Series 2 starts tonight on BBC 1 but I've just spotted all episodes are on iPlayer already. I loved the first series, is anyone else watching?

OP posts:
Magissa · 27/09/2022 20:33

I did feel some of it was incredibly graphic! I did really like the series though. Good that all the episodes are there already! May watch it all over the weekend.

Yumsnet · 27/09/2022 20:44

Ooo I didn’t know this. I enjoyed the first series, so it’ll be next on my watch list!

Madeintowerhamlets · 27/09/2022 21:01

Yes I’m watching! Loved the first series. Forgot the episodes were an hour long so it will take me a while to work through them. The characters are so unlikeable!

maranella · 29/09/2022 19:29

I've binged the whole of S2 now and would love to chat to anyone else who has!

I think there was less graphic sex in this series, which was welcome, also after the first couple of episodes there was less drug-taking, also welcome. I dunno - I'm getting old and boring, but I don't want to watch people snorting cocaine and banging each other for an hour at a time! 😂

lugeforlife · 29/09/2022 19:37

I'm about half way through now. I like Harpers hair, sober Kenny and Rishi. Oh and Gus with his blue hair.

I do not like anything else about Harper, Yas and Robert in the car with predator woman.

maranella · 29/09/2022 19:58

Yes, it's interesting to have such an unlikeable and mysterious central character for a series. I do find Harper very compelling though - she is utterly Machiavellian and self-interested - which is quite fascinating.

I definitely knew people like Kenny, Jackie and Rishi when I worked for an IB.

pennyfairweather · 30/09/2022 08:58

Has anyone watched the whole thing yet? I need to talk about the ending!

maranella · 30/09/2022 09:09

Yes, me! I'd like to talk about the ending too.

Madeintowerhamlets · 30/09/2022 14:52

I’ve watched the whole thing too and felt utterly depressed by the end of it. I found the corruption (re: health contracts, oxbridge etc.) & how cynical the financial sector is felt very accurate and made me feel despair given the political climate. I think in the first series there was more hope as they were just starting out as grads & were less disillusioned. Quite a twist at the end!

Madeintowerhamlets · 30/09/2022 14:54

I felt most depressed for Robert as he was one of the more likeable characters (imo) & he just seemed so defeated & washed up by the end.

pennyfairweather · 30/09/2022 15:44

maranella · 30/09/2022 09:09

Yes, me! I'd like to talk about the ending too.

So, why would that happen? Why would he do that?!

goyuwer · 30/09/2022 18:32

Only two episodes in, agree everyone is so unlikeable and i have absolutely no idea whats going on.
Why is Harper living in the hotel and who is paying for it?

@pennyfairweather I reckon it's probably that Rishi did a deal with Eric after he left the pub. He clearly read between the lines of Harper's phone call (where she called Eric Dad to try and cover up who she was talking to). Rishi doesn't trust Harper at all - they hated each other for most of S2 - and at the end he called her 'poison', if you remember. I reckon he said to Eric keep me instead, because I'm more valuable now she's lost Jesse as a client, but you've got to get rid of her. And as Eric knows how dangerous she is and probably wants to keep Rishi, he agreed. It's dog eat dog, ya know?

I don't know why she's living in the hotel - maybe it's just convenient - but you find out at the end of the series who paid for it.

Gonksmum · 30/09/2022 19:06

Love this! IMO most interesting characters are Harper and Eric.

Gonksmum · 30/09/2022 19:12

I'm sure this has been mentioned before, but it's got a strong This Life vibe too ( but Industry is inferior, I think).

Aargh I’m sorry I saw this comment before I finished it. He’s the most likeable by far.

Oh no, sorry you saw this before you finished! I was going to put a spoiler warning in but then I didn’t as I wasn’t sure how much of it was just my interpretation. I should have done though!

SPOILER WARNING FOR LAST EPISODE….
Yes that was my interpretation too. Also it kind of summed up how you can’t really trust anyone in that world. Even Eric who had become like a father figure. It was fitting really.

Kitkatcatflap · 01/10/2022 04:18

I loved it. Harper is completely compelling. It would have been so easy to make her the underdog made good, instead of the anxiety ridden all about the thrill of the chase character. She has zilch loyalty - except to the self pitying brother who rejects her. Having said that she doesn't seem to bear a grudge either - not remembering the cutting remarks both she and Yasnin made to each other. Great to watch but wouldn't trust her in a zombie apocalypse.

Although Eric claims he is 'doing it' for her at the end of the last episode, I think it's revenge. When they were outside smoking - he asked her whose fault is it that he had been sent upstairs (when the Felim account was lost). I think he wanted her to acknowledge her part in it but she said it was his fault because he gave up. Eric got to show he was top dog and he restored CPS to its pre Harper days with him and Rishi at the helm.

I thoroughly enjoyed season 2 - I wonder if a season 3 has been announced.

maranella · 01/10/2022 08:12

WARNING - CONTAINS SPOILERS

@Kitkatcatflap yes, spot on about the Felim/Jesse thing. I think Eric does blame her and why wouldn't he? She screwed him over on the Rican deal, choosing to work with Jesse and shaft Felim, who was Eric's only account. As a result, he lost Felim as a client and he lost his job on the desk. Makes total sense that he'd blame her.

Interesting what you say about Harper neither bearing a grudge nor having any loyalty to anyone except her rotten, crack addict brother. You're right.

lugeforlife · 01/10/2022 08:57

What did people think of the Yas storyline? The scene with her dad was brutal when he brought home how much she was a spoilt cow who took all the advantages. She was so facile and urgh and even after all that she was still so manipulative to poor Robert.

I did love the French woman's wardrobe though even if she was a bitch!

maranella · 01/10/2022 09:23

WARNING - CONTAINS SPOILERS

I think Yas got her just desserts at the end. Her dad is a total creep, but I'd always thought she was a spoilt little rich girl and the way she treated Venetia really showed us who she is. Because she was the junior on the desk in S1 she came across as a bit downtrodden, sweet and naive, but in S2 she had some power and boy, did she wield it in a negative way. Her dad telling her that he got her the job at Pierpoint though was really ouch! All this time, she'd been thinking she was making her own way in the world, but daddy was behind the scenes the whole time, pulling the strings.

She still treated Robert like shit at the end though. If there's a S3 I'd like to see Robert get his act together, stop being a doormat and make a success of himself. And I'd love to see Nicole get her comeuppance - she is foul!

NeelyOHara1 · 02/10/2022 19:13

Thanks for the heads up on this drama, as I'd not heard of it. Am 2 eps in on Series 1 now.

goyuwer · 03/10/2022 19:22

Onto Ep5 still so clueless, had to rewind and remind myself who Clemont Cowan was, its a shame they didnt bring him back for this series
