Hmm I don't trust him either- his hamstring apparently was a problem during his semi final match against Daniil the other day- I don't think Daniil bought it either - because Djok still manged to miraculously get better, and win. And win the tournament.

His recent injuries are never enough to put him out of action for a few a weeks Angry

JaneJeffer · 11/01/2023 13:17

Well he recovered from a torn abdomen in an hour or so. A hamstring is nothing.

I'd love to hear what the other players really think!

Cilic has withdrawn from AO as well, with a knee injury. Which is a shame. I feel like AO 2018 was his last 'big' event- things went a bit down hill for a while after that.

JaneJeffer · 11/01/2023 13:22

So many injuries

OP posts:
Raahh · 11/01/2023 13:22

Jane he did indeed- I don't think Taylor was too impressed by his antics then, either.

Raahh · 11/01/2023 13:25

I wonder what the other players really think of him- because all we have heard recently is a whole lot of brown nosing about how great it is he back playing in Australia, and that the sport is not the same without him. Which is frankly insulting to the other 99.99999% of players.

JaneJeffer · 11/01/2023 13:27

the sport is not the same without him
That can be interpreted in different ways Grin

Raahh · 11/01/2023 13:42

GrinJane yes, it could.

I do wish he'd disappear.

I think the AO organisers have misjudged the mood a bit- and ordinary Australian fans are actually not that happy about Djok being there- he is playing a practice match against Kyrgios- and tickets are being sold for it at $20 each. Some are not impressed they are promoting 'abusers and anti-vaxxers'. One tweet said- "I'd rather watch an escalator going up and down than anything involving Kyrgios"Grin

I'm not sure if the money raised will go to charity- there was a charity match today (i think) featuring Rafa, for the Ukraine.

Ugh Djok and Dick! Apparently Kyrgios has been bragging about how quickly tickets sold out for his exhibition match - yuk!

I don’t think the other players fall for Djok’s nonsense - on The Tennis Podcast they were saying that Daniil was trolling him in their match by pretending to limp and clutching his leg!

I definitely preferred watching tennis when Djok wasn’t there and would definitely rather watch an escalator going up and down rather than them two - grr - it’s making me cross!

JaneJeffer · 11/01/2023 14:03

Daniil was trolling him in their match by pretending to limp and clutching his leg!
Grin I love Daniil

Raahh · 11/01/2023 14:14

I read that about Daniil, the commentators said he wasn't being very sporting, but to be honest, I think he's seen Djok's game plan once too often. He's been doing it since he was a junior, after all.

kazzaD66 · 11/01/2023 14:25

Yes to all the above comments!!Grin
I saw on the BBC website that Cock and Pospisil are launching their new breakaway union next week. Those two deserve each other but a bit disappointed to read that Ons is also on the committee Hmm

kazzaD66 · 11/01/2023 16:36

Just seen Wimbledon insta post about iconic outfits. A few dubious ones - Serena and Roger obviously Hmm - but pic 10 is a lovely one of the delectable Stefan. I had that shirt in the red, yellow and green colour way Grin
There's also a sleeveless Rafa pic for those of you who may be interested Grin

I see Rublev and Ruud were on the wrong end of upsets earlier in Oz and NZ.

Raahh · 11/01/2023 16:43

kazza I loved Stefan's 80s topsGrin.

I saw that the Anne White body suit was featured- and I suppose there have been a lot of shockers to choose from for Serena (though not always in Wimbledon'white'- the tutus will always be top of the frock horrors for me)- but that ridiculous thing with the 'train' really was quite bonkers.

Raahh · 11/01/2023 16:47

Roger and hisgold monograms.
It's ego-tastic enough when Roger does something like that- but Djok with his actual face on his trainers was another level.

kazzaD66 · 11/01/2023 17:08

Oh God! Seriously?!! I missed that Raahh* *

Raahh · 11/01/2023 17:13

Sorry, kazza I don't think the article showed the trainersGrinI wasjust remembering that Djok did that- and I thought it was a very odd and vain thing to do Grin

I have a vague memory of Berdych having to borrow a pair at one point. But I could be making that up Grin

Fizzywinegum · 11/01/2023 17:15

Sleeveless Rafa is my favourite (obvs) Grin

Roger looks like some sort of crazy dictator in that jacket!

I see they had to put a comment box over Mac’s teeny tiny shorts - I do like that picture of him and Bjorn though Smile

JaneJeffer · 11/01/2023 17:23

Love the Borg/Mac gear and of course Rafa. Don't remember the long trousers - he just looks like he forgot his shorts.

OP posts:
Raahh · 11/01/2023 17:27

I must admit, I think whoever compiled the article had a funny idea of 'iconic'. Roger looking looking like a waiter (though i would argue the 'cardigan' was his standout moment) and sleeveless Rafa were certainly iconic . I think Chrissie in a Ted Tinling dress and frilly knickers would have been 'iconic' for Wimbledon.

Raahh · 11/01/2023 17:28

I do remember how they used to describe Rafa as a 'pirate' in his long shorts Grin

Fizzywinegum · 11/01/2023 17:33

Yes I remember the Rafa ‘pirate’ look Grin

JaneJeffer · 11/01/2023 17:34

And no Agassi

OP posts:
kazzaD66 · 11/01/2023 17:36

Aahh, Teddy Tinling! Most of the ladies wore his designs in the 70s. Some of the dresses were beautiful.
