I watched it but feel I need more time to get into it! Good review in The Guardian, and great name for the series- Khaki Blinders.

I was really looking forward to this, but only lasted 20 mins. I didn't like the 'format' of it at all and totally lost interest.

ShakeYourFeathers · 31/10/2022 22:14

Watched the first episode last night. I really good. I was actually watching not half watching half on my phone.

Just wish they had turned the volume turned up a notch.

You should have stuck with it. In the first couple of episodes they had to get a lot of information over and by the end of ep 2, which is as far as I've got, the unit has been set up and I assume it will move more into focussing on how it develops, the operations it's used for, etc. But I did have to put the volume right up.

Some very easy on the eye actors involved.

DH fancied it and it was his turn to choose. There's just too much testosterone in it for me. The tough maverick who doesn't abide by the rules stuff just makes me cringe.

And I HATE the anachronistic soundtrack. Doing tough manly things in the desert doesn't need a thumping AC/DC (and there's a LOT of AC/DC!) tune to emphasize the tough manliness of it.

That said, the programme overall was OK

BarrelOfOtters · 01/11/2022 21:47

I bloody loved it. Just binged the whole thing.

RaininginDarling · 01/11/2022 23:21

Love Steve's writing, love the Khaki Blinders moniker and really liked the tongue in cheek tone of it all. BUT can we please talk about the absolutely dreadful title? I almost missed it assuming it was some fact ent/reality show...

StrawberryPot · 02/11/2022 08:01

I bloody loved it. Just binged the whole thing.

Same here. Even more gripping knowing it was about real events and real people. And the modern music makes it all seem more immediate and real.

I’m excited to watch this. Absolutely love Connor Swindells I’m Sex Education on Netflix (absolutely worth a watch if you haven’t seen it, just brilliant) and curious to see how he handles this. He’s an amazing actor and does a lot for various charities, his Mum died of bowel cancer when he was about 13 and he does a lot to raise awareness.

Agree the title is awful. I was watching it the same way I watch the Crown, googling 'did that really happen?' and yes, in this series, it did. But sometimes in an even madder way than portrayed. Extraordinary men.

The depiction of the swearing, drinking, fighting between allies, cock ups - all seems very real! And I like the tongue in cheekness of it. And when it needs to have a different tone it managed it mostly pretty well.

The filming, acting and script is very good.

But it's basically just a good old fashioned romp.

Aquarius1234 · 02/11/2022 13:44

Really didn't like this at all.

LookingAtYou · 02/11/2022 18:03

Love this. I found the AC/DC music a bit jarring at first and thought it would all be a bit too silly but by the end of ep 1 I was hooked.

It's kind of like Raiders Of The Lost Ark style wise but so much more impressive when you find out it's all true. Those brave men, just absolutely incredible.

MrsTumblebee · 02/11/2022 18:07

I loved it and binge watched all 6 episodes back to back.

TheOtherBoleynGirls · 02/11/2022 18:40

Just finished the second episode. It’s tosh, but it knows it and plays to its strength and it’s like a Boys Own Adventure with Extra Swearing.

Plus they’re fit. It’s like watching Band of Brothers again. Connor Swindells in aviator shades is fuelling some lovely day dreams right now.

MrsLargeEmbodied · 03/11/2022 06:22

enjoying this
Connor Swindells is excellent, as he was in Sex Education

it did have a great review

MrsLargeEmbodied · 03/11/2022 06:23

i watched it as it was talked about on Today programme

LaGioconda · 03/11/2022 08:38

Another one here who watched because DH wanted to. For some reason I had the impression that it was basically going to be an action series set in modern times, so I was pleasantly surprised to find the historical element which I find more interesting.

TheOtherBoleynGirls · 03/11/2022 09:20

I’ve just started the book as it was only £5 on the Kindle. It’s interesting to see what they’ve changed to make it more suitable for a TV show, but Stephen Knight has really nailed the different personalities of the three leads.

Mosik · 04/11/2022 21:29

Absolutely love this. The style, the humour, the action, the soundtrack it's brilliant.
Just recommended it to DS as Spider Shepherd meets Band of Brothers but better.
I nearly avoided it because I thought it was a reality show. Going to read something by the author next.

Pipsickl · 04/11/2022 21:36

Started watching out of curiosity. I stayed for Jack o Connell 🤣

Carpediem15 · 04/11/2022 21:43

We put it on the bedroom TV on Monday morning and did not get out of bed until we had watched all episodes.
I almost gave up in the middle of ep 2 but glad I stuck with it.

NancyJoan · 04/11/2022 21:45

Just watched ep 3. Am really enjoying it.

To be fair, I’ve spent every episode so far trying to work out who I fancy more between Stirling and Mayne. It’s a very difficult decision.

Have you seen Godless?

Cocolapew · 04/11/2022 22:48

Just saw the first one but enjoyed it, Paddy Mayne is from my town. We're very proud of him even though he was totally bonkers 😄
