Has anyone started watching this? I’ve just watched the first episode and found it utterly chilling. It’s been a long time since a TV show has impacted me so much; I felt myself physically recoiling. Excellent acting from both the chap playing Dahmer, and his victim, Tracey.

I don’t think it’s normal either, and the fact that he was sexually aroused by chopping them up. :/ felt so sad for the granny too she was so cute and innocent.

i watched an interview with the real guy on you tube, it’s amazing how accurately his character was portrayed.

arghtriffid · 28/09/2022 19:02

I have never wondered, what it would be like to kill someone.

Sorry , but I don’t think it’s normal at all.

Well it’s not actually that uncommon. Lots of studies have shown that people do have these kinds of thoughts, most people just don’t admit to them. It doesn’t mean someone is going to become a killer because they have intrusive violent thoughts.

I remember driving home from work when my terrible boss crossed the road in front of me. I really wanted to run him over. I told my work colleagues who totally understood my feelings. He was such a shit.

EntertainingandFactual · 28/09/2022 20:20

I’ve been watching about 1/2 hr at a time over the last few days. Can’t stomach much more. Haven’t got very far but intrigued and will definitely finish it. Eventually!

Have you seen Horrible Bosses? It's one of my favourite movies

antelopevalley · 28/09/2022 20:23

@NippyWoowoo I haven't, will look out for it.

Granny was the mother of the Waltons. Love her - and she played this part so very well. Heartbreaking.

Oh my goodness, how could I have missed this?! One of my favourite childhood shows and I had no idea it was her!

I think a LOT of people have feelings like this. I know I do. When I was about 15/16 I regularly fantasised about killing my step mother. I realise how horrible that sounds but she was absolutely vile to me and it was somewhat therapeutic to consider it. Of course I’d never do it, not in a million years! I’m the kind of person who picks up snails and moves them so people don’t step on them! But yeah I’ve had some horrible thoughts sometimes. I don’t think it makes me a terrible person.

I actually feel quite sorry for Dahmers dad having read his book that he felt he had to dissect every single bad thought he’d ever had, trying to find answers. Sometimes there just aren’t answers. Even JD said that.

I think that’s very different to just wondering what it would be like to kill someone who’s never done you wrong in any way.

Omw yes! I could not place her, and it was bugging me.

First I couldn't place the step mom to then find out it is Molly Ringwald.

I wouldn’t have known Michael Learned and Molly Ringwald were in this if I hadn’t read it here! I didn’t recognise either of them & I really like both of them!

Imho it's totally normal to have thoughts of what it would be like to actually kill someone. Hence why progs like this are so fascinating!
Psychs ask "do you ever think of things to awful to discuss" to find out if you're a liar or not. The only true answer to that question is "yes".

I’m sure the majority of people have thought awful thoughts at some point.
Fantasising about killing a person and dismembering their body is on a totally different level. It is not normal.

Molly Ringwald?! Wtf? I knew she looked familiar but jeez, she's changed so much!

Late?

Oh gosh I didn't know he had passed away.

I'm not sure why I didn't know that.

I think there may be something wrong with me as I found this pretty boring. I am quite familiar with his history though and the details of the cases. I much preferred appropriate adult and mind hunter. I also didn't much enjoy Des with David Tennant.

Has anyone read exquisite corpse by poppy z brite?

tellmewhentheLangshiplandscoz · 29/09/2022 17:18

Yes, very sad 😞

I agree that Mindhunter blows everything else out the water - even though Monster:Dahmer was excellent - and that Des was forgettable!

mycatisannoying · 29/09/2022 18:31

The stepmother was Molly Ringwald? What the heck?!? I am normally good with faces but have missed the mark completely with this!

I wouldn’t have known Michael Learned and Molly Ringwald were in this if I hadn’t read it here! I didn’t recognise either of them & I really like both of them!

I saw Molly R's name in the end credits and. although only seen briefly (when they are woken by the call in the middle of he night) in Ep 1, deduced that the stepmother would be the part she was playing. So I was looking for her in that role in the next episode, and I do find her to be very recognisable, but the brunette hair made her appear very different - and of course, she is
older than when in the Breakfast Club, and The Stand.
Michael Learned has also aged, naturally - and the part she played is so so different from Olivia Walton. I have seen her in a couple of things as an older lady, but admit that I looked up who was playing the Grannie.

All parts were played so well - I hope there are some awards, even though the subject matter is so grim.

@MermaidEyes

I'd kill for it!
Oops, an unfortunate turn of phrase on this thread Grin

I think his voice sounds like the cartoon version of Garfield!!

At times he reminded me of a depressed Buddy the Elf !! Childlike mind etc...
