*letchy, not tetchy.

Thanks a lot, autocucumber. 😡

There’s a nice interview with Hamza in the Guardian today. Really interesting about his life and background.

I'd missed that; just read it. Thanks so much for flagging it. He couldn't be ANY more delightful, could he?!

LaGioconda · 11/11/2022 10:50

I was recently looking at the video of Austin Healey's jive - still one of my favourites - and found myself getting quite nostalgic for the days when they just went out and danced on a plain dance floor with minimal lighting effects, attempts to tell a story or anything -

Also came across this brilliant professional jive which made me quite nostalgic for the generation of professionals at the time I first started watching consistently -

Lentilweaver · 11/11/2022 11:48

That pro jive to Rebel Yell is my fave pro dance ever. No pouting, no posing, no gunning, no CGI. Just pure sharp dance. Ah the Cutlers.

EsmaCannonball · 11/11/2022 18:38

Amar Latif was lovely on Celebrity Masterchef, and a pretty good cook. The first visually-impaired celeb on Strictly?

kazzaD66 · 11/11/2022 18:44

He also did one of the Pilgrimage series on BBC2. He comes across as a really lovely person.

iklboo · 11/11/2022 18:52

I'll be back blogging this week. Last week was DS's birthday on the Sunday but I was still planning to write it up. Except DH forgot to tell me we were going to his cousin's DD's 18th. Which was very lovely as we've not all been together since before Covid.

Brendan and Karen are so extra in that second dance :D

Should preface this by saying I haven’t read the full piece but Jayde still missing the mark about why she wasn’t as popular as anticipated on Strictly - I honestly don’t think it was anything to do with her weight at all (a few trolls on Twitter aside). It was the fact she came across really at odds with how I had expected her to.

Lentilweaver · 12/11/2022 13:50

I couldn't care less about Jayde's size. She was a terrible dancer and frankly unfit to do Latin. Voted for Lisa Riley back in the day who was fabulous and so light-footed. I hate people who play victim. I don't think Ellie S ever did.

FuzzyPuffling · 12/11/2022 14:05

Totally agree lentilweaver

Kindly reminder to all not to post video links so we don't slow the thread to "unusable".

ArcaneWireless · 12/11/2022 14:09

Jayde was my tentative favourite (before she danced) because I thought she was grand in Alma’s not normal.

the reason she swung off my nellies is not to do with size (for I too am a big auld lass) but the references to the ishoos. every bloody week

For someone who cracked on about being a super fan , she didn’t embrace the glory of it and get all giddy with happiness. Oh no.

She'd a face like a skelped arse a lot of the time. And the affectations of nose boopings and having a pro who clung on like a baby koala got wearing.

People aren’t angry because she danced on tv as a big lass.

People are disappointed because she came across as someone who was bitter as feck and didn’t embrace the sparklage of Strictly that most of us would long to do.

And the fact she thinks it was because of fat? She is pickling herself in her own bitterness.

ArcaneWireless · 12/11/2022 14:10

And her dancing wasn’t good enough.

The most bastard important bit of all.

Emotionalsupportviper · 12/11/2022 14:19

Brilliant jive, @LaGioconda . Loved it.

I long for the old days of decent costumes, appropriate music, and lovely dancing.

<sighs>

Same here.

If anything I like to see a larger person have the confidence to put themselves out there and show the world that big isn't necessarily clumsy - as you have pointed out, Lisa Riley was a lovely dancer and a sheer joy to watch.

Unfortunately Jayde had a high opinion of herself as a dancer, and the judges didn't say anything to make her realise otherwise.

<SNORT> 😂

Sunbird24 · 12/11/2022 14:35

Lisa Riley always looked like she was having fun, same goes for Alison Hammond and Chizzy Akudolu (sp?) And all of them had more content in their dances than Jayde did and only occasionally lifted their partners, so I do wonder whether more could have been done with her choreography - what we don’t know is how much input she had into that, it may be that she would have liked to do more actual dancing and wasn’t given the chance, or it may have been that she couldn’t/wouldn’t do it. Either way, it was the dancing and the sob stories that were the issue, not her thighs. I thought she looked fab in her flashdance leotard!

dementedma · 12/11/2022 14:41

Dislike Jayde for her attitude and constant pawing of Karen
Hamza is a bigger chap - although he's shrinking- and comes across as a far more pleasant person. Plus,he can dance.

DameHelena · 12/11/2022 14:43

I liked Jayde when she was on (hadn't heard of her beforehand), but boy is she coming across as bitter now. Maybe she doesn't mean to and that's just the way her interviews are spinning it, but if so then her agent/publicist needs to step in and have a word.

ArcaneWireless · 12/11/2022 14:50

She might not mean it dame but the bitterness and almost scorn (?) seems to properly ooze out.

So maybe more doesn’t mean it but can’t help it…

Such a shame as I really wanted to love her.

I don’t.

ArcaneWireless · 12/11/2022 14:53

EXACTLY that

Perhaps if she hadn’t had so much smoke blown up her hoop she wouldn’t be so full of her own importance.

I watched him on that he's such a lovely man, he runs a travel agency for visually impaired and seeing people .

RangerHamzaHasTheRangeDarling · 12/11/2022 15:02

Loved Alison and Aljaz. Loved Mark and Iveta.
Liked Lisa and Robin. Didn't mind Russell and Flavia.
Adore Hamza.
Size was not the issue.
Fart out loud the very lovely polka set up an adjacent video thread for any links because they automatically embed these days. I can put yours there if you like.
This one has 9 pages to go but someone might like to set up a brand new pristine one for this evening - with the no videos caveat in the OP. I was guilty of bringing a previous thread to a complete standstill in the past. I simply did not know (as I am on a laptop) that other devices got affected! Looking forward so much to Jerusalema. See you all later x

Emotionalsupportviper · 12/11/2022 15:09

I'm on a laptop, too, and was totally unaware that many devices were buggered up adversely affected by my video links.

Sunbird24 · 12/11/2022 15:26

Oh, you’ve just reminded me I need to go out and get some Strictly snacks!
