Ellie S should have been Edna from the incredibles, she looked so like her 😍

I think part of the problem with their dance was that Nikita would usually have been taking huge strides, but obviously can't do that with Ellie, which resulted in it looking even slower and boring

I also can't warm to her, now that stomper has gone Kym is the one that just leaves me cold and I'm not sure why. She is not the worst dancer, has done a few good dances, looks the part and yet there seems to be no passion when she dances. It's like she is going through the motions, but where is the feeling for the music and dance?

For me, she seems to have a polished barrier up in front of any emotion. I agree that she is going through all the motions of the dance and executing the steps well but there is no feeling. Contrast that with Tony who might not be executing the steps well but is throwing his heart into it.

Twonewcats · 30/10/2022 10:49

I honestly think Kym's newish teeth have affected how she looks too. She looked far better and more normal before

RobertsRadio · 30/10/2022 10:50

Yess! That is it exactly.

Romeiswheretheheartis · 30/10/2022 10:54

Tess just can't think quickly enough to go off script can she, and when she does try it either falls flat or wasn't necessary for her to have butted in in the first place. Last night Anton said to Tony 'You were unrecognisable!' and Tess cut in with 'So are you Anton, so are you' when Anton was obviously talking about Tony's dancing improvement, not his outfit! Anton just looked baffled and moved on.....

Trampoline11 · 30/10/2022 11:02

Can I ask a question about voting? I only started watching last year but am finding the voting confusing!

Why don't the public vote for who danced the best as surely that's what it's all about? I'm sure I'm missing something but people seem to not vote for the ones that have high scores from the judges as they're deemed safe. Surely if everyone did that the scores would be as unfair as some of the judges scores are?

Hope that makes sense!

XanaduKira · 30/10/2022 11:19

I really enjoyed all the dances but my favourite was Hamza.

I'm someone who likes Tess - think she does a good job. I don't want a presenter who makes it all about them or goes off script cracking jokes etc but rather like that she's there to keep things moving forward and she always looks lovely!

Loved Claudia's dress last night too.

RoachTheHorse · 30/10/2022 11:23

I love Tess and Claudia. I think they are a good balance. I still really enjoyed enjoy the show. It's light entertainment so I try not to get too hung up on it, although I do dislike it when the judges mark wildly out of sync with what the dance was. Last night was a good example of that.

Starting so high on dance one left them nowhere to go and while ut was an improvement on his dances previously it clearly wasn't worth such high scores. That just makes a mockery of it being a comp for me. Love Craig though.

XanaduKira · 30/10/2022 11:24

Craig looked amazing as did Motsi and agree that he scores in a much more realistic way!

The public do have the option to vote for the best dancer, in their own opinion - up to three times!

The scores get aggregated with the judges scores, so if a huge fan favourite is last on the leaderboard but gets most of the public votes, then that would push them up the leaderboard and away from the dance-off.

SoupDragon · 30/10/2022 11:52

People are asked to vote for their favourite dancers so it isn't all about who danced the best, otherwise the Ringers would win every year.

I've voted for those who I think have been unfairly marked low and those who I want to see dance the next week.

Trampoline11 · 30/10/2022 11:56

Ok. Thanks for explaining. I really enjoy reading these threads.

the80sweregreat · 30/10/2022 12:03

Claudia is better at the ad Lib than Tess is, but they are a good pairing I think and clearly get on ok.

This! It was so obvious he was taking tiny tiny steps to suit her.

I hope he's getting loads of support with choreography and input from the judges about what he should and shouldn't do as a reasonable adjustment!

For example the lifts- I felt that prolonged lift should have been exempted from being illegal because she has such a long way to go to get up and down!!

picklemewalnuts · 30/10/2022 12:19

And I like Tess! She's much more than a foil for Brucey and now Claud! I assume she has a lot going on in her ear, and occasionally looks distracted as a result.

StellaAndCrow · 30/10/2022 12:24

Just watched Tony's dance again - Katya is SO GOOD isn't she! She somehow manages not to out-dance him, whilst making them both look good. He's said (semi-jokingly) that he's scared of her - there's just one point where he's checking with her that he's doing ok! So good, the thing I love about strictly is seeing people putting in the effort and learning something new.

StellaAndCrow · 30/10/2022 12:25

If I was on there I'd be like Anneka Rice - I remember Kevin saying it took 6 hours to teach her one step in the Charleston (hence all the running around I think). I'd get it in the end but not before the end of a ten week series!

Trampoline11 · 30/10/2022 11:56

Yeah, the public can vote for whoever they like and for whatever their reasoning, which is usually why viewers get peed off when the judges' scores are so off, as they're supposed to be the ones judging on the actual dancing.

I know that Craig and Anton judge things differently but a 7 and a 10 from them for the same person is utterly ridiculous

SolInvictus · 30/10/2022 13:23

Caught up now.

Thought Tony was great, loved it, you can see he cares about improving, his footwork was good, and can't beat a bit of fiddle playing. Agreed totally with Anton's comments.

Wasn't keen on Will. Appreciate the creativity of the choreography and he's a great dancer, but it didn't work for me and the song choice was random. I could just hear Len talking about "faffing abaht" all way through. He just hasn't improved for me like lots of the others. He's one of the best dancers though, no doubt.

