ellis Bextor didn't get to do their Charleston again when they were knocked out before the last dance in the final.

Showcase?

Kelvin Fletcher is my all time fave contestant

Unsurprisingly given he was a ringer he has gone on to have a successful career in musical theatre so I guess Strictly did its job anyway.

Delighted for him, he deserves all the good things. I don't hold anything against the ringers - they're offered the show, they accept, and are usually brilliant. I do usually root for the newbie dancers, to be honest, but Danny was special (sigh, heart-eyes, etc.). Whenever I need cheering up, I go straight to Youtube to watch his and Oti's Samba!

SequinsandStilettos · 27/11/2022 12:31

I agree - I am glad they changed the rules on that. The one I am bitter about is not seeing Pamela and James's Argentine tango in their final. I know they did it on tour, but I am still seething I never saw it in the studio.
The training footage is on youtube and it would have got 40. It was fire.
It also amazes me that nobody has ever chosen to recycle that music, seeing as only stans will have seen the routine James and Pamela did. (Peligro, Gotan Project).

SequinsandStilettos · 27/11/2022 12:36

It was medley I was thinking of - in my case, it would be more of a hodgepodge Wink but yes, where you showcase as many of the techniques that you learnt across the series.

EvilRingahBitch · 27/11/2022 12:41

I wasn't a huge Danny stan but Misty Blue is one of my top ten ever Strictly dances.

The great final injustice for me was when Chris Hollins beat Ricky Whittle. There was a History of Strictly talking heads thing a couple of years ago where Chris Hollins was very funny and self-deprecating about the fact that he was by far the worse dancer and Ricky was totally robbed, but that Ricky is now headlining prestige US drama series while Chris is presenting Food Inspectors at teatime on BBC2.

If there had ever been a final in series three then the voters might have unfairly favoured Darren Gough over Colin Jackson and Zoe Ball but sadly there was that terrible fire the night before the final and the studios burned down and the final of series three never happened.

oh, he absolutely deserves it and he was a wonderful dancer. I honestly think Strictly is used as a "pick me!" showcase for some of the contestants in order to move/further their career. Which is absolutely fine. My comment was just along the lines of he got what he needed out of it so probably doesn't much care that he didn't win.

ArcaneWireless · 27/11/2022 13:12

Loved Will and Nance. I wasn’t sure it would work but it did.

Molly. Don’t know if it was the song, the cgi, the choreography, the ‘story’, but it felt really off for me.

Ellie. Back to shite frocks I see. Shoogly peg tonight I fear. Her LEGS though. You lucky lucky woman!

Fleur. I have to confess I like a filthy rumba. That was a dark rumba. Like I’ll see to you then I’ll eat you rumba. Didn’t care for it. I’d rather watch Moss and The German.

Love Hamza and Jowita. The frock. 😍

Helen crying ripped my tiny bit of black wizened heart right out. She always seems so bastard strong and that moved me. It wasn’t like the tragifest that the others have done. It was raw. I didn’t love the dance but I don’t care much for samba anyway. I just love her and Gorka a bit.

Molly, Ellie or Fleur to dance off I think.

It should be Ellie really. The dance didn’t suit her at all. It wasn’t a beezer of a dance. (Not worthy of a 5 though - mean) But I also think Molly and Fleur are at risk. I just didn’t get the dance although both of them can dance.

I’ve been watching a LOT of football though and maybe I’m looking at their footwork all the wrong way. 😏

I get you, @SoupDragon, and totally agree.

I thought Shirley's critique for Hamza's AT- taking Jowita aside and praising her feet- was bonkers. Has anyone ever done that before? Taken Karen Hardy or Aliona Vilani aside and praised her feet?🙄

Absolutely. I couldn't believe it.. showing the Professional Dancer off first?? wtf?
It's supposed to be a competition for the best amateur dancer!!
What were Shirley and Montsi thinking?? Anton and Craig at least critiqued it correctly but the scores just didn't reflect this.
This competition feels rigged to me It seems the BBC are intent on Hamza or Fleur winning and neither are amazing.
I thought Hamza was absolutely dreadful in this. Just awful. It's not his fault though for the following reasons:
Jowita showcased herself
Hamzas costume was dreadful. Black was completely wrong and it didn't reflect Jowitas at all ( there was not even a token sparkle in it to show that they are a partnership) You couldn't actually see his legs as they just blurred into the set. (the lighting is to blame too, he was ill defined)
The Tango is not a dance about the man supporting the woman and blending into the background, it is an equal dance of lead and follow.
If you are lucky enough to watch the dancing on the street in Buenos Aires it is mesmerising and you just don't know who to watch, the man or the woman!
The only positive thing about Hamzas dance was that at least the music was a proper tango!
Quite frankly this series has been a let down.
None of the contestants are outstanding.
The costumes have got worse and worse (over the last few series in my opinion)and in parts look tacky and the colours are sometimes just all wrong.
I feel Vicky (costume designer) is running out of ideas.
The lighting has let down some of the contestants and it has been hard to see their footwork.
The music has been awful. Dreadful choices.
I enjoyed Blackpool and I loved watching Ellie but that's about it.

