I just can't find anyone I really love in this series - apart from Tony but let's face it, he's never going to win it! Love the little pigs. I do love Johannes but not sure he's got the right partner in Ellie although I really do like her. Maybe next week will be a better, more normal show.

GuyMontag · 30/10/2022 21:02

She already did. Think that was the first week she was in the dance off!

xsquared · 30/10/2022 21:03

If reports of Tony's votes are to be believed, he could probably avoid being in the DO right up to the final.

I'm in the minority perhaps but I don't see Will's appeal and he's not really had an outstanding dance since the Jive in week 1.

Not keen on Kim either, but that might be because I remember her from her Hearsay days and she was very arrogant then. Her dances have been okay so far but not wow.

Tyler is good but I think we need to see him in slower dances for light and shade.

I think definitely Hamza in the final but I really can't call it with the others.

I really hate the phrase "race card". It generally undermines people who know all about racism, i.e., those who have to face it every day of their lives. I'm not 100% sure that it is racism that's putting Fleur in the dance, but I'm 100% sure that there is at least some racism in there. There can't not be because we live in a society that is built on racism. You don't have to be an actual racist yourself to be influenced by racism. Same as you don't have to be a misogynist to be influenced by it.

There is no "race card" there are just people pointing out racism. They might not always be 100% right but they always have a point.

They don't always have a point though.

Every year there are some black celebs and some white ones. White and black end up in the dance off and there have been white and black winners.

The first week of Strictly Kaye and Matt were in the dance off. Nothing said by anyone. The second week was Richie and Fleur, both black and immediately the racism comments started.

I don't dispute that there is racism in the UK although nothing on the scale of some countries (try France) but to say people don't vote for a celeb because of their colour I don't believe is true. Some people may vote that way but I don't think it is a very large percentage.

If we were voting to eliminate celebs it might seem true but people are voting for their favourites and, unfortunately, Fleur is not one of them. Probably because people are underwhelmed by her dances not because she is black, beautiful and confident. I want to enjoy dances not see someone stomp about

xsquared · 30/10/2022 21:04

Oh, and I think Ellie should be given a sparkly dress for a change!

SoupDragon · 30/10/2022 21:05

My feelings about the remaining celebrities:

Ellie S - excellent. Throwing herself into it 100% and enjoying every second
Ellie T - on the fence. She's enjoying it but lacks... something. I read somewhere that she was crap at the elegant part of modelling and was self conscious so maybe it's that.
Hamza - a joy to watch
Tony - absolutely committed and has made a surprising improvement. It's a joy to watch him get better each week and to see him enjoying something ha tmust be alien to him.
Molly - stage school performer so unsurprisingly good.
Will - irritatingly over confident.
Helen - I get no feeling from her really. Competent.
Kym - again, competent. Strangely lacking in emotion, it all seems a facade.
Tyler - love him. Seems. To be genuinely enjoying himself and doing well
Fleur - competent again. More emotion/feeling than Helen or Kym though.

ArcaneWireless · 30/10/2022 21:05

Jayde may have been a bit ringery but she was accused of being stompy too.

And she’s gone. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Tabbouleh · 30/10/2022 21:08

13 years of competitive dance at her aunt's stage school. I can't honestly believe we are comparing Jayde and Fleur. Jayde walked around the floor- in fact she couldnt get off it- and wept for 5 weeks.

Frezia · 30/10/2022 21:09

I thought the common thread between the two couples in the dance off tonight was that their dances felt like they were shoehorned into the Halloween theme unlike the others that somehow made more sense.

James had to go, he didn't do mistakes like Fleur but he barely did any dancing at all. I don't particularly rate Amy as a choreographer either and thought he perhaps could've done more with a better partner. Fleur lacks consistency and also would've probably benefitted from a different partner.

I don't think young black women are disliked but I do believe more is expected of them.

ArcaneWireless · 30/10/2022 21:09

Ellie T should get a beautiful frock. Something like they would give the pros like Luba or Natasha or Erin.

She is tall and elegant and beautiful enough to waft about in a sparkle of loveliness. Her pins are to die for.

She deserves costume love.

GuyMontag · 30/10/2022 20:48

@FuzzyPuffling yeah it's racism + misogyny. Double whammy. You see it in other settings too. Eg the millions of threads on Mumsnet and the millions of tabloid stories about Meghan Markle and how wrong she is when at the same time there's an actual pedophilic prince everyone could be getting mad about but he's a guy and white and born into it.

Most times when people say "I don't know what it is but I just don't like her" it's because the person they're talking about is black. And female.

I don't agree that most times when someone says "I don't know what it is but I just don't like her" the person is black or female.

I'll name the females I don't like and an awful lot of people agree with me: Amanda Holden, Holly Willoughby, Davina McCall. Males are: Philip Schofield and Paddy McGuinness. All white.

For what it's worth I really like Meghan. Far more than I like Kate

ArcaneWireless · 30/10/2022 21:13

Not Natasha. Natalie.

sorry.

the80sweregreat · 30/10/2022 21:18

I would like Hamza to win.
Anyone but Will , I like him but he is so desperate to get that glitter ball isn't he?

Gooseysgirl · 30/10/2022 21:19

GuyMontag · 30/10/2022 20:36

Urgh. Racism isn't a card. We have been here before with Alexandra Burke. Beautiful capable young-ish black women do not do well on Strictly or on any platform that invites wide public comment. It's depressing.

But, I don't want to cause a row. I mean, I know it's true and once you see it, you see it. But if you don't, I can't make you.

Again I agree with everything you have said. Chizzy and Tameka come to mind too, both strong confident women like Fleur and were early exits from Strictly. I think it's likely that there is some unconscious racial bias happening in the voting to be honest.

Chizzy and Nina Wadia both deserved to go further.

I dont like Will. I don’t know what it is but I don’t like him from what I’ve seen on the show. I dont think from what I’ve seen he’s not putting the effort in but I’ve not actually seen it. Am I not allowed to say this?

FitYeDaeinYeMadRadge · 30/10/2022 21:23

I feel I have to pipe up about AJ.

I really thought she would have won that year if she hadn’t knackered her foot.

Confident, beautiful and bloody hell such a fab dancer.

wish she could be given another chance.

I loved AJ! She absolutely looked the part amd I was rooting for her or Rose to win, but she was robbed with her foot injury.

Think she should do a one off show dance with Kai for closure, but I reckon they'll get her for Christmas special in a couple of year's time.

FitYeDaeinYeMadRadge · 30/10/2022 21:28

That quickstep, the dress, everything just blew me away. The pom-poms on her arms detracted from her beautiful arms a shade but it was glorious.

she should have won on that dance alone.

XanaduKira · 30/10/2022 21:28

I loved AJ - she was just phenomenal. I'd love her to be given another chance too but not sure how that would work. Perhaps she could do the Strictly Christmas special with Kai again or do the tour with Kai. I'd love to see her live.

Me too. AJ and Kai were my favourites

mydogisthebest · 30/10/2022 21:31

Oh yes I forgot about AJ. I think she could well have won last year and she was black, beautiful and extremely confident. She could also dance from week one so pretty sure a lot of viewers saw her as a ringer.

AnneShirleysNewDress · 30/10/2022 21:31

I bloody loved AJ. I'm still gutted we didn't see their finale dance.

Frezia · 30/10/2022 21:34

Yes, AJ was one of my favourite contestants ever. Beautiful woman, beautiful dancer and her partnership with Kai was dreamy.
