But has that been supplanted by BBC week for a year?

Crosses Fingers

The themes are so limiting

I hope so!

Ellmau · 30/10/2022 20:35

Anton was right, both were worse second time around, but Fleur is the better dancer overall and was better yesterday, so right for James to go.

Sadly, I think we're going to keep on seeing one or more of Fleur, Kym and Molly in the danceoff each week, and probably one of them will go home next week. They just don't seem to have the fans.

Tyler is the one who leaves me cold so far.

SolInvictus · 30/10/2022 20:36

Just flicked through to the end. Can't be did with the group dances anymore.

I thought it might be those 2 and the right one went. Nice bloke, but like Amy's a nice girl. Nice ain't going to set the town on fire and the bee thing was dire.

I'm team Hamza to win for now.
Hamza, Tyler and Will top 3.
Tony and Helen will be last men standing before the final. If it's a 4 final then probably Helen.

Neither Molly nor Fleur seem to have an obvious Strictly fan base which won't be helping. I'm an old gimmer who's watched it since The Puppets and have never heard of either of them. I also have a feeling that a lot of Ellie T's votes might be for Johannes. Over on FB Strictly page it's full of Johannes this and Johannes that and well done Ellie for keeping him in!

Urgh. Racism isn't a card. We have been here before with Alexandra Burke. Beautiful capable young-ish black women do not do well on Strictly or on any platform that invites wide public comment. It's depressing.

But, I don't want to cause a row. I mean, I know it's true and once you see it, you see it. But if you don't, I can't make you.

kazzaD66 · 30/10/2022 20:38

So what about Alesha Dixon?
Won it and then became a judge.

I voted like a demon for Alexandra. I thought she was fantastic. I liked her oomph. Sigh. However, I think she got an opportunity in the West End?

I didn't vote for Fleur because there were others I preferred. That isn't racist.

Cascais · 30/10/2022 20:39

Alexandra Burke won X factor

FuzzyPuffling · 30/10/2022 20:41

"Beautiful, capable, young-ish black women..."
So it could just as easily be sexism then?

I think people just vote for their favourite dancer/personality. I'm not one for putting any kind of "ism" spin on it.

Tabbouleh · 30/10/2022 20:43

I think most voters like a journey- physical, mental, disability, overcoming great odds- and some oddbods like me prefer the non- journeyers:) That's fine.

XanaduKira · 30/10/2022 20:43

@GuyMontag Alexandra Burke was one of the most annoying contestants ever on Strictly. I can't warm to her at all as she always seems to fake (even now when you see her in interviews) and full of herself. I'd feel the same whatever race she was.

I also don't like Neil for very similar reasons - doesn't seem genuine at all and is completely full of himself.

I do love Fleur but don't think her dancing is as good as it could be and she was definitely stompy last night. The correct 2 were in the DO & it's good that James went.

I reckon top 3 will be Hamza (for the win), Tyler and Tony. I'd also like to see Ellie S there too as she and Nikita bring me joy!

I loved Alexandra. A wonderful dancer

Tabbouleh · 30/10/2022 20:46

Molly's annoying too but I don't care because I am not marrying her:)

GuyMontag · 30/10/2022 20:48

@FuzzyPuffling yeah it's racism + misogyny. Double whammy. You see it in other settings too. Eg the millions of threads on Mumsnet and the millions of tabloid stories about Meghan Markle and how wrong she is when at the same time there's an actual pedophilic prince everyone could be getting mad about but he's a guy and white and born into it.

Most times when people say "I don't know what it is but I just don't like her" it's because the person they're talking about is black. And female.

IReallyLikeCrows · 30/10/2022 20:48

Fleur was lucky she was in the dance off with a dud because the mistakes second time around would have seen her off against someone who could dance.

Next week will be interesting because we're now left with a group of people who can all dance well to a lesser or greater degree. It could be a bit of a shocker bottom two next Sunday. I'm quite evil so I hope it is.

SoupDragon · 30/10/2022 20:51

some times.

ArcaneWireless · 30/10/2022 20:52

Fleur is going to be put in the "Confident young woman; let's take her down a notch!" box.

See Tabbouleh if it was just that then Ellie S would be right alongside her. And she ain’t.

I’ve not seen anyone with the confidence and sass and joy that Ellie shows. She might not always really feel it inside but it just shows on her coupon and I love that about her.

Nikita has struck bloody lucky because you know she is going to have the sparkle to go with her feet.

Fleur just doesn’t show The insides of the bag to me. You get the cracking designer exterior but the inside feels like it has sweeties that have stuck to the cloth, crumbs and change and pen marks.

It should have a diamond encrusted compact and a swing me hard red lipstick. And perhaps a spare pair for going home in the morning.

Sorry. 🤷🏻‍♀️

As I said above, it’s a shame because she could rip that floor right up.

IReallyLikeCrows · 30/10/2022 20:54

I really hate the phrase "race card". It generally undermines people who know all about racism, i.e., those who have to face it every day of their lives. I'm not 100% sure that it is racism that's putting Fleur in the dance, but I'm 100% sure that there is at least some racism in there. There can't not be because we live in a society that is built on racism. You don't have to be an actual racist yourself to be influenced by racism. Same as you don't have to be a misogynist to be influenced by it.

There is no "race card" there are just people pointing out racism. They might not always be 100% right but they always have a point.

It's not true and you only see it because you want to.

Black contestants have won Strictly. Alexandra Burke obviously wasn't popular with the audience but not because she is black or because she is beautiful (not everyone would think she is anyway).

I like Fleur and was looking forward to seeing her dance but her dances have been dull dull dull and she is far too stompy. I would say that if she were white or any other colour

Tabbouleh · 30/10/2022 20:56

When I said confident young woman, I meant in the mould of Ashley Roberts, Alexandra Burke, Maisie Smith etc . I don't think Ellie S fits in that box. She is in the plucky trier box.

I also think Ellie's performances are at least half down to Nikita's great choreo, and Fleur has been rather unlucky with Vito, who reminds me of 2018 Graziano, bit of a preener.

GuyMontag · 30/10/2022 20:58

LOL. Fleur literally hung upside down round a guy's neck while he spun around fast, James walked about the stage and waved his arms around a bit but they were both in the dance off. What more could she have done?

ArcaneWireless · 30/10/2022 20:59

Ah - the confident young ringer box - got ye 😉

Calmdown14 · 30/10/2022 21:00

I just want to see less awkward lifts and more dancing. For the first 20 seconds I thought Fleur was going to be dance of the night but after the big lift it was like she was trying to catch up with her own body. You feared disaster although she did do well holding it all together (second time showed how on edge it was).
A slightly simpler routine executed with more finess would have been better.

Alexandra Burke was an excellent dancer but was from pretty much week one. I think it's why Tyler won't win although he's not really a ringer (or Molly). Same for Ashley Roberts, Pixie Lott, the one from JLS.
Whether it's fair or not people expect singers who perform routines to be good.

Tony will survive until he has to do Latin!

Tabbouleh · 30/10/2022 21:01

ArcaneWireless · 30/10/2022 20:59

Jayde was a ringer actually. Not Fleur.
Fleur should weep and cry a bit.
