Ellie S. has a good Charleston song, Too Darn Hot, but does this mean they aren't expecting her to reach Musicals Week?

EsmaCannonball · 31/10/2022 19:05

Oh god, I've just had a moment of clarity. It's not going to be a sophisticated Kiss Me Kate Charleston, it's probably going to be Too Darn Hot because the producers have stuck Ellie and Nikita in a sauna or an industrial laundry or something.

You're spot on @hockeygrass about the lack of chemistry having a detrimental impact. You're also right about the height differences not being enough as it's making the lifts look clunky and difficult & making the women look heavy. Only Hamza and Jowita look lovely when doing lifts.

Agree!

Bluffinwithmymuffin · 31/10/2022 19:40

@EvilRingahBitch

I didn’t know applications were open until your post, so thank you! I’ve applied myself. Don’t hold out much hope but keeping fingers crossed. You never know.

EvilRingahBitch · 31/10/2022 19:54

The email for the final few dates just arrived this evening, they were obviously waiting to finalise the coverage& with the World Cup.

Here's the link.

And while you're at it, those of you who live in South Wales who love a bit of old-school glam and a handsome man, can I suggest

EineReiseDurchDieZeit · 31/10/2022 19:56

I'm really surprised by tickets still being applied for, when did they change the system?

OP posts:
EvilRingahBitch · 31/10/2022 20:03

They were obviously still making their mind up about how to juggle the timings of the various World Cup matches, and possibly negotiating with ITV over who would show what, hence the late decision on dates. Normally Strictly dates are set in stone months in advance, but I think they always leave the bookings open and dish the tickets out in batches a few weeks in advance, because the further in advance you allocate them the more no-shows you'll get.

DameHelena · 01/11/2022 11:02

I thought Ellie and Nikita were hamstrung by their song/theme. Yes, it was a bit dull, but what else were they meant to do? V pleased they stayed in. From their faces I think they'd both mentally written their goodbye speeches.
Ellie T was OK but CC is just mucking abaaaaahht really isn't it? (Len: gone but not forgotten).
Hamza was magnetic as always. I get final vibes from him.
Tony was a lot better, but I still feel like he's hulking over Katya in hold.
Molly and Carlos; Craig was unnecessarily cruel saying the lifts were 'ugly' – could have said they need to be smoother or something instead. They lack a bit of chemistry too. But I thought they were not helped by the song; the band arranged it as well as they could, but it is fundamentally lacking that AT sultriness.
Will was good; I liked the stylisation. I love Nancy but I'm still not warming to Will; so nakedly ambitious it turns me off.
Helen was boring. I can see that she's good but she doesn't make me feel anything. I liked the lighting though, the evocation of the forest.
Kym is half-hearted IMO. Quite good as rumbas go though.
Tyler I just didn't get. The concept didn't work for me and although I'm obviously no expert, I didn't see how the dancing itself was THAT brilliant. He's rather dull; every week when he comes on I think 'Oh yes, him' – I forget about him in between times.
Fleur awful. Sorry Fleur and Vito; I quite like them both. But the music was cacophonous, the set and theme were baffling, they looked a mess and she reverted to messy, chaotic Latin, which I thought she'd sorted out.
Not sorry to see James go, although I like Amy; rubbish theme and he just didn't get any character into the dance.

Nikita looked hot as Icarus in his white suit Grin Although I'm not sure the Icarus myth actually involves him being seduced by the ladeeez, does it?

MadamWillYouTalk · 01/11/2022 14:11

He did look good 😁 I thought it seemed like a weird mix of the Icarus and Jason (Argonauts) stories. I assumed at the beginning of the dance that the gold net on his shoulder was the fleece, the men with him the other sailors, and the women were sirens. The appearance of wings at the end really threw me!

picklemewalnuts · 01/11/2022 14:22

I was getting Bollywood Groom vibes. Thought it was a bit appropriative, at first, and got ready to hoick up my judge pants. Then I just got confused!

It looked like the groom was being seduced away by the glittering ladies, while his groomsmen tried to defend him.

But of a muddled concept, clearly.

Wheredoallthepensgo · 01/11/2022 16:21

Themes and music for this week are out.

Tony has a salsa! Go Katya it's going to be epic I feel!

Ellie T has the rumba. Could be a tricky week for her! But st least she might get a bonnie frock.

Strictly changing during the World Cup...

Emotionalsupportviper · 01/11/2022 18:16

According to The Sun (that most or reliable of publications) as reported on Twitter (that most trustworthy of social networking sites), there is trouble in paradise . . .

Waltz to I Guess That’s Why They Call It The Blues by Elton John

This must be played around with a bit — it's normally in 12/8, so you wouldn't count 3 in a bar.

I agree the salsa is going to be epic. When they played a clip on ITT he spontaneously jumped up and did the figure eight feet/hips to it, fairly plausibly. I just hope Katya limits the gimick lifts to stuff that looks great but is within his range, they've screwed up enough moves already this year.

I foresee that Ellie T is going to be in a black and gold ra-ra skirt, or possibly leather trousers, with huge poodle hair and hideous eye makeup. Johannes is going to be in Cuban heels and possibly skin-tight jeans.

ArcaneWireless · 01/11/2022 20:11

I love a bit of Elton.

This is not my favourite but it’ll do. Don’t muck it up please 🙏🏼

I prefer 2⬇️4🥶

I'm a lurker on these threads because I'm in a different timezone and we watch Strictly v late in the day, but you are all fabulous and hilarious.

I have been totally ended by @EsmaCannonball's comment "Do they think women are born with the innate ability to feel comfortable wearing a chiffon catsuit and frotting an Italian to the strains of Dusty Springfield on live television?" 😂

Too lazy to name change, but surely someone wants to adopt FrottingAnItalian as a username?

Wheredoallthepensgo · 01/11/2022 20:30

I snurked at that too Noodle and am seriously considering it for my next name change Grin

Strictly live tour professionals announced and no show from Kai or Gio, such a loss! I won't be going next year.

It does seem to be made up of the newer dancers and benchwarmers (cough Neil) and is a bit disappointing (also missing Katya, Nadiya, Amy, Graz - anyone else?) but sure it would still be a great show. Debating whether to go or not. Saw Gio earlier this year in his This Is Me tour Smile

SolInvictus · 02/11/2022 08:08

I'm not surprised if there is a judges' feud. Craig (whilst being the most objective and sensible of all of them) has to put up with not only the audience booing every comment but Motsi bellowing at him if he dares to say anything other than "go girl/you rock". I had thought her comments were more useful this year, but she's slipped back into the above the last few weeks.
Music not bad for next week. Alone is one of my favourite songs of all time. However, can see a rumba turning into the Johannes show. It shouldn't, because Ellie T has rumba friendly legs and could look magnificent.
On those songs/routines alone, I'd say Fleur will get a big boost from last week, because they'll have been working on her finesse and elegance all week and she'll pull it off like she did after her last dance off.
Ellie S will go back to fun and quirky which will bring her up from last week.
Could be a surprise dance off this week. I'd have said Kym and Ellie S or Ellie T with Kym to go, but I think she'll do an AT well.