SoupDragon · 27/11/2022 14:32

Shirley said that about Jowita and then said "and the reason why you looked so good was because of how he lead you"

Calling her to step forward was really strange.

It was like 'good little girl, pat on head' and then it was kinda backhanded saying it was thanks to Hamza, imo.

Figgygal · 27/11/2022 14:39

Just watched last night's show
It really was meh wasn't it
Agree with someone up thread i think this season has run out of steam and also can't think of a dance I would look out for in a few years time
Feel like I'm going through the motions with it now

ChessieFL · 27/11/2022 15:51

Just a reminder that the results show is on at 6pm tonight - bit earlier than usual.

SolInvictus · 27/11/2022 15:56

Just caught up while my Christmas cake is in the oven.
Odd evening.

Thought both Tess, Claude and Motsi all looked like they'd been down the market for a work's Christmas do frock. Usually love Claudia's outfits but she was all kinds of wrong last night.

Will and Nancy- utterly shite music- very good dancing I thought. Though what marred it for me was him saying in the VT they were going to be mirror images of each other, then if you kind of took your gaze outwards and watched from a distance, Nancy was always a nano-second ahead of him. But the judges clearly don't have my keen eye lol.

Shirley saying "nobody knows what to expect after Blackpool" was weird. What? Like we know you're going to give everybody 9 and 10 at Blackpool and then come back to reality? Or you chuck your below 9 paddle in the North Sea? Or you've sobered up (because she literally sounded like she'd been on the bottle last week, or taking "how to shout loudly" lessons from Motsi.

I enjoyed Molly and Carlos (for once) She looked great and though he did go "look at MEEEEEEE!" as usual, she was nicely showcased I thought. @EsmaCannonball agree with your comment about Molly too- everyone acts like she's about 15 rather than 22 and been in the cut throat telly business for years.

Ellie and Johannes- I enjoyed this too. OK, she's never going to be at the same stage as the others, and yes, it's probably long past her time to go, but like Tony Adams, she's having a good time, she's learning to dance, she's enjoying every minute and has a great relationship with her partner. And there's none of that steely grit "I wanna get to the final so badly I'd make the rest of them lick the back of Kym's throat to get Covid" that some of them (Will and Helen) are definitely showing. Motsi's comments were good.

Fleur- loved the VT with Vito explaining the techy bits. Would like more of this and less rending of garments over dead rellies whose favourite show was SCD. Within 10 seconds I'd stopped watching Fleur and just watched Vito. Vito looked like he was dragging a sack of spuds round and the spuds didn't want to be there. If she'd done that dance a couple of weeks ago, she'd have been slated for it, but now she's had 40 there's no going back. (PS Had Vicky Giggles just sewn a bit of extra stuff into Kym's old frock for Fleur? Had an offcut left?)

Hamza- I enjoyed it, but as the rest of you say, what I enjoyed was Jowita. I'm not a dancer, so have no idea if all the stuff about him being a fabulous leader was right or not.

"Is the elephant in the room with the Argentine that if you don't look the part because of height, body shape etc, the whole thing just doesn't work" @MoirasSaggyBundles I think, rightly or wrongly, that could be true.

Helen- bit like Fleur for me last night. The comments in the VT and what she said afterwards "going out and enjoying ourselves" rinse and repeat, didn't translate to the dance. Agree with Craig really. She looked like she'd rather be anywhere else especially during that bit she did on her own with the big Samba moves- seemed really half-hearted. The wheeling her round in the trolley was ludicrous and took about 10 seconds. I actually thought she'd forgotten that it wasn't the end of the dance and the trolley was supposed to be the end bit.

I'd have given my votes to Molly and Ellie. Two to Molly probably because she has no fan base in the public. Hers for me was the best of the night.

I'd like to see Fleur and Helen in the dance off ("based on last night's performance alone" with either to go. It's obviously not going to be them though...can see it being Molly and Ellie, with Ellie to go.

@SeeSawSeen Danny and Oti's samba, Austin Healey's Paso and Tom and Camilla's showdance are the ones I rewatch most often. All 3 make me wish I had danced.

the80sweregreat · 27/11/2022 16:18

These celebs do get paid a fortune for these reality shows ; after ten weeks of it i feel I'd start to 'phone it in ' as they say and bail out gracefully at the first opportunity to get the boot.
Then go on a massive spend up for Christmas!
😂

SoupDragon · 27/11/2022 17:38

I can't decide whether or not I can be arsed to watch it tonight. I'm not sure I'm bothered about who goes home any more.

keepcalm11 · 27/11/2022 17:54

I love the results show, their faces when their name is called to go through, so happy 😂

Sunbird24 · 27/11/2022 18:02

I can’t really be bothered with tonight and I’ve already seen the spoiler so might just see who’s on for the sing-y slot in the middle before going for my shower early

ShakeYourFeathers · 27/11/2022 18:03

Omg the results have just started!!! 😲😲😲

AnneShirleysNewDress · 27/11/2022 18:03

I think it's Tom Grennan @Sunbird24
