Watched episode 1 &2. Cast is good. Soundtrack fab.

Hmmm JD doesn’t have the height though- Mayne was 6ft 4 and that would have made him incredibly imposing without having to resort to flailing his arms about any time anyone disagreed with him.

I really like Jack O’Connell as an actor and he did a great job with the accent but I was sick of the sight of him by the end. The way the character was written was just a complete caricature, speaking in riddles stomping about. I wonder if they’ll do another series, with 2/3 leaders dead or imprisoned for the rest of the war.

Also those fake beards in the fifth episode were so bad. I’ve seen more realistic ones on Santas in the Abbeycentre.

I'm a bit obsessed with Mayne since seeing this keep reading more about him. Ashamed to admit I didn't know anything much about the allies in Africa in ww2, never heard of Mayne, Stirling, Lewes or the amazingly clever LRDG guys. Just an absolutely astonishing group of men and all so young.

I read that Stephen Knight wants to do another 3 series covering events until the end of WW2. I also read that the BBC haven't yet confirmed but filming is rumoured to be starting in early 2023 so fingers crossed it's true. I've watched all 6 over the last 3 days and loved it.

Oh I hope so. I watched the iplayer documentary where they left Africa and were involved in liberating Sicily and then D Day. Plenty more stories to tell with Mayne amd other SAS members like Johnny Cooper and Almonds. Though Stirling would be sadly missed.

Our local Leisure Centre is named after him and I was watching it wondering what he would think of that if he was even half as bonkers as they made him out to be!
