New 6 part drama. Series 1 was good - thread here

not sure if s2 carries on or completely new story /characters as the names don’t ring a bell

Christine’s family, oldest son Will (Lloyd Everitt), youngest son Jamie (Aaron Anthony) and daughter Megan (Mali Ann Rees), are trying to get on with their lives after the recent tragic death of their brother Liam.

As they look forward to Megan’s wedding, the family have their lives turned upside down when a stranger, Connor (Jordan Wilks), arrives in town claiming a connection that nobody could have imagined.

As buried secrets come to light, they must consider who they are and grapple with morality and divided loyalty. As their lives spiral out of control, a terrible pact may be all that can save them.

OMG! Dramatic or what!

Blondeshavemorefun · 28/11/2022 22:01

@Emotionalsupportviper you may now talk 😂

Blondeshavemorefun · 28/11/2022 22:02

Omg. I didn't expect that ending. None of the kids were hers and she stole them all

Not sure how Liam and Connor were 3mths apart - was the father the same in the squat who was their dad and diff mums

But why they looked so similar

And mum jumped as couldn't face what she did

What was in the envelope they burnt

Child in car seat. Older brothers kid. His back head seat needs to be higher

Always bugs me when they don't use suitable car sets

Lovely they /daughter are adopting

Thought doesn't explain everything. Did Christine kill her friend

Why did husband go along with it then leave

OP posts:
Blueberrycreampie · 28/11/2022 22:40

The envelope contained Jamie's confession- he'd written it all down. No need for it now as mum confessed to giving Connor a lethal drug dose and recorded it on her phone. Don't think she killed her friend? Her sister died while drink driving. Yes a lot of loose ends, maybe more info in The Guardian review?

Blondeshavemorefun · 28/11/2022 23:32

Thanks about Jamie’s confession. Makes sense

I know Christine left a voice note on Bench but we didn’t hear it but gathered she confessed

who sister died drink driving ?

diddl · 29/11/2022 08:23

I'd guessed that the kids weren't hers.

Why the husband went along with it goodness only knows!

How in holy hell did she afford that house?

So the kids were all pretty screwed up despite her "saving" them!

Liam on drugs, Will an angry bully, Jamie messed up because he was bullied by Will!

Emotionalsupportviper · 29/11/2022 10:41

In my early speculation I thought that she and her friend had killed her husband, and that that is what the big secret they had was. I was wrong.

ageingdisgracefully · 29/11/2022 10:44

Felt that far too much was squeezed into the last episode.

lazymum99 · 29/11/2022 10:45

I think they mentioned that the house was what she had managed to get from her marriage. He was a GP so I suppose in Wales they could have managed it. Or he inherited it. But it was definitely linked to the husband

Blondeshavemorefun · 29/11/2022 10:47

So was liam and Connor twins

if so where was he when she stole Liam

how did ss get his birth date wrong By 3mths if was twins

if wasn’t then did dad get 2 woman preg

OP posts:
diddl · 29/11/2022 11:14

So was liam and Connor twins

Don't think so.

He was Liam's brother but for some reason when Christine stole Liam, he wasn't "known about".

So already fostered out?

Not sure that it was ever really explained.

Or it was & I missed it!

ageingdisgracefully · 29/11/2022 12:27

Were we supposed to think that Liam was the baby's father?

I liked the programme overall - lots of tension and atmosphere - but felt it was let down in the end by being too far-fetched. My imagination can stretch to Christine's having stolen one child, but the others? Nah. 😄

Oh!

I thought they were twins and that she missed one of them when she found the other - I just assumed the poor little sossidge was hidden under piles of rags and rubbish in a junkie's flat.

Of course, the reason she couldn't let the kids' DNA be tested (an obvious solution) was that none of them would have matched Connor's - or each others'. Why didn't she suggest, though, that only one of them sent their DNA off to compare to his? Then it wouldn't match and they could draw a lie under the whole sorry thing?

I also wondered why Connor was so bliddy certain that he was her son. Why would he not just take telling?