Kym, I'm another one that can't make her out. She's a good dancer, she follows Graziano's instructions and follows them well. But I do agree there's just something missing. There doesn't seem to be any chemistry between them, even rolling out the fam for the video, he seemed to be grinning and bearing it with his "it was fantastic to meet all Kym's family (with the unspoken "again, after we had him going round for dinner- I'd quite like, along with nans/fams/sob stories, if they could stop "showing the Italians (for example) what an eel and mushy pea dinner is" (for example) Grump grump. (Do agree about the MIL's face- hilarious)

James. Wtf. His acting in the VT was pure cringe. The dance wasn't bad in Charleston-y bits, Motsi nailed it by saying it was the bits in-between. Even Amy looked stiff and jerky. I'll have him in the dance-off I think.

Molly and Carlos- was OK. But I've already forgotten it. She doesn't deserve the dance off though, it's just me not quite getting her. I do agree with Anton I did spot Kym's MIL again looking like she was chewing on Amy's bumblebee though. Gobsmacked at the points. Her leg was never straight (when it was supposed to be I mean!)

Tyler and Diane- couldn't take my eyes off Diane. For the first half, she completely eclipsed him (didn't help she was standing in front of him) so she quite literally eclipsed him. And I'd forgotten it was a cha cha for the first bit and thought it was a sambasalsa hybrid.

Helen and Gorka, started well, then I agree with Craig. Mechanical. And usually a traditional dance would please me, but I just found that boring.

Hamza- agree with Craig and Anton. Good, not his best. His coat hid some of his undoubtedly good moves as well.

Fleur and Vito- ouch. My ears. My eyes. No nuance. Just stomping and in your face. Dance off for me. Agree with Anton and Craig.

Ellie S and Nikita- not as bad as I was expecting given the comments yesterday but the speed was odd. Might be in trouble tonight.

Ellie T- yep, agree with comments about the Johannes show. I think the choice of camera angle was a bit to blame last night in fairness, but the whole thing showcased him not her.

The judges disagree with me at every step obviously 😂

My bottom two are: James and Fleur with James to go.

My favourite was Tony 🤣

picklemewalnuts · 30/10/2022 13:28

Fleur has such power. Just need to find the heart, I reckon.

I like James- I liked his GoG dance. I don't think we've found his personality yet. Whereas Will popped up instantly, he's a great communicator!

SolInvictus · 30/10/2022 13:30

My votes would have gone to Tony, Tyler and Ellie S (because she had a duff week and is better than that)

MrsLargeEmbodied · 30/10/2022 13:31

mine would be tyler and ellie s
but i didnt vote

Yeah, I'd agree.
Will has a big personality and has been around for years. Receptionist in Casualty was where I first saw him, then winning Fame Academy for Children in Need or sth? So he's got the whole "performance" thing 100%. James seems a nice guy but not a "performer".

Fleur reminded me a bit of Alesha Dixon in her showdance, but much less refined and controlled- the raw power though.

picklemewalnuts · 30/10/2022 13:48

What amazes me every year is the complexity of dance.

The judges often see and articulate something I'm 'feeling' but can't identify.

There is so much to it- technique , emotion, communication, musicality...

I had a friend who was an accomplished pianist, but everything sounded like Bach- tick-tock, by the book, rattling through the notes. I see dancers online who are like that. Glittering but hard.

That's what some of the contestants haven't found yet, and why would they after so few weeks?

Wheredoallthepensgo · 30/10/2022 15:18

Just watched now so too late to vote, dammit.

Tony - loved it! Katya really is a evil genius. He has definitely improved so much with her flogging him to death. Actually felt real pride in him getting a score in the 30's, well done!

Will is good, but I was watching Nancy. She's incredible. Im really seeing her strengths this year that I didn't so much last year. I don't feel like Will has moved on as much as some of the others.

Kym looked elegant and the pace suited her. Graz was smoking hot as a frozen greybeard, ooft!! One of the better rhumba's I've seen recently.

James - I thought the lifts looked really uncomfortable and not steady, I was surprised by the judges saying they were good. Think he could be in trouble.

Molly - I liked it and thought the judges were quite harsh given she was coming back from the dance off. She looked incredible. I always get the feeling that Carlos is a bit - smug? Like he thinks he's amazing.

Tyler - it was fun and did make me smile. My god, Dianne danced her little black shorts off to make it look good didn't she? It wasn't a 10 for me though, not even close. But I like their pairing.

Helen - she seems so concerned with getting it right that she comes across to me as emotionless. Her smile (like last week in the Charleston) looks more like a fixed rictus grin than a natural warmth. A flash of fun with the cheeky wink at the end - we need more of that Helen! As she is technically one of the stronger ones.

Hamza. I luffs him and I want to have his babies even though I'm in the menopause when he spun Jowita I came over all unnecessary as we say on MN. I feel they were under marked at 33, it was one of my faves. They are a great pair.

Fleur - too much, too mad. Craig was right. The singer didn't completely murder Beyoncé though so thanks for small mercies.

Ellie S. loved the VT intro, best one of the night. Her footwork really was beautiful but she was so let down by that awful choreography!! She's better than that! I really really hope loads have voted for her to stay in!! (Can't bear to look!) so worried for her!

Ellie T. I felt the judges were really taking this one up (closing the show) but for me there's wasn't much dance content just lots of gurney faces and jumping round a pot. It was far too simple and didn't deserve 35, nowhere near for me. Bizarre!!

I'd have voted for Hamza, Ellie S (maybe twice) and Tony I think.