I felt sorry for her flaky alkie mate, though. She hadn't coped with the big secret at all, and yet it barely impacted her life.

I was also curious why her her friend - the one married to the headmaster - was like a rabid bloodhound regarding "the truth". Honestly - if someone I had known for 30 years had assured me that some homeless stalker wasn't her child, I would have accepted it, even if he did look the spitting image of her late son.

Doppelgängers exist.

Wouldn't Kate have known if she was expecting twins?

I thought that Liam had been dumped on Kate's door step?

Possible Connor was a twin & dumped elsewhere?

Can anyone remember the birthdates?

Didn't Connor say that his wouldn't be quite right?

How do you get birth certificates etc?

diddl · 29/11/2022 14:14

I also wondered why Connor was so bliddy certain that he was her son. Why would he not just take telling?

Because he knew that he had a sibling & had assumed it was Liam?

lazymum99 · 29/11/2022 15:10

I felt that they were twins and when she went to the mothers flat with the other social worker they only found the one baby which they ‘rescued’

Timeforachange67 · 29/11/2022 15:10

I definitely didn’t expect all the kids weren’t hers either
I did wonder how she afforded that huge house!

But if Kate was the mother's social worker-wouldn't she have been infirmed?

lazymum99 · 29/11/2022 16:20

Yes. That doesn’t really make sense. But an awful lot of the story doesn’t make sense!

ageingdisgracefully · 29/11/2022 16:39

And what was the point of the dying mother?

butterpuffed · 29/11/2022 16:54

I've only just seen it , so didn't look in here last night .

I think she never let her mother and her 'children' meet as she would know she had never been pregnant.

So many untied loose ends though ~ Kayla never actually said her baby was Liam's .
What was Christine's hold over the police officer , it was never explained .
Where were all the parents of Christine's 'children' ? Even if they were all in care , someone would notice 4 children disappearing !
Why was Beth's husband always sneaking off with his phone, that wasn't explained either unless I missed it .

I don't think Christine killed herself because she couldn't face what she'd done, think it was more because she was losing control with everything unravelling .

I did enjoy it all though, it was very tense , was glued .

diddl · 29/11/2022 17:41

Why was Beth's husband always sneaking off with his phone, that wasn't explained either unless I missed it .

He was talking to Christine's husband.

purpleme12 · 29/11/2022 17:51

I think she stole the babies because we're supposed to believe her mother was an awful mother and messed her up basically. So she wanted to rescue these babies (in her mind) and give them what she didn't have (in her mind) and make a family that she didn't have.

I think she killed herself because she loved her children ultimately and she didn't want her children to take the blame and be punished for killing Connor so she made it so the phone recorded that she had caused his death so the children would get off with as much as they could

Emotionalsupportviper · 29/11/2022 18:10

lazymum99 · 29/11/2022 15:10

That's the impression I got.

Didn't Connor say that his wouldn't be quite right?

I think that was because he was "found" and his birth hadn't been registered, so the authorities will have made up a birthday for him based on his apparent development. Many, if not most, women can look at an infant and estimate age, and doctors will be able to as well.

Because he knew that he had a sibling & had assumed it was Liam?

But what made him assume it was Liam? Hadn't he been round umpteen other possible mothers and they'd all said he wasn't theirs? (I shouldn't have binged - much detail is lost in the mists of time and gin)

I definitely didn’t expect all the kids weren’t hers either I did wonder how she afforded that huge house!

Britain's famously generous family allowance, obviously.😁

Where were all the parents of Christine's 'children' ? Even if they were all in care , someone would notice 4 children disappearing !

I thought that they were all babies who had been abandoned - empty flats, stairwells etc, but I could just have assumed that.

And what was the point of the dying mother?

I think Christine's awful mother was to show how she hadn't received any love and nurturing as a child, and that this had left her desperate to be loved (by the children - this is common in girls who haven't been mothered) and also made her determined to make sure that "her" kids got all of the love and protection that she was denied as a child.
